First time coming into harbor freight in Santa Maria and I didn't know what to expect. The outer building in the shopping center is cute and reminds me of buildings you might find in Solvang California Upon entering Harbor freight, we were greeted by two of the workers into the store and asked if we needed any help. We Peru's the store, and I have to say everything was fully in stock, well organized, and the store was very clean. They offer so much. I would say Harbor freight is like the Aldie of hardware stores. They offer some major brand names but the majority of the store has less known brands. We picked up a few random supplies and everything we bought, we have used and it works extremely well. The prices are definitely extremely reasonable especially for the good quality. Check out was very easy. They had a few registers open and got people in and out of line to purchase quickly. We will definitely be back. read more

Will never return. I've shopped here for years but after today's experience and the employee attitudes, I won't shop here in the future. Went in for an engine stand, sort of an emergency need as an engine needed to be unloaded from a pick up bed. There was a stand on the floor and plenty in the back but the employee didn't want to do the work to get one down. I asked if I could take the floor model and was flatly told no. I explained the need and was told to come back tomorrow and they might be able to get one down from the back. It was obvious they didn't want to work, didn't care about actually making a sale and treated me like I was an absolute inconvenience. read more

I've purchased and used a great many tools and supplies from the Santa Maria Harbor Freight since the 1980's and during these number of decades I have been greatly satisfied with the items I purchased and the employees. Harbor freight has always been "my go to place for tools"! There tools, floor jacks and compressors have served me well for over a decade. I recently got a big TV, no not from H.F. Got a deal on a TV at Costco. When I priced the mounting bracket for it, it was 1/2the price of the TV! No way was I dropping that on a bracket. Remembered seeing a mounting bracket at H.F. Bought the TV mounting hardware & bracket from H.F. & saved $50! read more

The store manager, a middle aged blonde lady, is extremely rude. Her job is customer service before any thing else. I wouldn't come back just because of her attitude. Keeping composure during a job as a manager especially is huge. read more

I usually don't post reviews. I figure most people can deduce from word-of-mouth whether or not a store is someplace they'd like to do business. Plus, most reviews tend to show bias one way or another. However, I feel it's important to leave this review for people who are planning to purchase an expensive item from Harbor Freight. Most of the time, hand tools, tiedown straps, oil pans, etc. are probably going to be fine from Harbor freight. But I just had the most horrible experience with one of their pressure washers. Over the period of about a year I received several gift cards from various people for Father's Day, birthday, Christmas, etc. I had about $350 in gift cards and I had always wanted to purchase a pressure washer. I looked online and found Harbor freight had a $370 3100 PSI 6.5HP pressure washer. Because I have the gift cards I decided to buy it. I honestly think I would have gone to Costco or noble equipment in SLO had it not been for the gift cards. But, since I wasn't coming out of pocket for any more than just a couple bucks I figured I would go with the pressure washer from Harbor freight. I purchased it in early February this year 2019. I brought it home, put it together, put in the fluids and it fired right up. I only put enough gasoline in it to run for about half an hour and then ran it dry. I stored it in my storage container and let it sit. Took it out yesterday (8(7/19) to do some work and it would not start. I went through all of the troubleshooting that I could think of yet it would not start. I am fairly mechanically inclined so I took a few things apart and confirmed that gasoline was getting to the carburetor, that there was a spark from the spark plug, etc. Still, no start. It didn't even want to turn over the slightest bit. I called Harbor freight and asked about how to repair. They asked if I purchased the extended warranty. I had not. Harbor freight told me there's only a 90 day return policy after that you're on your own. I will admit that I did not purchase the extended warranty so I do not blame Harbor freight for not returning it. However, Harbor freight told me that they do not repair their own equipment nor do they have a manufacturer contact in order to have them repair it. Harbor freight told me their items are bought from overseas and it is less expensive for them to simply give you a new one as opposed to repairing one... If you're within the warranty of course. I went to a local repair shop for them to help me diagnose the problem and I was told they would not work on Harbor freight equipment because it's cheap equipment and they are not able to get parts. Called back Harbor freight and ask them how a customer can spend nearly $400 on a piece of equipment in less than six months ago, use it once, and not have any recourse when that piece of equipment doesn't function. It's not like I ran it to the ground over and over again and parts wore out. It's not as though I left it outside and it rotted from the inside out because of the weather. It's not because I did anything on my own at this machine doesn't work. Harbor freight simply told me that I was out of luck. I truly feel like I was ripped off. It's pretty safe to say that I will NEVER purchase anything from Harbor freight again. I advise anybody reading this to think carefully and then think twice about purchasing anything other than cheap hand tools from Harbor freight. And if you do, you better get the extended warranty because things are bound to break and they will not back up their own equipment. read more

What is there not to like about Harbor Freight Tools. My husband regularly shops at this branch to pick up gloves and various hand tools, and few bigger ticket and obscure items like a work bench, aluminum low profile lift, jack stands, blind pullers, solder suckers, a mitre saw, torx bits, etc. Basically, if this place did not exist, my husband would never finish his projects! PROS: This store (and any other Harbor Freight store) will have the tools to get the job done at a very reasonable price. Most sales support are knowledgeable and will help you cart out the heavier items. Coupons are in abundance (I use them 99% of the time). CONS: Some tools noticeably aren't as durable and fare poorly long term. You really need to weigh the need of the tool, the savings, the complexity. read more

I've bought tools from Harbor Tool & Freight since the early 1980. They have always sold low end tools, but previously had a no questions asked exchange policy. Turns out that's changed, you must now have a receipt if you want to exchange damaged or defective items. Here's what happened: I bought some smaller plastic containers, the kind used to hold nuts and bolts, for about $4 each, I bought three of them. I went in and asked to exchange them because they were so cheap the clip used to hold them closed broke off, but the manager refused because I had no receipt. I went back in with a receipt for one, and the sales clerk used my account to pull up the purchase date for the second one, within 90 days, but refused to refund the second one because I had no receipt. This is even though he could see I bought it under my account! Ridiculous store policy. I will take my tool business elsewhere. read more

Good selection of cheap, no-name brand tools. I wouldn't rely on these items for everyday use, but if you're looking for tools with a limited life then this is the right place. They sell everything from hand-tools to mills & lathes. read more

Great prices but that's to be expected. As far as this location is to be concerned I won't give it more stars then deserved. I want to give it 2 but that's low for a review. I called at 8:25pm on April 10, 2017 to ask if they had a Flux welder available for pickup in the morning and was told they where closing and he could not check for me. I am not sure how or where this employees was raised or learned his coustomer service but I'm pretty sure when it comes to sales you always figure it out. That's a little disturbing. As far as the store is concerned it's smaller then most but has some good inventory. read more
