Great view of Miller Lake (sorry this new phone doesn't have the best camera), just go check it out for yourself!

"892 acres?!" Holy smokes, that would explain a lot LOL... My clients and I recently bit off more than we could chew at this park two Fridays ago. Obviously, we didn't get through all of it, but we saw more than we intended. I did not realize the actual size of this place and I guess I should've read Richard R.'s review more thoroughly or at least took a good look at the trail map before we got started, but like a big ol' dummy of course, I decided we should just jump in. I guess I thought there would be a simple loop trail we could get in and out of here like most Gwinnett Parks (and there are), but that can be easier said than done as you'll find there are a ton of entrances and exits here and you could get a little mixed up after awhile. Long story short, we entered from the disc golf side, which if you're coming in closer from Atlanta is the first suggestion for Little Mulberry Park that Google maps will pull up. It seems like a good "main entrance" with accessible entry, bathrooms, a picnic pavilion right off the parking lot with grills, and easy access to the playground where there is also one of those mini libraries where you can trade books at the mailbox. We started on down the sunny path which connected to what we now know is the 2.2 mile Miller Lake Trail. We took the fork down to the shaded portion through the trees around the lake. It was a busy park with lots of people walking even on a weekday. After we finally made it around, we enjoyed the view of the lake which was worth the trek. There are lots of benches, picnic tables, and observation decks to catch your breath at along the trail, including a fun swinging bench up over the trail on a small hill overlooking the lake. We were thankful for these stops as it was already 90-something degrees in the shade. Heading back is what we messed up. Somewhere along the long winding path of the 2.2 mile trail, we got off early. I'm now thinking it was somewhere near Pine Road side. There are bathrooms and a parking lot there also when you come up from the stairs. I thought it would connect to the other side of the parking lot like Alexander Park does in Lawrenceville, but sadly it does not. If you follow the sidewalk, eventually it will take you straight to Hog Mountain Road which is pretty scary to cross, since it's so busy. Not sure if there were any crosswalks, but we ended up hoofing it in the bike lane for awhile to stay on the correct side and walking directly in the sun to get back to the disc golf entrance closer past Patrick Road. This was very unpleasant, and I recommend turning around and going back through the trail itself if you find yourself getting out too early like we did. The bike path is pretty narrow and the grass area next to it is pretty uneven, so it's not the safest in general, but thank God we were all careful and made it. Lesson learned! We probably walked a good 3-4 miles instead of 2.2 in the heat, since we also had to trek back uphill to get around the main entrance where you drive in. So our first experience was not the most relaxing to say the least, but I still rate it five stars, since it was my fault for not looking at the trail map a little closer. I will say if you want to kill a day, this is a good place to come and enjoy. My favorite part was probably just relaxing at the pavilion for lunch and checking out the lake via the swing bench - a great place to meditate. If you don't like bigger parks, I would say don't come here, unless you want to just stay near the entrance. But it's a great place, just be aware and pay attention to that map especially if it's almost 100 degrees outside and you don't want to get lost.

This is a beautiful park with so much to do! There's hiking trails, paved trails, playgrounds, picnicking spots, horse trails, and more! The history behind it makes it cool too; the park was built on land that Native Americans used to live on, and there are little stone altars up in the woods left behind from those days, called Indian Mounds, which date back to the 19th century. The only thing that makes me skeptical about coming to this park sometimes is how big it is and how secluded you feel in some spots in the woods of the paved trail around Miller Lake. As a woman, I very rarely walk or run this trail alone or without one of my dogs to accompany me, especially if it is in the evening when the sun is about to go down. It just makes me nervous, because I've heard stories of people finding bodies in these woods at this park, so one can never be too careful these days! All in all, this really is a great park. Just be careful out there and stay safe! Happy trails!

I truly feel blessed to live in Gwinnett County. We have some of the largest and most magnificent public parks around and @ 892 acres, Little Mulberry is practically the crown jewel. There are over 15 miles of trails with something for everyone. PAVED TRAILS * MILLER LAKE TRAIL is a 2.2 mile paved trail around beautiful Miller Lake. Easily the most scenic trail. It is also one of the more populated trails, but still enjoyable. You will see dog walkers, skaters, bikers, fisherman, runners, speed-walkers, families, couples, elderly and toddlers. Recently I discover there is a hidden dinosaur on one of the lake islands, so try to spot it. This trail is best accessed from the Hog Mountain parking area. * CARRIAGE TRAIL is a .66 mile connector trail, but don't let the short distance fool you. The park is divided into two side with two distinct parking areas. This trail connects the north end of the park to the southern end, which also contains the tallest elevation in Gwinnett. The elevation gain along this trail is about 316 feet in a short distance. Your legs will surely be burning, but it is all paved and wooded, so you will have great protection from the hot Georgia summer sun. After heavy rains, there is also a noticeable waterfall. * EAST & WEST MEADOW TRAILS are one mile each. West Meadow is the more populated of the two as it is closer to the parking area off Fence Road and hosts the picnic pavilion and restrooms for the south end of the park. Beautiful meadow views. Be sure to find the cross-country trail through the grasslands up to the stone observation deck. Here you enjoy 360-degree views of the county. * POND TRAIL is a short .6 mile journey around a tiny pond. I call it the TODDLER TRAIL. It is also home to the children's playground and picnic area. A perfect place to bring young children. We've also had three birthday parties for our boys here when they were younger. Big open fields are great for soccer, Frisbee throwing, kick ball, kite flying, or whatever games the little tikes can conjure up. * RAVINE TRAIL is my second favorite trail. The entire 2 mile trail is completely wooded, but has been fully paved in recent years. It is a peaceful trail with many elevation changes for a good calorie burn. Along the trail is a waterfall (when it has been raining), a curved foot bridge, a Beech tree forest, a creek, a challenging uphill climb and an ancient tree. I love that it feels 15 degrees cooler on this trail in the summer than the other open trails. Also, you will often see families of deer in the early mornings. UNPAVED TRAILS CROSS COUNTRY TRAIL is for runners. Not sure of its length, but it is a trail through the meadows easily noticeable as you will see the grass has been cut low and is approximately 10 feet wide. Feels good on your knees and feet to run this trail. EQUESTRIAN TRAIL is my absolute favorite trail. It is approximately 4.25 miles long through the deep woods of the park. Elevation changes are extreme in some areas, but it honestly feels like you are hiking in the Smoky Mountains, not a public park. I've walked this trail many times without ever encountering another human, and other times when I got to meet a few gorgeous horses and their riders. It is a wonderful place to be alone with your thoughts and provides me with a place to distress. There are also a few benches along the way overlooking the higher peaks. Access through the equestrian parking area off Mineral Springs Road. FINAL THOUGHTS Little Mulberry Park is simply a wonderful place to escape without being too far from home. You can experience everything from grasslands and meadows to dense forests. Creeks and wetlands to lakes and mountain peaks. Not only is there a variety of flora and fauna, but thoughtful touches like fishing piers, benches and a disc golf course. In the spring you will see geese and their young gathering as if they're having a family reunion. Occasionally as you walk the trail, a beautiful scent will capture your nostrils as plants release natural perfumes. Birds sing out as if they are saying hello and busy squirrels & chipmunks bounce along searching for food. Fall transforms the park into a dazzling canvas of color and a delight for the eyes. Yes, I love this place! 2018/31

In my opinion as someone who travels all around the southern United States to visit hiking trails &…read morewaterfalls, Ivy Creek Greenway is a lovely local opportunity to get out into nature without driving a great distance. FIRST, the trail is peaceful. On most of my visits there have been a minimal amount of walkers, riders, and/or hikers on the trail. It's a great place to walk by yourself, with a friend or even as a family. SECOND, the trail offers multiple experiences. The section that starts beneath the southbound exit on I-85 traveling west towards the Gwinnett Heritage Center is fully paved. But from the same point traveling east is a wooded hiking trail with dirt/gravel paths. Along this eastern section are also many spur trails leading into the large marsh area sandwiched between Mall of Georgia Blvd & I-85. THIRD, while it is very close to civilization it feels like its own world. I love that you can get away right in the heart of a populated area and feel very much like you've been on an adventure. [ THE EXPERIENCE ] There are several access points, but we chose to park at the Mill Creek Nature Center on the backside of the Mall between Bird Watcher Supply Company & Wendy's. There is only space for about 10 cars in the little gravel parking area, but don't worry. If it is full there is plenty of paved parking available just across the Boulevard. Once parked you walk out to the sidewalk parallel to the street for a short distance until you come upon a set of wooden stairs leading down to the trail. When you reach the main trail you can go left where the trail will lead you 1 mile to Gravel Springs Road or go right towards Hwy 20. We decided to go right, but along the way discovered a wooden foot bridge leading through the swamp. This is not actually on the official trail map and will add approx. 1.25 miles to your hike. *WARNING - it can be a bit confusing to follow because it breaks off into so many side trails, but if you are capable of remembering the way you came, it won't be a problem. The marsh trail contains MANY old wooden footbridges to keep your feet dry as well as a watch tower that overlooks a wide open area of the marsh. I would imagine this would be a fun area for young ones to pretend they were trespassing on SHREKS land. Along the way there are also several markers indicating different species of trees, plants & wildlife from opossums to birds. Great educational tool for both young and older children. Near the lookout tower is a loop trail we did not follow. Instead, we returned the same way we came to the main trail. *** NOTE: We ventured across a HUGE snapping turtle on the main trail. It looked like a boulder at first. While snapping turtles can't run fast, their bite is lightening quick and their neck are longer than you think. DO NOT try to handle them. Continuing West we soon passed below the exit loop of I-85. Just before this point you will encounter a spur trail leading to the parking lot behind Mattress Firm, which also serves as another trail access point. Next you will cross under Hwy 20 before coming to an old concrete bridge leading across Ivy Creek. To your right is yet another parking area and access point, but I would advise you to only use this one if you have a high clearance vehicle. Ruts in the gravel have made it rather rough for low clearance cars. It's also tricky to get here since you'd have to cross into the parking area about where the southbound ramp is merging with Hwy 20. Once across the concrete bridge the waterfall is only a little over 200 feet away. If the water flow is good, you should easily hear it! It's not a natural waterfall, but the remains of historic Woodward Grist Mill. The metal wheel is still on site. The banks of the creek are sandy, making it a great spot to hang out a while with the kids or a date! Continuing west you will pass The Preserve @ Mill Creek Apartments. Near their picnic deck is another sandy area for relaxing right where the creek cascades for about 100 feet. Beyond that is a wooden boardwalk leading to a split. Either go towards the Gwinnett Environmental Center (right) or continue on Ivy Creek Trail (left). We walked the trail left all the way to the suspension bridge and then returned the way we came. [ FINAL THOUGHTS ] Overall we clocked about 5.25 miles from the Mill Creek Nature Center parking area to the suspension bridge and back with a tour of the swamp trail to the lookout tower. It is a very easy trail, but does get a little hilly as you get closer to the suspension bridge. Overall it took us a leisurely 1.5 hours on a GORGEOUS 80 degree Sunday afternoon with perfect breezes. I know what some of the other reviews say, but I can't see how anyone wouldn't enjoy spending a little time on this trail. Afterwards we ate @ nearby Burger 21, home to one of my favorite burgers (The OMG) and one of the ONLY black bean burgers my particular wife enjoys. HAVE FUN! 2022 / 62

The park has several outdoor baseball fields and batting cages. On the positive side the park appears to be family friendly. It has a swimming pool, pavilions, a playground and "pond" with geese. The park also has a paved walking trail, which brings me to my negatives about this park. The website states that the trail is 1.75 miles, however there are no mile markers or clear signage as to where the trail begins and ends ( which on my first go around made me uneasy, because I was unsure where I was going and the path splits off several times along the trail). Depending on which path you take the trail can be much shorter than expected, or can lead to dead ends and/or the parking lot. Part of the paved path takes you to a more wooded area located behind the baseball fields. Depending on your direction, you will pass on oddly place stone configuration, a small bridge, and an area currently under construction for a community garden. For dog owners I believe there are better trails in Gwinnett for dogs, which would provide more open grassy areas for pets the run and play. Overall, I think after you have explored the trail at least once and get a sense of where you're going it's a nice easy trail to walk or run.

It's also a great time to pray for my family, friends and the world at large... and simply give thanks for the blessings I sometimes take for granted. I LOVE group hikes, but I cherish deeply the alone value of a solo hike. [ TODAY'S TRAIL ENCOUNTER ] God made me adventurous, there is no doubt about that. The thought of exploring someplace new brings so much excitement and anticipation that I literally tingle inside. So today when I decided to hike a 1.5 mile section of the equestrian trail that I've never taken, even I was surprised at just how eager I was to walk it. I've hiked almost every non-biking trail in this park, but for some reason I've never stepped foot on this segment. Would it be difficult? Would it look different than other parts of the trail? How long before I connect to a section I recognize? And my most dominant thought: Will I meet any horses along the way? I've logged dozens and dozens of hikes here @ Harbins park and not once have I ever met a horse on the trail itself. I find it rather ironic that I get so very excited about the unknown of new hiking trails and vacation destinations, but get so worried over life and its unknowns, especially when it takes unexpected turns. I pondered this clash in thinking as I walked and prayed, asking for guidance and courage for life's challenges. As if on cue, I rounded a section of the trail only to see a deer sitting in wait along the trail. I've never seen a deer just chillaxing like that ever with its legs folded below its body (just like my cat sitting on her favorite ottoman peering out the window). I was thrilled, but I couldn't get my camera out fast enough to capture the image before it stood and ran off into the woods. While I would come to encounter about a half dozen more deer during my short walk, I kept hoping to see a horse. I figured the chances were extremely low since my hike would be shorter than normal (3 miles instead of 9) and I'd never seen one here on the trails before. There is a point on the equestrian trail where you can either continue or taken an emergency exit trail that bypasses nearly 3.5 miles of the main trail. Since I'd just hiked 8 miles the day before, I decided to take the shortcut and give my old legs a rest. But as good fortune would have it, I discovered two riders walking their horses on this side trail. I couldn't believe my eyes!! How odd that I would get my wish on a shortcut route I generally never use. What was even more interesting is I knew one of the riders from church. I've invited her & her family many times to join one of the OFF-THE-GRID yelp hikes that I host monthly. As we talked, I shared the date of the next upcoming hike and wouldn't you know it, she is free! God works in mysterious ways indeed! [ AMENITIES ] What an amazing park!!! * Harbins Park is the largest Gwinnett County park @ 1,960 acres * Trails include a 4.3-mile paved multi-purpose trail, 7-mile equestrian trail, 13-mile mountain biking trail and 4.5-mile hiking trail. * Several playground, picnic pavilions, grills, restrooms, and parking areas including an equestrian trailer parking. * The Football Complex has a lighted walking track, dog park, lake, and 1.5-mile paved trail. * The Baseball Complex includes seven baseball/softball fields, restrooms, concessions, and a LARGE parking area. * The main park also has a water pump in the parking area to rinse trail mud off your mountain bike. * Believe it or not, the public restrooms are generally clean, stocked and SMELL GOOD!!! [ FINAL THOUGHTS ] I ponder a great many things, wishing for answers and hoping for wisdom to better manage life's complexities. Like most people, when it comes to life I just want to know where it's going. Funny how something as simple as a hike can reveal small truths. Truths like how you may never know the twists and turns of your trails, or be able to control the ups & downs of your journey; But if you keep pressing forward with good thoughts, excitement and openness to possibilities, God will surely give you wonders and delights along the way to encourage you. 2019/118
