When I walked into the store there a line of customers waiting at the register and thought I was gonna be here awhile after I get what I want. So I proceeded to look for my items. While shopping, I went by the aisle that people usually line up and there was no one waiting. Cashier's here knocked out the crowd real fast. The store over all is clean; aisles do not have products blocking your path; signs above in English and Spanish. So when it was time to get online to purchase my items. There were 5 people ahead of me. Cashier's blew through the line. I was so impressed that gave the cashier a good report of my experience. She was very thankful and most of time it's a complaint about the long lines. I told her that the way the store is structured and the amount of good products the have. It wouldn't make sense to lose a row of products to make a customer line. They are quick and attend the customers effectively. So people, do you want to lose a row of products? I don't. read more

Store and employees are cool but at times, the tool sizes aren't exact measurements and their electric tools don't last as long as the big name brands. Every electric tools I bought there lasted at least for one use and other times, at most, 3 months. read more

I have loved this place for tools and small items. I decided to buy a Portland 1750 Power Washer. I used it two to three times and put it away for winter in the garage. This summer I tried to use it and it won't work. I wrote "customer service" and got a big run-around. "Well how did you treat it?" "How did you store it?" Finally they said a regional manager would call me for a trade with a new one. No call. It's been a month, I have written and received written responses from multiple first-name-only people assuring me someone will contact me. Now I got an email from them saying "no the regional manager won't be calling, the store will". Of course still no call. This is terrible customer service. I never return a think but this was a rather big purchase for me and it should work. I am very disappointed in their lack of customer service. read more

Got a love all these cheap tools me and my husband come here all the time to pick up tools we use occasionally. We do try to stay away from electronics stuff as that tends to fail more often than other products read more

Harbor Freight Tools - Hardware Stores Near Me - Chula Vista, California

Going to give this location 5 stars although to be honest have not been to any other stores in this chain. i rarely think to go there but they send ads out in the mail sometimes with coupons for freebies (with a purchase). Went there a week ago on a Saturday and the line wasn't bad but i spent so much time browsing & looking for the freebie (25 ft measuring tape) that by the time i realized it the line was almost to the back wall. So today (another Saturday) went back earlier and asked a cashier where the freebie was located, right away "isle 7". Found it as well as a great price on a round 65 lb. magnet ($4.99) these can be extremely pricey if you search online. Going to use it for fast erasing of old VHS tapes before i take the plastic cases off for recycle then throw the tape in the dumpster. Have seen this done on Y.T. videos, tried it with a smaller magnet, it worked some but not good enough. So will report back if i remember to if anyone is interested in this process. (magnet was on isle 8 btw, lol ) the only thing that can be a problem there is locating stuff as they don't seem to have a floor person to bug for assistance and often the cashiers are too busy to just barge in and interrupt the line flow. So, if in a hurry, just ask quickly between customers as i did today. Corinna was nice and friendly and signed me up for the membership, that took only about 1 minute. Location is just East of the trolley tracks on L st. South side. read more

They had an animal trap that I needed and was very hard to find elsewhere. I was happy to locate it and at a reasonable price as well. So I went and got it. When I got it home it was supposed to be in one piece and just assemble itself by pulling on the handle. Unfortunately it was in five pieces. Then I looked at the box, and it had been taped several times. It was obviously a return that was never even looked at just turned right around and sold it to me. Well because of that I had to make another round trip to the store which was about 15 miles away, which cost me time and energy and made me not a happy camper. I asked them to get me one from the back that had been factory sealed. That one was good and it worked fine. read more

OOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMGGGGGGGGGGG!!!! I just walked into this place and bought a fricken MACHETE!!!!! I am like the scariest bitch in City Heights now...plus it will come in handy with my new weed abatement job ;) We were actually in there for an engine hoist thingy for my mechanical engineer hubby. But, you can find A to Z hardware here. Not all of it is top quality, but if that isn't important to you then you can get a wrench set for $5.99...that's right $5.99. I don't even think Walmart is this cheap. For those of you with bona fide workshop needs, you can get any type of saw, any type of lathe, any type of air compressor, painting tool etc. In fact, if you are a real contractor, you probably aren't on Yelp trying to find a torque wrench, and you've probably been to one of these stores before. For you newbies trying to start up your own business, this is your start up store. Hmmmm, what else. Oh, they also sell weird gifts like nose hair trimmers, rad huh? Annnnd they sell the 2 ton floor jack that I've been dying to buy my husband (you know where I'm doing his birthday shopping). Have fun kids! read more

Some of the lowest quality tools that you can find but they work, as long as you dont use them on a daily basis, like a mechanic or a dealership technician. If youre a backyard mechanic then this stuff will do but seriously, theres a reason why snap on tools costs so damn much. Its quality stuff. To steal their motto, There Is A Difference ! read more

This is the first review of Harbor Freight Tools on L Street in Chula Vista. There is also a Harbor Freight Tools located in National City and also Miramar. Both of these stores have equally good ratings on Yelp. I just want to write this review in particular because of a sales woman who helped me one day at the L Street location. I was shopping for some tools that I needed to get finish a project for a construction project (electrical) and a sales lady named Sarela went out of her way to help me. The store was kind of busy on this particular day but Sarela took her time to help me. She was knowledgeable about the tools and she was very friendly. She also helped a gentleman who didn't speak English with his buy. I will be going back to this L Street location to buy any tools in the future. This lady was nice and professional, something you rarely find anywhere any longer! Update 9/30/13: This Harbor Fright location fired or laid off the only worker here with customer service skills. Her name was Sarela and she was helpful and polite. I'm going to Home Depot now. read more

I was looking for some nitrile glove to use at the house for sanitation purposes. Harbor freight had a sale for $7.99 per box of 100 pairs. This is my first visit here and I was impressed with how their signage direct you to which aisle to go, to buy your stuff. A great place to shop for tools since most of them are guaranteed for life. I also bought a microfiber car duster for $7.99, it includes one exterior and one interior duster. I think I found another great store to shop. This one is located at L street in Chula Vista. read more

On Sunday I went to the Chula Vista location to purchase a generator, $1,037.went thru, it showed approved, cashier comes back after I take out my card & says run it thru again didn't go thru, I log into my bank account & show her that it went thru she shows me her screen it didn't, manger comes not giving a care about now my pending charges stating I couldn't take my merchandise as it didn't go thru, and just so rude about it, well it is now officially billed, with another $991 on my card I am now fighting with my credit card about. All they had to do was call bank to cancel right then, I really wanted 0000 stars but can't post without a star. read more

Harbor Freight Tool is a large discount chain tool store.Yes,they are low buck but most of thier tools in stock are cheap, low grade products made in China. I guess the items they sell are OK for the occasional "do-it-yourselfer" but for the professional tradesman who relies on thier tools to make a living, Harbor Freight's products are not going to stand up to hard use in a professional enviroment. For example: a friend bought a sawzall from HF for only a mere $49 and brought it to the jobsite. After about 2 hrs of continous use, the recipricating piston broke and he to trash it! Not surprised...thats what you get for buying a toy! I did manage to find a few items that were of fairly good quality that helped them earn a 3 star rating.I purchased a small uni-bit for $18 that was quite good. They also sell furniture dollies here that are quite useful in my line of work for a really low price. You can find serious everyday bargains on disposable items like paint and acid brushes, gloves, tarps, etc. I guess it really depends on what you are in the market for.... "Bob the Builder" type tools or professional grade equipment. read more

Chinese slave tools, or harbor freight tools as they prefer to be called has an amazing selection of cheaply made tools and items that cost WAY less than similar items at Home Depot or Lowe's. For the DIY people this place is amazing, you can get all kinds of heavier tools and support equipment at a price a hobbyist can afford. Make sure you sign up for the mailer, it comes with 20-25% coupons (which you can also find online. Just search for: harbor freight tools 20 off coupon) If you are a tool gal/guy and you've never been here you're in for a real treat! read more

Leonard the store manager is amazing. He is very attentive and answered every question I had. Jennifer is also a peach, very kind and helpful. They even remembered me by name when I went in for the second time! I will recommend this place to everyone and will definitely be back! read more

This is a do it yourselfer paradise. Tools at really great prices and use the special coupons and you'll save even more. I think I saved about $50.00. Who doesn't love a bargain, eh? Picked up a cordless drill for $35 and an 80 piece rotary tool kit for $7. Plus I picked up a long handle grabber picker upper thingy for $3. How cool is that. read more

Harbor Freight has amazing prices compared to the big box stores. But, like the old saying goes "you get what you pay for." My funniest purchase was a box of face masks, they would've fit...if I was six years old. They barely covered my nose and bottom lip. I like to come here for those one-time-use items gloves, paint trays, etc. Although you will find good deals on tools or equipment that will no doubt last. Lines can be long sometimes, but it can vary on time of day and advertisements. read more

Hardware stores can be so boring. But if I absolutely have to go, I prefer going to Harbor Freight rather than the big box stores. They always have good deals and send weekly flyers and coupons in the mail. This is a good place to find little necessities for home and garden. My hubby has found some good automotive tools at this location. This store is always busy so prepare to wait in line for check out, especially on Friday afternoons. read more

I don't come here as often as I should but that's because it's so far from my house. They have three in San Diego and I'm in the middle of all three. The one in Chula is probably the closest to me. I went down there today to get a tool I needed that other places didn't have and it was cheap, which is why most people go to Harbor Freight. The problem was the long lines to pay for your purchases. Then I drove all the way back to City Heights and found out that the tool I bought was missing a piece, ugggghh. Had to drive all the way back down to Chula Vista to get the replacement, but it worked after that, so wasn't too bad. I've had better days. read more

I think this store is pretty awesome. The tools may not be the best quality, but who cares, they are good enough for the do-it yourselfer. It's fun to just walk around and look at the random stuff they have. I've picked up a few tarps and tie downs there which were pretty cheap ($$ wise). They have everything from tools to fix your watch to welders. Definitely will continue to come back. read more

I wanted to buy a drill. I checked out Home Depot, but they were too expensive, so to Harbor Freight Tools I went. I bought my drill for $14.99, and with the 20% off coupon, I only paid $11.99 for. Plus, I had a coupon for a free flashlight. I just wish they were closer to my house. I told them that they need to open a store closer to or in the City of San Diego. read more

Harbor Freight Tools always gives great deals on hardware & other miscellaneous tools. Most of the items are not that durable but you kinda get what you pay for. Also, if you only use the materials every once in awhile it'll last you a while. There wasn't that much staff in there to help answer my questions when I came in. Probably most of their funds were used to give discounts on their products & cut back on staffing. Overall good place to get quick cheap tools to either use once or sparingly. read more

Honestly, they don't even deserve 1 star, but that's the minimum this process allows. DO *NOT* PATRONIZE Harbor Freight!!! SAVE your money and SAVE your time! Yes, their advertised prices are often lower than the competition, but *Warning!!!* they *routinely* engage in False Advertising by *NOT* having their advertised items *IN STOCK*, and they are extremely casual about providing any "solution" or "updates" about any of it. They are shady as hell folks, and often the quality is suspect too. STAY AWAY, for sure. CUSTOMER BEWARE!!!! read more

Great place for many items and you will save a ton of money- esp with the 20 or 25% discount. Gloves, window security motion detectors, screw drivers, batteries, safes, tarps, fine grit sanding sponges(for calluses) and free flash lites, are a bonus. Love this place... read more

They have a wide variety of tools @ reasonable prices. They send out a monthly doscount flyer which is nice to look at & plan.

This place is the best!!! They got everything you want at the price you want. Right off the freeway. Easy parking. I definitely recommend.

Don't get me wrong, this is a nice big store and the staff is knowledgeable and the inventory is pretty good. But there is a lot of "trickeration" going on here I mean A LOT... As you walk in the door, there are signs everywhere "everything must go" "up to 75% off up to 55% off"... but bottom line, when you pick out your items and you get to the counter there is NOTHING that is on sale... Even their brightly colored flyer "everything must go" actually showing the items you got saying up to 55% off... it is all "trickeration." Generally, I don't mind paying regular price for stuff but what I don't like is I don't like being deceived or tricked or played for someone that is stupid...Try Home Depot or Lowes.. The price will most likely be the sameish...but they won"t play you for the fool... read more

Pretty fun store to just walk around and look at random things. Its really neat and organized but the lines can get crazy long. Our last visit we had a cashier who was very new and was very friendly. Although we don't visit often, we still appreciate it when we need it. read more

this review isnt for Harbor Freight tools, but for this location, specifically their staff. when i lived in clairemont, i would go to the mira mesa location for my inexpensive tool needs. now that im in city heights, this location is closer. the handful of times ive been here, ive never really had a positive experience with the cashiers. there is often a line, and the (usually female) cashiers dont seem in a rush to assist people and help the line move along. they dont greet you with a smile or seem to be generally happy at all. i mean work cant be too fun, but if youre going to work in the line of customer service, at least be friendly? i wouldnt say that any of them ever really gave me an attitude or anything like that, though. also, the managers dont seem to be too knowledgeable either. you would think that as a manager of a store, you would be aware of what specials/coupons your store was running, etc. money saving tip: before you go buy a specific item at the store, check harborfreight.com for a cheaper price. the store is required to price match, although unlike the mira mesa location who is aware of the specials/etc, this location NEEDS you to provide proof of the online price. do this either by print out, or do like i did and take a photo of your screen with the item price. i saved more than $30 on an air compressor this way read more

Harbor Freight is like the Fry's for hardware. Don't expect any help but do expect decent prices. Tools here are generally much cheaper than other hardware stores and the quality is pretty good for use around the house and occasional car work. Would I use these tools if I was in construction or auto repair full-time? Probably not. read more

Customer service is horrible that sums up all. What else can I say. Every time my husband and I go here there is always a long line at the cashier. Management has to do something about this. read more

Typical harbor freight store but the cashiers at this store need more training and aren't very friendly.

Conveniently located down the street from where I live, but NOT so convenient parking. Well, the last two times I've visited, they don't stock the items I'm looking for. (I was hoping to save me a trip to HD or Dixieline but ended up making that trip anyway.) The last time I was there was the first week of April. Sizzling hot manager, though, or was she the DM??? Regional Manager, perhaps??? Sales rep??? Not to stereotype, but she seemed waaaay out of place for a rough and tumble store like this. read more

This place is like tool shed Disneyland for grown ups. If you want cheaply made but very inexpensive tools and love to check out weird and wacky odd items then this is where you want to shop. They do have a limited selection but what they do have is very inexpensive. As examples, I recently bought some blue tarps and bungee tie downs for my truck at less than half the cost of what they sell for elsewhere and I loaded up on incredibly cheap paintbrushes, socket sets, work-gloves, screwdriver sets and a cheap solar battery trickle-charger that plugs into my cigarette lighter . I even got an electric plumbing pipe cleaning machine six months ago that has saved me money on drain cleaning and that has not broken yet. I haven't had much luck with their expensive electric tools as a few of them fell apart or died, (a cheap sump pump and a cheap router) so they get a 4 star, not a 5, but for the numerous little everyday things that a handyman needs to have in the truck, this place cannot be beat. read more

This is my first visit here, and I'm amazed how cheap the prices for certain tools are. But to the Cashier that was helping me... seriously, need to work on her customer service skills.
