The store is well maintained and cashier is always nice. However, as a contractor, it's essential that whomever is actually there to assist the customers have knowledge of the products and usages. Not sure if that's a difficulty as it relates to finding quality employees. If I was a regional manager, I would insist that the employees have an active presence of knowledge as it relates to the products you sell. Very discouraging to the customer base. I go here every now and again with my husband when he needs some small things. Whenever we go, we usually don't see an employee on the floor. But we are usually in and out if they do have what my husband needs. And it's good if you're just looking for something small and you don't wanna run into Home Depot. The value is OK as well. Katrina is an excellent manager at Harbor Freight in Massapequa NY near Sunrise Mall off a side street called Carmans. I had to return a gift and I needed assistance. It seems Katrina does what she does because this is just, who she is. She was understanding and took the time to go above and beyond efforts to assist me. I believe she has the potential for even more. The crew there all did their best to be friendly and helpful. Staff as Paul, John, Trish, and Ellen seem like a solid crew. While there, I did find and buy at very reasonably priced other items. In short I was glad I went there and was able to get the help I needed. read more

The manager there, I believe his name is John was rude and unprofessional. I went to do a return on gifts I received with no receipt and it felt like an interrogation. He kept on asking for the purchasers phone number and receipt. Said we can track these things through corporate. Items were probably less than 15 dollars in total. I explained that it was a gift and didn't have a receipt. I would like to get store credit towards a purchase I was making. He refused and used the store policy excuse. I think for folks who are in the know about tools, this would be a preferred store to grab an item quickly. There is a larger selection of tools without the local Ace prices. Unfortunately they were short staffed when I went (workers on the floor were either coming from or going to the back for other issues). The only reason I went was because they sell the Predator generators which is a great brand if you can catch them on sale when they are in stock. Kevin a cashier was great and was able to answer the questions I had regarding service plans, return policy, and what contents were included with the generator. If I had to describe it, Harbor Freight is like the "Island of Misfit Tools." They have all of the tools that with they could be in one of the big box home improvement stores. Don't get me wrong, it's a great store to find some excellent deals on certain items. their rolling tool chests are very good quality, as are some of their limited availability offerings. I would not, however buy my average tools here. I have had screwdrivers from here snap in half or break off at the handle in the past. Along with their offering of various tools, they also carry many schlocky items as well. Tons of China imports, including flashlights, small tools, tarps, and lots of dollar-store quality items. They always have coupons in the newspaper that offer these low cost items for free with a purchase. What I do buy here are my "throwaway" tools which are the tools I lend out to friends and neighbors that I don't usually expect to get back. Tools that would only be good for a few uses before becoming stripped or damaged in some way. On this particular trip, another customer was returning a car jack that failed in mid-use. Danger Will Robinson!!! So I would definitely recommend being picky about what tools / items you really want to skimp on. This customer could have easily lost a hand or worse had he been under the car at the moment it failed. All in all though, there are good deals to be had here. Definitely check it out for tools that you may need for only one or two home improvement jobs. The best purchase I've made there to date is the rolling tool chest. I love coming to this place, I suppose that is weird for a woman, but I use gloves for cleaning & cooking (the blue ones) so $5.99 (you need a coupon) for 100 is great. I'm also into crafts and they have a lot of the tools I use discounted compared to the other stores I go to (I won't call any names) crafters know who I'm talking about. Cashier Tricia was very rude, impatient today , September 28th, 2019. It seemed as though she deliberately wanted to spoilt my day, and mentioned how difficult it is to deal with customers, even though I helped her with the coupon number,as she said she couldn't read the number, then promptly told me to get back in the line since I was cashing my purchases separately from my wife, even though both receipts would going to be sent to my email address. This is great place to go and get affordable tools. Not always the best quality but good enough. You can find just about anything you need here. Got a few great screw driver, wrench, socket kits. Nice amount of welding equipment as well. Large tool boxes, small organizer boxes too. Recently got an air cut off wheel saw that works good and was great price. Not only big tools here, they have smaller items as well great for working on my son's T MAXX . Got him a great organizer for his parts here as well. my parents purchased a 10'x12' greenhouse a couple months ago and we began constructing it now that the weather is getting colder. We're about halfway through and realize we were given two of a single part instead of it and it's mirrored part(one for the left and right.) I was told I could come in and get it situated and the employee that helped me really went out of his way going through a mound of boxes to help me pull the right part. I have worked in a few car dealership's as professional mechanic and normally buy Craftsman, Mac and Snap-on tools. Some tools are very pricey and not used often. So if you run into jobs that certain power or hand tools are going to be used once in a while and can't see spending big bucks for the name brands, then harbor freight tools is the place for you. Decent tools and great prices. Most are made in China so don't expect long life from their power tools, but they get the job done. Service at the Massapequa NY store was excellent.
