This park is by far my favorite in Gwinnett County because of the mixed use paved versus non-paved pathways, well-maintained, and overall cozy vibes. Like an outdoor museum. Even the restrooms are the best that I've seen in local parks. The location is very conveniently located with a Duluth entrance and Suwanee entrance. Plenty of parking. Even a public garden. Busiest times are after 11am on weekdays and after 10am on weekends. The best entrance is on the Duluth side off of Old Norcross Road. Great for taking a morning walk and then visiting the local cafes afterwards.

The park itself had ample parking spaces. And the facilities there were clean and well maintained. There were various trails that's away from the main paved path. These side trails were nicely shaded and eventually leads back on the main path. The historic farm structures like the main house, farmhouse, side house and its outhouse are still erect. That's the charm of this place with the well groomed flower garden that someone upkeeps. The old and new altogether. As you wander the park, you forget you're in the heart of Duluth where shopping and restaurants galore await you. Because while you're talking around (and trying not to sweat to death during the summer), you'll hear the summer insects buzzing. It literally reminded me of my childhood during the summers hearing the loud insects buzz away.

The gardens are in beautiful, stone, raised beds and are rented yearly by community members. Community members tend to their own gardens, as well as the common spaces throughout the year. A number of events are held in the garden for the community, including cooking demonstrations (using the garden's cleaning station, grill, and green egg), gardening lessons, and celebrations. The garden includes a children's garden, where kids can enjoy digging in the dirt, too. This is a beautiful spot for frequent visits, as the gardens frequently change throughout the year.

If you need a small slice of nature amidst the hustle and bustle of an urban center, then you'll be rewarded by beautiful flowers, vegetables, and other plants to sooth your inner soul. Each plot is rented by a different person, so there's quite a variety of plants to check out. It's quite an education to learn more about how veggies are grown. Just ask a gardener if you see one tending to their plot! If you're interested in renting a plot, then walk into the Decatur Rec Center and ask the front desk for details! The garden is open all year but the winter is when many people let their plots rest before the early spring time starts in March for the new round of more robust plantings.

We often will stop here while walking through Oakhurst as it is such a peaceful environment. I love to browse the individual garden plots to see what's growing, or find a seat under a shade tree for a few. Granted, it was a weekday around 3 in the afternoon there weren't many people there. When I got arrived there was only one person in the mixed dog run with her dog. When I left about a half hour later, three other people showed up but everyone was in a separate dog run. The people I met were all very nice and I was told that the park rarely has anyone in the dog park area. I found that really odd because it seems like a nice park with a lot of room for your dog to get all of their energy released.
