However, at some point-- I had to change dentists (maybe my original one left the practice?) and was informed that I URGENTLY needed a crown. Something in my gut told me to get a second opinion-- and surprise, surprise -- my tooth is perfectly fine. A little discoloration, but no crown needed. Apparently, my only real problem was walking into a practice more interested $ than caring for its patients. This place gave major "scammy car mechanic" vibes -- which left me with a BAD taste in my mouth-- pun intended.

We were brand new to Towson in mid June and my wife's TMJ started acting up, bad. It was so bad…read morethat she couldn't work, she couldn't talk and if she needed to do either of these, she would immediately start crying. I called around to some local TMJ specialists and she was scheduled for appointments in August or November. That didn't help her now. Despite not having a TMJ specialist on staff, Valley Dental Health agreed to see her the same day I called. They took her in and gave her an exam. They wrote her a script to help deal with the pain and offered some people that she could follow up with for additional assistance. One of those people was able to see her within a day or two. While Valley Dental Health couldn't assist my wife with her specific issue, I appreciate how they brought her in and examined her in a timely manner, provided a temporary solution and offered some referrals that got her on the road to recovery.

In the meantime I received a health screening email that had to be completed before the appointment. When I made the appointment I was told it was a consultation however when I arrived I was advised they will complete the surgery that day. I was a ball of nerves to say the least and I was hungry. Before the surgery the doctor introduces himself, he asks if you have any questions, and he goes over the process in detail. I did not need laughing gas, he numbed me very well, and I did not feel a thing. I listened to my music, about an hour or so I was done. The entire was amazing, parking was great, and the office looked clean. As soon as I got there he was ready so I did not have to wait. 5/5 experience and I would recommend him! First off, there are steps here. Because I am a wheelchair user, in order for me to get into an exam area I had to go around to the side of the business and come in the delivery door. I could not use the xray machine that revolves around the head because I'm too short and they don't have any sort of chair or stool to use. I was able to get x-rays the old fashioned way, where they make you bite down on those slides... Then I had to pay $30 out of pocket for the dental assistant to paint fluoride on my teeth, which peeled off throughout the day in a disgusting manner. She spent the entire exam recommending that I buy a $100 battery-powered toothbrush and the $50 replacement heads, cuz medicaid patients are just made of money, I guess. Thing is, she didn't want to sell the toothbrush personally. She suggested I get it on Amazon. Why the hard sell if she wasn't going to profit from it? I get through the exam and the actual dentist comes in. They discuss where I have cavities, they tell me I need to see an oral surgeon to get my wisdom teeth removed because at least two have cavities, but they never told me when to make the appointments or how to find a surgeon. It's been over a year since that appointment and I'm glad my teeth don't hurt because doing the research to find another dentist has been a pain in the butt. My boyfriend used the same dentist the week before to get three teeth removed. He's still in pain when he eats. Yes, a year later. He was present at my exam and mentioned his pain several times, but neither the dentist nor the assistant gave any cares. I cannot recommend this chopshop. There are many dentists in the dundalk area. Try one of those instead (though not the one on Merritt Blvd near jalapeños cuz the receptionists there don't know what they're doing). I really appreciated Dr. Truesdale taking the time to talk to me about my dental issues from a wholistic approach and I even vocalized that to her during my appointment. I scheduled my appointment for fillings and came in for my second appointment for the procedure. My appointment was at 9:40am. I walked in at 9:35 am and filled out my paperwork and was not seen until about 10:20am. I believe my procedure was started around 10:30. The delay was not ideal but I'm generally pretty understanding when it comes to doctor's offices and the domino effect of delays with one patient effecting the rest of the day so I was not too bothered. The procedure itself was brief, which I appreciate because I had to rush back to work afterwards. I then went to the front desk to pay my copay and I requested a quote for a night guard. The woman at the desk notified me that she had "provided me a quote already" and seemed very impatient. She then told me the price and it was out of my budget ($300 out of pocket) so I told her I would hold off for now. She had me pay my copay for the fillings, gave me my receipt, and as I was about to leave she said "oh wait there's an outstanding balance on your account for another $60 for counseling. Since you talked about your TMJ during your last appointment and your insurance doesn't cover counseling." I did not argue, as I was a little shocked and my mouth was still very numb from my procedure. I said nothing and swiped my card. This interaction made me uncomfortable. I was not given a choice as to if I wanted "counseling" or not and I have never had a dentist charge me for this before. I would really appreciate a heads up so I can opt in or out of a service. I have a very tight budget and this extra $60 makes it difficult for me to get gas this week for my car. I then walked out of the office to my car and looked in my mouth. I had metal residue on multiple teeth from the removal of my old fillings. I know this is not technically harmful but I didn't want to swallow that. Taking a few seconds after the procedure to rinse/ brush off my teeth would have really been appreciated. This experience left me feeling rushed out, undervalued, and taken advantage of. Not to mention, I found a new dentist, same insurance and they quoted me only $150 out of pocket for my mouth guard. That's half the price that Innovation Dental quoted me. They also billed codes to my insurance for "oral surgery" when I got my fillings and that is still up for debate on if it was appropriate. I have my insurance company looking into it. I would not go back here. Between the wait times and shady charges, I was left unsettled.

The Dentist did a wonderful job to get rid of my toothache, he was compassionate, gentle, and explained the whole procedure while getting fixed. I felt very comfortable, relaxed, and respected. The staff were all wonderful and friendly. I give a big thank you to the Dentists helper, she was wonderful and I can't remember her name. I've never felt so much compassion before. The only con was, it was expensive to get one tooth pulled. I'm on disability and can't afford dentists. I have no insurance, was hoping they'd charge me according to how much I make monthly, but sadly no. If you have dental insurance, I highly recommend.
