STAY AWAY! I thought I had found a nice alternative to HomeDepot, but I was wrong. My first and only purchase there was a small air compressor on Aug 12th, 2023, but it was not powerful enough so I could not use it. I returned it on the 18th. The cashier was friendly enough and asked if I wanted to exchange it. I said not today, I need to purchase a larger one along with some other tools another day. Besides, I said the line to check out was too long and I was in a hurry so I would be back. She said that was fine, and started the refund process. The cashier then had to call the manager for a code to complete the refund. The manager (some young lady ) ran over, and rudely said to me.. "Since you are not exchanging, I am charging you a restock fee", and then she abruptly ran off. Even the cashier was stunned by her action. I said to the cashier, you are charging me a restock fee? She said, we don't if you exchange it, but if it is a return then we do. I was only told when I purchased the compressor that I had 90 days to return it. Nothing about a restock fee. The compressor was still new in the box, why a restock fee?? I was in a hurry so I said fine, but that is totally wrong! $10.00 restock fee on a $53.00 compressor? HomeDepot does not treat their customers like that, nor does Lowes. EASY Returns! Harbor Freight needs to treat their customers with better respect and be more like their competitors. And until they do and understand what they are doing is completely wrong and not good customer service, I will not be going back there. Just Terrible! read more

So I've never bought something before at a box store and been charged a "restocking fee". Nice how it's on the receipt and says "some items MAY BE," subject to a fee. So my question is what determines, what "may be" is? I brought back a pump that was never used and still with all the original packaging and was charged $3 = 20%. WTF??? This isn't eBay or Amazon. You didn't pack and ship this item. I walked into your store and purchased it and walked back in and returned it. I get it. So people use items and return them. I worked at Home Depot, I know the drill but a brand new item. Restocking fee? I could've walked the 50ft from the register to the shelf I got it from. Best part was cashier couldn't explain to me why I was being charged the fee. If items "may be subject" and you the cashier seem to be the person determining what is and/or is not subject to that fee: shouldn't you be able to explain what, in your determination, made my return "subject" to your fee? Sad part is they have some decent items in store but you can bet I will go out of my way to avoid that place. I've seen Home Depot return way higher ticketed items, that were obviously used, without subjecting their customers to a service charge. Harbor Freight, it's been a long time since I've stepped foot in your store and I likely won't bother returning anytime soon. It doesn't appear I will go out of my way to find one again. Great store, can't believe this place is selling products at wholesale prices. The location is in the heart of Lemon Grove and has parking and a variety of tools, workbenches and just about anything a handyman could desire. Highly highly recommend. read more

I went into this store yesterday about 4:20 pm and I had the worst experience ever. The heavy set Hispanic young girl. First didn't acknowledge me. I wait in line for about 3 min then another Hispanic man walked up and was took care of with no problem. I pointed out the fact I had been standing in line for about 3 min before that guy walked up. I asked " is there even a line because I've been standing in what I thought was the line." She said " oh I didn't see you but let me take care of him first." WTF???? I dropped my stuff and just left. If I could give a -5 star review I would. I've been looking to buy a power washer. All year long harbor freight advertise a power washer for $76. Got a 25% off coupon on any item coupon via email. Thought that was a great idea of theirs to do something special for their customer. Went down to buy it assuming it would now only cost $55. But to my surprise they raise the price of the power washer by 25%. It was a total scam and a play on words to make it look like you're getting a great deal when there was no deal at all I will never go back to Harbor freight and I will tell everyone I know about my experience and encourage them to go to Home Depot or Lowe's. Worst customer service ever! I went in to try and purchase some Car Dollies, walked around and found where they should be @ but they weren't there. I walked around looking for a employee so i could ask them to see if they had any more in the back. I didn't find anyone. Didn't want to go to cash registers bc i didn't want to hold up the lines. But I had to, the cash register girl was nice and helpful. Turned out they had 10 in the back. Perfect, so they were suppose to bring them out to the front. The cash register girl suggested I'd keep shopping, took her advice and walked around even though all i had to get were the Car dollies. 10 minutes passed by and went back to the front and asked if they had brought them up. The cash register told me it was taking them longer to get to them since they were helping other customers because he was getting stopped on the way to back. Which made no sense to me since I asked first, didn't make a big deal out of it. I waited another 10 minutes and nothing still, I had waited too long already. So I ended up being there for 20 mins for nothing. Left empty handed. If you do go shop here and the item your looking for isn't in the shelves. Good luck to you! read more

Today I went to Harbor Freight in Lemon Grove. There was a huge line outside it was about 85 degrees. My mother is 83 years old and we waited outside for about 20 minutes before entering. My 83 year old mother asked if she could go in the guy who was at the door told her she would have to wait. She told him she was handicapped he said they don't accommodate the handicapped. Mom asked to speak to the manager and he said he was the manager. I found out his name is Jerry. So if you are handicapped and its super hot outside don't expect to get any privileges even if your 83 at least not at this business. read more

I needed a very tiny rubber o-ring for my... breast pump. I went to the big guys down the street and they did not have what I needed in store (surprisingly! That place is so big...) but said I could order it online. Well I needed it yesterday and I don't give up easily, so I called Harbor Freight. Spoke with Steve, who was so patient with me. Waited in line, as the one cashier was helping with a return. Other store employees were around the checkout area. Called in and spoke with "Arturo" for availability of two items. He was very efficient. Drove down there, easy in and out and plenty of parking. Store was very clean and organized. Arturo helped me get my two heavy items and was very knowledgeable of inventory location. I am a retired GM "award winning" Parts Manager for Cadillac. Con: Their customer service can be hit and miss but I don't mind as long as I'm getting what I need. I've been to the Mira Mesa, El Cajon, Chula Vista and now this Lemon Grove location which is closest to me and there is always a mix of rude and friendly workers. Inside Trader Club leaves much to be desired. All the tools I've needed have been bought through the regular ad or coupon prices. None of the ITC deals are very desirable to me for my needs (mainly automotive). Pros: Definitely sign up for their E-Mail fliers! They have great deals and also check your mail! They have deals in the Union Tribune and individual fliers that may not be in the E-Mail (this is where you'll usually find the 20% coupons and occasionally 25% coupons). They have some pretty lame tools but they also have great tools at incredible prices. You really need to look at the reviews on the site before purchasing. I have a bunch of Snap-On tools and still buy things off the truck but nothing beats a great bargain. Some of the things I've bought and love are: 2 ton engine hoist 1/2 ton engine stand 2 ton load leveler 1 ton engine support bar The new lineup of extra long, flex head ratchets (awesome for the price and they take a beating!) Ok I have to admit I have very mixed feelings. Had you asked me a week ago I would say stay far away you'll be better off going to the one in El Cajon but today I would say to give them a chance. . Over all Harbor Freight's product are inexpensive but I am not to sure on how well they are built. I think if you need something for a quick small job around the house, than yes, these tools would work but with my experience if the tool is going to be needed long term I will rather head to Homedepot (which is 1 block away) Majority of Harbor Freight's tools appear and feel cheap and flimsy but yet aat the same time they guarantee their power tools. So buyer beware and don't forget to take a coupon of 20% off. As for this store specific- The Lemon Grove store needs a lot of help. I have had several bad experiences with the staff at this location. I finally had it with the rudeness, lack of knowledge, and incredibly unhelpful staff. (which is how I would describe majority of the employees when I have gone in) so I had asked for their manager and out cam Kevin. You would think being a manager he would want to be helpful but I actually got the complete opposite. He came across as arrogant and was very unprofessional. I walked away from Harbor Freight so disgusted with this place, The last several times I went here the employees appear to hate their jobs- no one smiles and says "hello", they are rude when you ask for help, The next day I found myself still thinking about my visit and decided to call the district manager to where I found out that Kevin was actually Only the Assistant manager. I got a completely different vibe and feeling about the store and how they treat their customers. The real store manager, Jamie, had called me a few days after my initial call to corporate. I expressed my concerns about not only his employees but also my experience with Kevin. Jamie was very appologic, understanding, and incredibly helpful. I needed a store credit so Jamie told me what days he was working as I agree to swing by sometime during the week. This is where my whole view of Harbor Frieght had really changed. Had it not been for Jamie sounding so sincere when he called me I would of never gone back into the store. Which I am glad I did.... I went in today, Jamie was with a customer so I waited and was observing the staff. It was night and Day in the staff that they had working today. The staff were actually very helpful to the clients, it was a completely different dynamic in the staff how they worked with not only the customers but also their interaction with each other. It was how you would expect customer service to be. I don't know why such a change in the staff? Did Jamie have a sit down with the staff? (which I kind of doubt) or was it that Kevin wasn't there? The times I have went I never had seen Jamie there which leads me to believe that "The Assistant Manger, Kevin" was the poison. I will be curious the next time I go into the store to see what the atmosphere is like and to than noticed who is in charge. Your only as strong as your weakest link and if the one person is giving out negativity it only a matter of time before it starts effecting the rest of the staff.
