We stayed for 5 nights. It has been recently remodeled, so there were good bathroom details and nicely functional cabinetry. The contractor had some things installed backwards, like the hot/cold of the shower. The bathroom fan decided when and how long to run, without logic. (This is room 3). We don't do maid service, but when I brought washcloths to the housekeeper, she couldn't replace them, pointing at the washer. The electric fireplace is a nice touch, and really kicks out heat fast. We declined to try the a/c and heat ceiling unit as the thermostat said to replace filter, and looking at the dust buildup on the vents, we opened the window instead. HMB is usually cool, so the window open was good except for heavy blackout curtains in the way. The front desk clerk was quietly polite. We had 3 breakfasts at Mezzaluna Cafe just across the highway-love that spot!! read more

What an absolutely terrible establishment. Sent me a message saying check in at 3 and then the next message says they cancelled my reservation. They gave away my room an hour before check-in. When I called to get it figured out I was met with nothing but attitude and rudeness. No help, no empathy, just a fuck yo hand have a nice day. What a terrible establishment read more

My Best Friends recommended this hotel about half a mile from their house in El Granada, CA. We got a great rate and it was a really nice place. They had a Very Friendly staff. One block to Highway 1. Nice location near a local Coffee Shop. The fireplace in the wall was a nice touch Beds were very comfortable & Sheets were soft The Room was so clean with a nice layout. In Room Microwave came in handy as well as the In Room Refrigerator. Amenities were on Par. The View out the Window was Beautiful. The waves crashing all night helped us relax. We will definitely be returning to this Hotel to enjoy another stay in the future when we visit my friends. read more

We were looking for a place to stay for one night in HMB and found The Harbor Inn on Expedia. It was the most reasonably priced hotel/motel and had excellent reviews. The Harbor View Inn has a total of 17 rooms. The doors are external facing and no extra services (except for a coffee stand in the check-in lobby). I guess that makes it a motel? A quick observation when booking if you have mobility considerations. They call their second floor the first floor and there is no elevator. The first floor is the ground floor. They were very accommodating in moving us to a ground floor when I booked their first floor. We were delighted with our room. First and foremost, the room was clean. The bed was comfortable and had lighting under the bed for a fun detail. The floor was laminate and there was a large flat screen TV. The window seat was a nice touch. We were on the ground floor but we could still see a glimpse of the ocean (it is just across Highway 1 at Pillar Harbor). The room had a medium sized refrigerator and a coffee maker. Lots of counter/desk space and a comfy side chair. Another nice touch was the faux fire heater in addition to the regular HVAC. The bathroom had a large counter and a walk-in shower with a rain head. The mirror was a lighted mirror. And did I mention free parking? Just a couple items for room for improvement, one easy to fix and one not. There were four pillows on the bed. All were hard. I would have liked a soft option as a back sleeper. We did hear every footstep from the room above us. We didn't hear conversations from the side rooms, but maybe no one was next to us. This will be our new go to for a HMB stay. read more

With an average 2-star rating my husband and I were prepared for the worst. What we got was a beautiful room...newly renovated, large, view of the harbor, nice enough bathroom. I kept waiting for the downside to arrive....and fear not, once darkness descended so did the reason for all of the negative ratings. The walls in this place are paper thin. You will hear every single noise that your neighbor makes...alarm, snoring, phone conversation, TV, pin drop...you'll hear it all. And, if you are lucky enough to be in a room right next to a couple of honeymooners (as we apparently were) you'll be privy to all of their daytime/night time/ all day long sexual exploits. And, if we hear everything the neighbor is doing then they are hearing everything that happens in our room. The front desk staff was very friendly and they have a nice coffee/juice set-up in the lobby if you are just looking for a quick pick-me up at any time of the day. Other than the constant noise from the neighbors, this was a lovely spot for nice trip to the coast. If you prefer a quiet space for sleep, this is not it. read more

We were more or less happy with this place. Typical motel customers in rooms 9 and 11 making noise like it was their first time visiting a civilization. Not the motel's fault. The room was clean and the housekeeper and front desk were friendly. Four stars if only some idiot hadn't scheduled a demolition hour and a half before check-out time. read more

For a motel style entrance from the back the room inside was very comfortable, clean and newly remodeled. It had two queen size beds. We were originally given a room on the first floor with one queen side bed but were upgraded to the second floor with a wonderful view of the harbor, unfortunately the beautiful sunset was blocked by a row of Cypress trees across the street. Some reviews described this place as a rinky dink 18 room motel but we found it more to be an old fashioned boutique hotel. We did not experience any loud snoring or sexual sound effects probably because we were in the room above the driveway and at the far end which was room #18. The plus side is that it is a short walk across the highway to Johnson Pier and restaurants. The hardwood floors , electric fireplace hanging on the wall and bathroom heater made the room cozy, in fact the bed and pillows gave me the best sleep I've ever had and we just came from Thunder Valley Hotel in Roseville. So it's not a five star hotel but the comfort made up for it. Iam bringing my family here in 2026 for the Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival and plan to get this exact room. read more

Disappointed. It is remodeled, decorated fairly nice and clean. However, the room was small, have paper thin walls, strong odor of Pinesol cleaner throughout the entire room during the entire stay, small and old bath towels, lukewarm water in shower, not all electrical outlets work, lacking of vanity lightening, room is kept cool and cannot raise the room temperature, curtains to street window get stuck. I travel frequently and these things were very disappointing and made my getting ready in the morning more difficult than it had to be. read more

This place appears to be newly renovated and has now become my go-to spot whenever I stay in Half Moon Bay. It's incredibly clean and modern, and the customer service was excellent. One of my pet peeves is limited hot water and poor air systems, but this place is top-notch. The bathroom heater blows very warm air, so you won't feel cold when you step out of the shower. Its location is ideal, right across from the harbor and downtown Half Moon Bay, with everything within walking distance. Other beaches are just a short drive away. I highly recommend staying here. read more

Room was clean and remodeled. Unfortunately, they put tile floors in and we could hear all the steps of people upstairs. Thermostat was new but didn't work properly and there was nobody to call to fix it. Probably the most perplexing was the light coming on in the bathroom when you entered. Just what you want at 3 am. After this experience, we have sworn off small motels and will just rent larger hotels/motels with lobbies and staff on duty 24/7. Oh, and no free HBO. That's the way to save money. I note their rates are almost $500 a night during October. Good luck. read more

Very expensive for what they deliver. Small plain rooms, dirty deck outside, no stirrers or creamer with self coffee service and the lobby coffee doesn't open until 7:30...who ever heard. I think Quality Inn would have been a better bet. They at least have reasonable coffee and breakfast service. read more

We were going to stay here and got a hotel room with my friend. We walked inside and the room was occupied. Waited in my father's room to find another hotel, and I'm glad we didn't stay there because we could hear every step, every toilet flush, and word spoken all around us. Staff never apologized for the inconvenience of sending us to a room that was occupied, and proceeded to be rude. Would not recommend. read more

Don't stay here. I wish I had looked at the reviews on Yelp before booking this place through Hotels.com. Hotels.com had better reviews. Walls are thin and you can hear everything in the room next to you. Their phone alarm, talking, having sex, and snoring. I couldn't sleep with the snoring next door. They put ear plugs in the room but I find them uncomfortable and are only a minor help. My husband and I stayed here two nights and it was two nights too many. Room is very small. Light from outside hall shines through your bathroom window so you have to close door completely to get darkness. Refrigerator makes lots of noises. I had to unplug the thing. Someone in their review said it's close to downtown Half Moon Bay and you could walk everywhere. It's not. It's only close to the harbor and some restaurants near the harbor. No beaches. Bed is on the soft side. Not comfortable for us. The pictures are extremely deceiving. The cute little window seat with pillows in the picture is in the lobby which is about 6' x 8' in size. No one is sitting in that window seat. The chairs in the room in front of the window aren't comfortable to sit in either. I really don't have many positives for this place. It is clean and has been updated but that's about it. Wish I had spent more money on a better room. The owners could fix the sound issue by installing acoustic panels over the drywall between each room. It would make a huge difference. read more

Positives: Clean, updated hotel room. Close to beaches and food places. Cons: walls are extremely thin, you can hear every thing that's going on in the next rooms including their TVs, voices, and phone alarms. ALSO the machines and plumbing are loud. It kept me up til 3am. I heard clacking and just annoying noises. Will probably never stay here again due to that. read more

I read the reviews. I read them over and over. I read them broken down by 1 star, 2 stars, 3 stars, 4 stars, then lastly 5 stars (to keep it 100, I am germaphobic and OCD). I looked at the pictures. I determined that the hotel had not been that great in the past, they renovated, the renovation hadn't been that good for folks' stays, but -- over the past year-- since the renovation, that people had enjoyed their stays much better. I certainly did. The renovations are NICE. People complained about the price for what they got. Y'all- living our lives in CA is expensive. Get used to it. Quite frankly, including Airbnbs, this was on the lesser expensive side, and once again -- it is NICE! It is clean. It is simple while still having all of the basic things you need. I appreciate a clean, sleek look with faux-wood, laminate floors and clear surfaces that I know can get cleaned and disinfected easily. The bed is basically comfortable and the temperature in the room is good for both folks who run hot and cold. I appreciate the full length mirror in the hallway right across from a closet where I can lay my suitcase out on a suitcase rack. I can say other positive things about this spot and it's ideal location but let's be real -- this review is way too long and I already said enough for you to skim through why I gave it 5 stars, + 7 pictures. read more

A solid 3 stars. Truthfully my only gripe is the price of this hotel, I get it.. it's Half Moon Bay with a good location near the harbor. IMO, just a little overpriced. However, the room itself was nice. They are small rooms but come with an electric fireplace, microwave, and a fridge. All I truly appreciate. I also really like the restrooms have a heater in the ceiling fan, makes it very cozy. Check in and out was very easy. Staff was friendly. You are walking distance to the beach, bars, and restaurants. Overall a nice hotel, outside can use a little more pampering especially for the price but the rooms itself delivers. read more

Filth...Food...Flies....this is what I found in my room. I asked for housekeeping, was told "NO." The insecticide smell made me sick. Did I want another room? No, all the rooms smelled. I left and they refused to refund me. Even worse, refused to apologize for the sand, hair, insects, stains and overwhelming smell. An absolute health hazard! Come on Harbor View Inn, you can do better than this! read more

Had a reservation for 1 queen bed for the weekend and during check-in the staffs are super friendly and saw I have my kids me and got curious why I got only 1 queen bed and I said that's the only available during my search and we are ready and brought an airbed. They upgraded us for free on there newly renovated 2 queen bed room because someone had cancellation and I was so happy. PRO's: 1. High ceiling with brand new appliances and furnitures. 2. Beds are comfortable. 3. Free parking. 4. Free continental breakfast. 5. Location is close to stores and the HMB pier. 6. Free coffee/tea in the front desk. We're the 1st guest to use the room, so lucky!. CON's: 1. We just weren't able to use the TV some type of issue in regards of the Dish(newly installed). 2. They told us they changed the password for there wifi, but didn't work. 3. Room is not insulated for the noise in the neighbor room(downstairs and side room). They will be remodeling the rooms one at a time to make it a 4star Inn. read more

Came in to rent two rooms. The guy at the desk told me they had a king room and a queen room available so I booked them. It took the guy at the counter a ridiculous amount of time to process the purchase. We got the keys and proceeded to the rooms. When we opened the doors to the rooms they were both occupied already. Yes, I said both rooms. I went back to the office where the guy told me that they only had 1 room now. I told him that I wanted him to double check to make sure it was available. He said that wasn't necessary, he was sure. Knowing I needed to find a second room at another hotel, I walked outside to make some calls. When I came back in, he proceeded to tell me that that room wasn't available after all. I walked back outside to call the other hotel back to see if they had another room. While I was out on the phone, they came out and told me that they did have a room with double beds available after all. I told him that we would take that room. When he handed me the invoice that room was more expensive than the one I originally booked, and I asked if the manager would give me a discount on the room. She came out and told me no that room is already cheap enough and then proceeded to get a huge attitude. When I argued back she said she was kicking us out of the room and to leave. This place has by far the worst customer service of any hotel I've ever been to. I would absolutely avoid this place at all costs. read more

Not an ideal stay... spend a little bit more money to stay elsewhere. We stayed here over the weekend, and while the room itself wasn't terrible, the service is! My dad had a sudden bloody nose from the cold air, and wasn't able to stop it before it hit the sheet. A complete freak incident that could not be prevented. That being said, we were given a charge of over $60 to change the sheet and "clean up" it couldn't have been more than a couple drops, yet this charge shows a complete lack of consideration to their customers. This was our second time staying here, but more importantly our last! read more

One thing I need an a hotel is sleep. Could not get it here. Paper thin walls. Terrible, do not recommend.

What a wonderful experience. My husband and I came to HMB for a wedding and found this lovely inn. They upgraded us for free when we arrived and were very accommodating. The shops, breweries and restaurants are all walkable and there is a small convenience store very near by. There is a breakfast place right next door and the inn has juices and coffee in their lobby. The bed was delightfully comfortable and piled with pillows. Only very small complaint was that an outlet by the bed didn't work but there are many others in the room. We would stay again, it was great! read more

We've stayed all along the coast from San Diego to half moon bay and can't explain our wonderful experience. Thank you Tina when we called you were most helpful. I hope we can return someday !!! read more

Dog friendly with no weight limit, $40 pet fee. The bottom floor was pet friendly rooms. There was some construction going on in the building but it didn't affect me at all. I was told to park on a certain side to avoid construction debris. The room window faced a street. I couldn't tell from the inside that it was a bay window because furniture was set in front of it. There was a fridge and a microwave, a Samsung TV, and a heater feature that was like a wall picture fireplace type of interesting thing on the wall.. I thought the layout of the bathroom was odd but the shower was cool because it wasn't your typical shower head. It had knobs to turn on each section but there was a shower wand in addition to three other spray areas at different elevations. I'm not a connoisseur of toilet brands but I was told the brand they had was high end. I didn't notice. It was just a toilet to me. If it had a seat warmer or was a bidet.. ok.. but I guess some people are experienced enough to sit on a toilet and recognize it's a Toto. When I checked in, I didn't know I would get breakfast. The front desk window lady asked me which juice I'd like, i had to pick a time for it to be delivered and at that time it would be outside my door. Turned out to be juice (orange or apple), pastries(not vegan), and a fresh fruit. I had a great stay. The location is next door to a Cafe and walking distance to Pillar Point Harbor where crabs are all the rage. (I didn't know Half Moon Bay was a crab place.) You can also walk to shops and restaurants.. and of course, a beach. Check in: 3pm Check out: 11am, 12pm late check out read more

We love this hotel! It's conveniently located to everything, great walking distance to the beach, lovely breakfast place next door, and the coffee in the lobby is so good. We've stayed here multiple times over the last 7 years. They've upgraded so much. We will definitely be coming back. read more

Went here for your anniversary and it was clean, modern, and accommodating. Not bad for one night only $200 for the stay. Also free and lots of parking! Nice view of the harbor too. Only downside was the walls were thin and you can hear everything but that's fine. It was super cute of them to put petals as I added a note too! Definitely recommend if you're coming to half moon bay for a night or two! read more

Found this little gem on hotels.com and we couldn't be happier. Great location and close to restaurants and shopping. Room was very nice, very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was your usual to go bag with yogurt, orange juice, pastry and an apple. They do have an expresso machine in the lobby, which was a plus. There's also a breakfast spot next door that we didn't get to try. 5 stars for the lady at the front desk was sweet, friendly and very helpful. I think her name was Tina I can't recall. Stayed here for 2 days and absolutely loved it. Not sure why it has 2 and a half stars. Only complaint I have are the thin walls. I'm a very light sleeper and we were on the first floor so I could hear the people above us the whole time.. Other than that we enjoyed our stay. We'll definitely be back. Stayed here on the 12th and 13th. :) read more

This sweet little place is across the highway from Princeton Harbor; it is also located right next to some of the best coffee I've ever had at The Press , and it was quite comfortable and very reasonably priced! We used it as our homebase for exploring/sharing Santa Cruz to Pacifica! We took the stairs to our deluxe double queen room, no elevator; that had just been recently renovated. Spotless everywhere. Microwave, safe, coffee, service, refrigerator in the room along with an electric fireplace! It was delightful. Two firm mattress queens and a connected ottoman chair combination , which I just adored because it kept my feet up. I also enjoyed sitting in the chair with my feet on the bay window ledge. It was great to watch the boats in the harbor, and to have such easy access all the different things to explore up close literally across the road- and to go up and down Cabrillo Highway for our adventures. Harbor View Inn's prices were competitive, and the whole process was really easy. We were there from a Sunday night and checked out on a Thursday morning. It could not have been more pleasant! read more

Do not stay at this place if you require electricity or counter space, especially in the bathroom. Upon arrival we were told it was an "upgraded" room (room #1). It's in a good location which is why it's even given 1 star even though Yelp won't let you give 0 stars. It's close to the harbor and lots of restaurants but the rooms are terrible. I guess they remodeled (I shudder to think what this hotel was like before) but they forgot to put back counter space in the bathroom. There's not even a shelf to but your soaps in the shower! The whole bathroom setup is like prison style where it's one huge floor drain. No separation between the shower and rest of the floor which flooded everything. There are no counters or shelves otherwise in the bathroom. Ladies, don't bring any toiletries, I guess you'll just have to put them on the flooded floor. The room itself was clean enough but that's because it's very minimalist. Oh yeah, and don't bother bringing your phones because you can't use any of the VERY few outlets they have in the room. You can't even unplug the used outlets otherwise because they're out of reach or you unplug the refrigerator, so don't bother bringing water or anything you want to keep cold if you do want to charge anything. We asked the front desk if it could be a breaker issue but after restarting it twice they just shrugged and said there was nothing they could do. We ended up having to use an extension cord and unplugging the refrigerator to be able to charge our phones. When reaching out to the manager about this issue they said they would leave a note and have yet to receive response. read more

Overall had a great stay. We stayed in a second floor room with a king bed, electric fireplace, heated fan in the bathroom etc. All rooms have been updated and include bay windows looking over the harbor. We had clear weather the weekend we stayed and could see clear out to the harbor with nice ocean views. You are looking beyond Highway 1 but traffic on a normal weekend isn't bad and the views are well worth it. Windows are new and seal well from any road noise and weather. My only lament is noise can travel through the walls. Someone was checking their voicemails one night via speakerphone and I heard pretty much everything word for word. The Inn might want to consider basic soundproofing in the future. Another selling point is the press restaurant next door. Breakfast burritos, pastries, coffee and grilled cheese. Food was great. read more
