This place is full of things you didnt know that you need. Ive bought surgical gloves, carabeaners, tow hitches and a small saw here. Everything Ive bought from Harbor Freight ive really enjoyed. The bad: If you need help, forget it. I've waited in line for 15 minutes as one person bought one item in front of me. The store is great but it seems to be under staffed. The people who do work here dont seem the brightest bulbs in the box. My advice to avoid problems is to read the product reviews before you buy something. LONG TIME CUSTOMER GONE. I will NEVER buy from HARBOR FREIGHT again after being treated like crap and told they don't care. THEY DO NOT WARRANTY BRAND NEW GEAR THAT DOES NOT WORK 10yr+ loyal customer of Harbor Freight across multiple states where I have property rentals. I purchased Harbor Freights most expensive top of line brand new 18" gas powered Portland chainsaw to cut down 2 x 30ft trees on a property. This was a big project, involving hiring of boom lift, and tons of costs to make the day go smoothly. I used an electric craftmans 12 inch chainsaw to cut branches upwards and then going to use Harbor Freight for the stump on way down. Craftsman got me up no problems and Portland BRAND NEW saw would not even start! I've used many chainsaws before and I followed the Portland instructions to the tee, actually using dedicated 50:1 chainsaw fuel (92 octane and no ethanol) in order to get the perfect first start. The so called easy start did not start at all. All attempts to start it failed and the entire day was ruined. This was clearly a manufacturer issue. Returned it to Harbor Freight Sandy Utah store and got screwed for a $37 restock fee!?? wtf! They said I could have bought a $70 protection plan to save me the $37 fee, go figure out that one! SCAM Contacted corp office and Snr Associate customer service, Maeghon, stuck policy in my face. Lets review the BS policy: 1. Harbor freight corp office decided in their internal meetings that they would like to pass on the cost of faulty, dead on arrival products, to the customer, to increase their margins rather than make sure the customer gets the product they need for the job. Why is it the customer's fault? The manufacturer needs to pay 100% of this. Why exchange for another crap Portland when their quality control is this bad, risking me paying $1k of dollars for it to only fail again? 2. I did actually look at exchanging it for a different brand and the other products were all worse or smaller size that would not do the job. Why is it my fault that Harbor Freight merch assortment team has NO VIABLE OPTIONS to chainsaw a 19" trunk tree! 3. how does Harbor Freight you equate buying a $70 protection plan to save me from paying $37 fee???!!! Why does that make sense??!! 4. This Harbor Freight caused issue cost me $1k as I need to reschedule and rehire all my tree cutting equipment and personnel. Another lost customer! Never Portland. Never Harbor Freight. I can buy the same products on Temu for half Harbor Freight costs, let alone Walmart or Vevor! read more

Only worth buying tools here if its an emergency. If you ever have to warranty something that happens to have a lifetime warranty (which is basically nothing) you'll be waiting in line for a half hour for them to argue with you about returning it anyway. read more

The Salt Lake store is by far the worst I've been to. Always a long line with only one employee checking customers while other employees seem to wonder around like zombies. Forget purchasing anything that requires an employee to pull from backstock unless you have 30-45 minutes of spare time on your hands to wait. I have had excellent service at both the Sandy and West Jordan locations, I'm not sure why this location can't seem to get it together. read more

They don't sell the Cadillac tools, this is the place you go when you need a tool for a specific job that will only get used a few times and you don't want to spend hundreds of dollars. ​Harbor freight tools. Oops that's Harbor Junk Tools to be honest. This company does not take care of there customers. I had bought an air compressor with the extended warranty. A year later the air compressor needs to be taken back for an exchange. Because Harbor Junk Tools no longer has the air compreser available I have to pay OVER $200.00 for another air compressor more then what I had paid for the extended warranty. This is about the 2nd or 3rd time this has happened with Harbor Junk tools. Harbor junk tools wants you to buy the extended warranty knowing that they only keep their products for a short time, so the customers will ALWAYS need to pay more out of pocket when exchanging a product with the extended warranty. It's about what they can get from customers instead of treating the customer right. Save money and time by shopping at Home Depot or Lowe's. I will NEVER purchase anything again from Harbor Junk Tools because that the quantity you will get. That's why they are only a 1 1/2 star company. read more

The wait to check out was really really long, but the employees were friendly and the store had just what I needed at reasonable prices. I needed a cart/"hand truck" for moving, and I'm happy with it. The floor models were stacked and strapped together so you couldn't try them out, which is something that would've been nice, but it worked out just fine. read more

First, I like the store. I buy items here often, especially with the 25% coupon. However, I had an "interesting" interaction with the manager and it put a bad taste in my mouth. I went to the store for the Accu-Link Adjustable V Belt and requested it by the exact name that was on the package. The gray-haired manager said, "What's a V-belt" repeatedly, constantly interrupting my explanation. Until I finally said, "you don't know what a V-belt is?" To which he responded again, "What's a V belt?" and "We don't carry them." After muttering what I thought about this guy, I'll be honest, it wasn't nice, I drove across the valley with a cranky 22 month old and picked one up, I needed two, but they only had one in stock. The Redwood store was super nice and it was pleasant to know that a cashier knew exactly where to find the belt. Now, fast forward to today. I'm still peeved that this jack-wad was so rude and I still needed an additional belt. These belts are AWESOME by the way. I recommend them. Anyway, I call the store and ask if they have them in stock, I give her the name (same description as previous) and the item number (#43771) and the girl says, "Oh, you're looking for a V-belt. We have 4 on the shelf. Isle 4, automotive." WTF? How does a manager not know this? We had our stupid conversation not 8 feet away from where these belts are said to be! This fool should be demoted to cleaning dumpsters and re-watching customer service videos. This is the first negative thing I've had to say about the store and its employees. I actually think they're friendly and helpful - always pleasant and happy. Surprisingly, it's the manager that is the poor representative of the store. I come to Harbor Freight when I need a tool but I don't want to pay for a big name brand. Everything here is pretty inexpensive and you should be able to find pretty much anything you need as far as tools go. On my most recent visit I came looking for some L brackets and learned they pretty much stick to tools and don't carry any parts. So if you're looking for nuts and bolts, go elsewhere. Some prices are hard enough to pass up that you will probably grab a few additional items before you check out. This isn't Home Depot though so don't expect to get any home improvement advice from the staff. There just there to put the money in the register and get you on your way. read more

I called Costumer Service to buy a part for my central pneumatic air compressor. The woman I talked to was not helpful at all, in fact she was super rude . She literally told me that "no one is stopping you from buying in a different place", just because I questioned the fact that they sell the item, but don't sell the parts. I guess that's what I get for buying Chinese products and buying in the worst possible store ever. I'm tossing that piece of crap in the garbage today along with whichever tool I have ever bought in that place, and I will never ever buy anything from Harbor freight in my life. I went in looking for a particular size screw. Samantha says "I don't really know about screw sizes." I ask for a manager. Khae, the manager, shrugs and says "I don't know man, just use your best judgment I guess." How do you manage a hardware store if you can't even help someone find the right screw size? I have been here three times now. I'm not very tool-savvy, so keep that in mind when I say I think the employee that helped me was very knowledgable and helpful! He was patient with me and took the time to get me what I needed. We came in for a generator and he helped us get the right one, plus explained some things about it. The register girl was a little scary - not an inch of unpierced or untatooed skin on her. But she got me an extended warranty and ten bucks off the generator I didn't think I'd be getting. We also bought a power hose there and it's awesome. Pretty inexpensive and good quality, with a two year warranty. ALSO - most important - this place is totally one of those "I didn't realize I needed that!" stores. I found lots of extras to throw in that I'm excited about! read more

I wrote a negative review about this store a couple of years ago. In the past year or so, things there have improved noticeably and they deserve credit. They have more cashiers working, they are nicer and things seem to go much more smoothly. I would say that they are now up to par with the other HFT stores I have visited. read more

As far as a place where you can get a bunch of tools for either very limited or one-time use, this place is a good spot to hit, but realistically, if you're getting an entire 40 piece ratchet set for 5 or 6 bucks, expecting it to perform like anything but a set you're getting for that dollar amount is not reasonable. A good ratchet handle, for instance, will run you anywhere upwards of 7 or 8 times that...without the sockets. Obviously, this is mainly imported stuff of dubious quality, but if you're not planning on using it repeatedly or at least vary sparingly and don't want to spend the money for high quality stuff, this is probably fine. They have all sorts of things that could be useful, variety is actually quite good, aside from not having a drink cooler (WTF?), but truth be told, I wouldn't look to them for anything that would be needed to protect your life, such as jack stands, etc. Simple stuff like knives, screwdrivers, hammers, gloves for a job, etc. is more where these guys are helpful... read more
