Meadow loop path
Robin S.

This is a large park, and I only explored a fraction of it on the hiking trail. This review is for the hiking trail only. Easy hiking trail with a very constant width. Compared to other woodland Georgia park trails, this trail has fewer ankle twisters. Fewer rocks, fewer roots, fewer erosion cuts. Slightly longer than the 4.5 miles advertised on the website, per the crudely painted mile markers (I hope they put up proper mile markers instead of painting trees, which is unattractive). The walk is even a bit longer than that considering the trail-head is a half mile from the parking lot along the multi-use meadow loop. So, it's a fairly long hike for a county park, although you will not find much in the way of elevation change. The park master plan - downloadable from the website - suggests that more trail is coming. A smaller loop inside the existing loop towards the southern end, and a trail on the other side of Alcovy River, accessed by a bridge. As for the trail experience, I have to say it's not terribly interesting the first couple of miles (as you travel CW). The scenery and terrain don't change much, so after you've soaked in the trees and listened to the sounds for a few hundred yards, that is pretty much what you're going to get until coming to the boardwalk at the south end. There are no distance views anywhere along the trail. Mind you, it's still a good experience and much better than, in my opinion, walking some of the paved paths you find in many Gwinnett parks. The trail is more interesting on the return half. A nice exposure of the ubiquitous granite/migmatite (I'm not sure of the exact lithology of this particular outcrop) you find locally (Stone Mtn, Arabia Mtn, Panola, etc), along with the wonderful mosses and lichens that grow on the rock. Past the boardwalk, the return trail winds a bit more and crosses a couple of creeks. Plenty of mushrooms growing, if you're into that. Some quite large. Safety features: at the southern end, they have 'emergency access to parking lot' paths that shortcut the trail if you find yourself unable to complete the full length. These are not shown on the pdf trail map. Also, all along the trail you will find 'locator' numbers that will precisely locate you if you have to call for help using 911. The park also has miles and miles of mountain bike paths, as well as horse trails. Huge parking lot. We were there on a summer Thursday afternoon and the lot was virtually empty, which is not too surprising given the heat and humidity of the day. But the park can accommodate a lot of visitors. Very clean park, which is not the case with all Gwinnett County parks (I'm looking at you, Yellow River Park). Verdict: Harbins Park is nice but is more oriented towards family activities, mountain biking or horses, none of which interest me. Given the size, I'd think this would be a great park for bikes. I do like the length of the hiking trail even if it isn't the most interesting in the Atlanta metro area. Davidson-Arabia Mountain, Little Mulberry, Panola and even Ft Yargo State Park are all a bit better for hiking due to the better scenery and terrain. And there's Sweetwater Creek on the other side of Atlanta, probably the best hiking park in the metro area.

This is the second Harbins Park, which is located about 1 mile away from the other Harbins Park, which is known for Cycling, Mountain Bike riding, walking/running/jogging trails and its equestrian trails. The location here is primary used for baseball, they have about four huge baseball domes and 7 batting cages that are used throughout the baseball season. These can probably be used when games not are being held. Sometimes during the weekdays when I come out here to ride I see parents playing tee-ball with their kids. Harbins Park 2 is brand new, it was completed in 2013 and has a 1 mile multipurpose paved trail for walking, running, jogging, or cycling. In the centre of the park, they have a really nice playground area for the children to enjoy, now it is not as big as the main Harbins Park off Luke Edwards Rd, but it is completely unique. This is one thing that I really enjoy about gwinnett parks, all of their parks are completely different and are not cookie cutter designed. Enjoy the pictures. Stay healthy and fit. ;)

Football horses and hiking Harbins Park is a huge and sprawling park of almost 2,000 acres. All kinds of undeveloped woods as well as a wide variety of activities are available. Just about anything a person could possibly want to do outside can be done here. The park has high quality baseball, football and soccer fields, playgrounds and pavilions, grills for picnics and even a dog park. Once away from the developed area acres and acres of woods go in all directions. A fantastic place with over seven miles of equestrian trails, miles of paved trails for road bikes and also challenging trails for mountain biking. And of course all kinds of paths for hiking and jogging, some paved and others very narrow and slippery. A wonderful and impressive park that has just about anything for anyone of any age. It would take a long, long time to explore and utilize everything this amazing park has to offer.

The move to the spacious Lawrenceville Lawn has allowed the German American Cultural Foundation to enhance the entire experience, giving us the most authentic and festive Christkindl Market Atlanta has ever seen. What Makes the 2025 Market a Must-See? The expansion means more room for everything that makes this holiday tradition magical: Expanded Vendor Village: Stroll through dozens of traditional Bavarian-style wooden chalets offering handcrafted gifts, imported German ornaments, unique jewelry, and artisan goods (like the incredible Kenyan pieces from @shopKamawe!). The Glühwein and Gourmet Trail: The food and drink lineup is robust! You can't miss the authentic German flavors: Bratwurst, Schnitzel, Raclette, pretzels, chimney cakes, and, of course, the signature Glühwein (hot mulled wine) served in collectible souvenir mugs. A Festive View: Take a ride on the impressive 50-foot Ferris Wheel for a sparkling, panoramic view of the market and the surrounding holiday lights! In my opinion as someone who travels all around the southern United States to visit hiking trails &…read morewaterfalls, Ivy Creek Greenway is a lovely local opportunity to get out into nature without driving a great distance. FIRST, the trail is peaceful. On most of my visits there have been a minimal amount of walkers, riders, and/or hikers on the trail. It's a great place to walk by yourself, with a friend or even as a family. SECOND, the trail offers multiple experiences. The section that starts beneath the southbound exit on I-85 traveling west towards the Gwinnett Heritage Center is fully paved. But from the same point traveling east is a wooded hiking trail with dirt/gravel paths. Along this eastern section are also many spur trails leading into the large marsh area sandwiched between Mall of Georgia Blvd & I-85. THIRD, while it is very close to civilization it feels like its own world. I love that you can get away right in the heart of a populated area and feel very much like you've been on an adventure. [ THE EXPERIENCE ] There are several access points, but we chose to park at the Mill Creek Nature Center on the backside of the Mall between Bird Watcher Supply Company & Wendy's. There is only space for about 10 cars in the little gravel parking area, but don't worry. If it is full there is plenty of paved parking available just across the Boulevard. Once parked you walk out to the sidewalk parallel to the street for a short distance until you come upon a set of wooden stairs leading down to the trail. When you reach the main trail you can go left where the trail will lead you 1 mile to Gravel Springs Road or go right towards Hwy 20. We decided to go right, but along the way discovered a wooden foot bridge leading through the swamp. This is not actually on the official trail map and will add approx. 1.25 miles to your hike. *WARNING - it can be a bit confusing to follow because it breaks off into so many side trails, but if you are capable of remembering the way you came, it won't be a problem. The marsh trail contains MANY old wooden footbridges to keep your feet dry as well as a watch tower that overlooks a wide open area of the marsh. I would imagine this would be a fun area for young ones to pretend they were trespassing on SHREKS land. Along the way there are also several markers indicating different species of trees, plants & wildlife from opossums to birds. Great educational tool for both young and older children. Near the lookout tower is a loop trail we did not follow. Instead, we returned the same way we came to the main trail. *** NOTE: We ventured across a HUGE snapping turtle on the main trail. It looked like a boulder at first. While snapping turtles can't run fast, their bite is lightening quick and their neck are longer than you think. DO NOT try to handle them. Continuing West we soon passed below the exit loop of I-85. Just before this point you will encounter a spur trail leading to the parking lot behind Mattress Firm, which also serves as another trail access point. Next you will cross under Hwy 20 before coming to an old concrete bridge leading across Ivy Creek. To your right is yet another parking area and access point, but I would advise you to only use this one if you have a high clearance vehicle. Ruts in the gravel have made it rather rough for low clearance cars. It's also tricky to get here since you'd have to cross into the parking area about where the southbound ramp is merging with Hwy 20. Once across the concrete bridge the waterfall is only a little over 200 feet away. If the water flow is good, you should easily hear it! It's not a natural waterfall, but the remains of historic Woodward Grist Mill. The metal wheel is still on site. The banks of the creek are sandy, making it a great spot to hang out a while with the kids or a date! Continuing west you will pass The Preserve @ Mill Creek Apartments. Near their picnic deck is another sandy area for relaxing right where the creek cascades for about 100 feet. Beyond that is a wooden boardwalk leading to a split. Either go towards the Gwinnett Environmental Center (right) or continue on Ivy Creek Trail (left). We walked the trail left all the way to the suspension bridge and then returned the way we came. [ FINAL THOUGHTS ] Overall we clocked about 5.25 miles from the Mill Creek Nature Center parking area to the suspension bridge and back with a tour of the swamp trail to the lookout tower. It is a very easy trail, but does get a little hilly as you get closer to the suspension bridge. Overall it took us a leisurely 1.5 hours on a GORGEOUS 80 degree Sunday afternoon with perfect breezes. I know what some of the other reviews say, but I can't see how anyone wouldn't enjoy spending a little time on this trail. Afterwards we ate @ nearby Burger 21, home to one of my favorite burgers (The OMG) and one of the ONLY black bean burgers my particular wife enjoys. HAVE FUN! 2022 / 62

The baseball fields are nice and so is the playground equipment. The pool could use an update.read more

Dacula Park 1/5/2021…read more Pros: spacious, great for baseball Cons: unmarked trail Located across the street from Dacula High School, Dacula Park provides a great outdoor space for sporting activities, mainly, baseball. The park has several outdoor baseball fields and batting cages. On the positive side the park appears to be family friendly. It has a swimming pool, pavilions, a playground and "pond" with geese. The park also has a paved walking trail, which brings me to my negatives about this park. The website states that the trail is 1.75 miles, however there are no mile markers or clear signage as to where the trail begins and ends ( which on my first go around made me uneasy, because I was unsure where I was going and the path splits off several times along the trail). Depending on which path you take the trail can be much shorter than expected, or can lead to dead ends and/or the parking lot. Part of the paved path takes you to a more wooded area located behind the baseball fields. Depending on your direction, you will pass on oddly place stone configuration, a small bridge, and an area currently under construction for a community garden. For dog owners I believe there are better trails in Gwinnett for dogs, which would provide more open grassy areas for pets the run and play. Overall, I think after you have explored the trail at least once and get a sense of where you're going it's a nice easy trail to walk or run.
