Overall, I had as great an experience as I could possibly have getting a root canal. X-rays and getting numbed are no fun, by Dr. Skane and his assistant were calming and reassuring. I'm always tense during oral surgery (who isn't), but it went by easily and quickly. I was also able to pay my deductible in advance so I was able to truck out of there to prevent more parking charges. And that's where the 4-stars come in (more like 4.5). It was $18 to park there for just over an hour. That's frustrating and highway robbery! I don't think the parking should be free, but some validation to offset that cost would be awesome! read more

Rude condescending and spreads rumors and badmouth patient to other dentists endo etc to prevent being able to get treatment

Root canals are never fun but they really made the whole experience as painless as possible. I was referred to Dr. Skane by my dentist. I called to make an appointment and the receptionist was super nice and competent. My insurance ID number has changed and she called my dentist's office to figure out what my new number is so I don't have to deal with my insurance customer service. She sent me links to online patient form and estimate of copay after insurance coverage which I really appreciated. On the day of the appointment, I drove to the office and was able to find street parking on Charles street. the office was nice and clean and the friendly receptionist welcomed me and walked through the whole procedure. Dr. Skane was his assistant were awesome and my procedure was done pain free. I highly recommend this practice if you need a root canal. read more

Based on other reviews, possibly Dr Skane is well versed at endodontics. I'll never know as his office staff was rude, condescending, and abusive, complete with glares and eyerolls and stomping. Had the gall to call me abusive because I called them "charming" in a sarcastic tone. I walked out of there before they told me that they weren't willing to treat me. How did it start? I was running a little late and called like a polite person to see if it was going to be an issue. From that point on, nothing but road blocks and snark. read more

If anyone tells you that root canals are awful, they've either 1. Never actually had one, or 2. Never had one at Harbor Endodontics. Root canals have a bad rap. The truth is, everything leading up to a root canal sucks, but the root canal itself is a breeze (when its done right). I have been a patient of Dr. Skanes for over a year, and during that time, I've had two root canals. I've been very happy with the level of service and attention I received both times. Dr Skane and his team are friendly, efficient and thorough. I think I was in and out of the office in under an hour, without any lingering pain or complications. If you have to visit an endodontist, I highly recommend that you check them out. read more

I previously posted a critical review of Harbour Endodontics after having a root canal treatment on May 25, 2017. I later spoke to Doctor Skane about my negative experience. He apologized several times, said he would do what he could to make things right, and answered my questions about the treatment after the fact. He even gave me a little history lesson regarding aspects of root canal treatment, which I found interesting. The conversation concluded with a final apology, and an invitation to stop by the office if I happen to be in the area. I would also like to add that my primary dentist complemented Doctor Skane's work. he said he was particularly impressed with how much of the tooth Doctor skane saved, explaining that it would make it much easier to shape the tooth for the required crown. I truely believe Doctor Skane wants to do right by his patients, and that the negative experience I had was due to his not realizing that I wanted details of the procedure. Many who are having root canal treatments don't want to know anything about it; they just want it over. I wanted to be told what to expect and to be given way points throughout the procedure so I knew what was happening. I believe, should I ever need another root canal, that he would make a sincere effort to acommodate that need. I am now recommending Doctor Skane if you are looking for a professional, comfortable, and pain-free experience. Just make sure to communicate to him exactly what you want/need. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you is all I can say. When I first heard that I needed a root canal, I was terrified. I am extremely afraid of needles and my pain tolerance is very low. Upon my first visit, Lindsay assured me that it would be painless... and that is was. Dr. Skane, Lindsay and Sarah did an awesome job. The only thing I felt were the three small pricks from the numbing needle, which the anxiety made worse than it actually was. The root canal itself was pain free and very quick, I even walked back to work. Thank you very much Harbor Endodontics for your professionalism and empathy. I want to give a special thanks to Sarah, Lindsay, and especially Dr. Skane for helping me on extremely short notice. I was in Baltimore for my grandfather's funeral and had to have emergency root canal therapy on TWO teeth. I truly believe that it was God's grace that allowed Dr. Skane to have two appointments that didn't interfere with the funeral. I was able to have one root canal the day before the viewing and another the morning of the viewing. The circumstances that surrounded me being home in Baltimore were stressful enough. When you add the stress of needing to have two root canals done and are in severe pain prior to those canals, the stress is on another level. Both Sarah and Lindsay were super accommodating and kind and I cannot thank them enough for putting me at ease. Dr. Skane is a master at his work. My pain was relieved and anyone I encountered that knew I had two root canals could not believe that I was fully able to engage in all the necessary family activities. Dr. Skane was thorough and efficient. He is definitely not the most warm and fuzzy guy (he probably knows this), but I just chalked that up to his personality. But, I do have that type of personality and he took well to it. I even gave him a proper fist bump and was able to get him to smile! However, it was clear that he strives for excellence and cares about his patients. Dr. Skane and his team could never really know what their help and kindness meant to me during such a rough time, but I wanted to be sure to let them know both privately and publicly. It is true that we don't know the battles people are facing which is why we should always at the very least be kind. I believe God led me to this office and for that I am grateful. I hope this team knows that what they do matters; not just the work, but how they interact. You guys are the best! And if I ever have need of root canal therapy again, I'll be on a plane from Atlanta to Baltimore and straight to Harbor Endodontics. read more

Does Dr. Skane know his stuff? Yes. Does my tooth feel 100% better? Yes. Will I go back? Nope. Dr. Skane may be the right doctor for some people, but he is 100% not for me. I let him know that it takes a lot to numb me up, and when he asked I told him that usually I'll feel numb but as soon as they start working we find out it was not enough. He told me to just let him know and he'll give me more because he didn't want me to hurt while he was working. So we get to work. And I feel it right away, and it was PAINFUL. I signaled to him but he wouldn't stop. It was pretty awful because I could feel everything, the drilling, the scraping, *shudders*. I've had a lot of work done, and have always been numbed enough to never feel anything, including the root canal I had done the previous week. There were some other issues along the way which make me not want to ever come back. I also found out he did not fill it so now I have to make another trip to my dentist to have it filled. Don't know 1) why he didn't fill it and 2) why he didn't TELL me he didn't fill it. Not surprised since as soon as he was done, he left and never returned. Never spoke a word to me after he finished. If I have to have a root canal that my regular dentist cannot do, I will not be coming back. I'll wait and find another doctor that can help me. Honestly they only reason I gave him 1 star is that Yelp will not let me give no stars. read more

I needed a root canal and was referred to Harbor Endodontics by my dentist. They got me in the same day, procedure took less than an hour, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. He (and his assistant) are efficient, quick, and clearly care about their patients. Procedure was pain-free and ended up being a breeze. Dr. Skane is fast, professional, and overall I had a great experience. The first time I visited him was 3 years ago, and he recommended against me getting a root canal for that tooth. I had another issue last week. I visited his office on my lunch break, he performed the root canal, and I had practically no discomfort at all. I was able to go right back to work, and only needed some ibuprofen for my recovery. read more

I have had a lot of bad experiences with dentists over the years.They guys were the complete opposite. They wouldn't even start until I was completely numb and comfortable. Even though I was nervous they never made me feel rushed. They completely explained everything before they did it. I also like the tools and technology they used. I had a root canal done here about a year ago and it was the best decision I ever made. I had continual pain in one tooth from getting a cavity filled at a local dentist office that did a terrible job. My new dentist referred me here and I got my root canal done that same day. I felt nothing during the entire procedure and it was honestly less painful than the cavity getting filled itself at my old dentist. You will be sore after the procedure but follow their recommended pain relief intake and you will be just fine. I will be coming here again if I ever need another root canal done. Harbor Endodontics and Dr. Skane are wonderful! Probably the best root canal I've had in my entire life (I've had three). Quick, painless, and feeling 100% a day later. Office experience was excellent as well - got in the day following my dentist's initial diagnosis, reception was wonderful, environment was clean and comfortable (plus the downtown location can't be beat). Of course I don't WANT to return necessarily, but if I need further treatment there would be no doubt in my mind about where to go. read more
