Located pretty hidden from…read morethe main roads on Collins Hill Park, this park is pretty close to Collins Hill High School so you'll occasionally see the high school students playing basketball (yes they do have a basketball court) or do some training. This park is huge, and it has a lot of facilities, including a basketball court and a semi-beautiful lake/creek you can look at while you're taking a jog/walk. What I really like about this park is that it has a trail that's really similar to a hike; it's not paved roads and it's kind of in the backyard-ish area, so you'll see inclines and it really feels similar to a hike. Every time I record a jog, I see that one full lap around the entire trail is 1.4 miles, so it's a pretty great place to work out. I come here with my mom pretty frequently to get jogs when I'm getting tired of Rock Springs Park (another great park), but this is another great 5-star hidden gem park that's worth checking out!

But what a delightful surprise it turned out to be! What I thought would be a simple morning walk quickly became a full experience of art, community, and nature. The park is beautifully designed, offering something for every type of visitor. Wide walking and hiking paths weave through the grounds, inviting you to slow down and enjoy the scenery. Families can enjoy the spacious playground, athletes can hit the sand for a game of beach volleyball, and history buffs will appreciate the thoughtful and moving Army Memorial - Greater good by Michael Szabo. It's the kind of space that effortlessly blends recreation with reflection. While strolling, I had a great chat with one of the friendly groundskeepers who told me about the Saturday farmers market, as well as seasonal concerts and food trucks that make the park come alive with energy, music, and flavors. It's clearly more than just a park--it's a gathering place where the community comes together. As an art lover, the sculpture garden was the highlight of my visit. The pieces are striking, and I found myself particularly drawn to Esther and Miles, two incredible works by Olu Amoda of Smyrna, GA. The way he transforms recycled metal into such expressive, beautiful forms is nothing short of inspiring. Town Center Park is more than a patch of green space--it's an experience. Whether you're here to exercise, enjoy art, take the kids out to play, or immerse yourself in community events, you'll leave refreshed, inspired, and wondering why you didn't visit sooner.

A year later, I got to bring my baby back to that exact spot where I had my maternity shoot, which made it even more special. They also have an awesome playground for toddlers and up, with a super cute farm theme, and everything is kept in impeccable condition. It's a beautiful, spacious park, and they have a large dog park too. One thing to note: the park has two separate sides, so plan accordingly when you visit.

The park itself had ample parking spaces. And the facilities there were clean and well maintained. There were various trails that's away from the main paved path. These side trails were nicely shaded and eventually leads back on the main path. The historic farm structures like the main house, farmhouse, side house and its outhouse are still erect. That's the charm of this place with the well groomed flower garden that someone upkeeps. The old and new altogether. As you wander the park, you forget you're in the heart of Duluth where shopping and restaurants galore await you. Because while you're talking around (and trying not to sweat to death during the summer), you'll hear the summer insects buzzing. It literally reminded me of my childhood during the summers hearing the loud insects buzz away.

This one comes with legit hiking trails, two full pavilions, a playground, restrooms (yes, clean ones), picnic tables, grills, and even a fishing pier. And let's not ignore the fact that it's dog-friendly with waste stations--translation: no excuses not to bring your four-legged buddy. But here's the kicker: the Storybook Trail. If you've got kids and you haven't walked this trail, you're flat-out cheating them out of something magical. Giant trees shade the path, beams of sunlight slip through the canopy, and page by page a story unfolds as you hike. It's part exercise, part fairytale, and completely unforgettable. The nature trail is an easy 1.33 miles--perfect for a quick adventure that doesn't feel "quick." The talking trail is another, that you absolutely cannot miss. I'm already planning my return trip with my husband and son for fishing off the pier. This park is hiding in plain sight, and honestly, if you live nearby and haven't been, you're doing yourself a disservice. Stop driving past it. Stop ignoring it. Go.

So, I do feel that the trails could be better marked with not just green or red markers, but also with arrows. There are crank machines along the way that let you listen to information about the trees and animals that you might see in the woods. We did see a doe! There's also a children's play park, a restroom, and a story walk, where you read a book as you walk the shorter trail.

It's also a great time to pray for my family, friends and the world at large... and simply give thanks for the blessings I sometimes take for granted. I LOVE group hikes, but I cherish deeply the alone value of a solo hike. [ TODAY'S TRAIL ENCOUNTER ] God made me adventurous, there is no doubt about that. The thought of exploring someplace new brings so much excitement and anticipation that I literally tingle inside. So today when I decided to hike a 1.5 mile section of the equestrian trail that I've never taken, even I was surprised at just how eager I was to walk it. I've hiked almost every non-biking trail in this park, but for some reason I've never stepped foot on this segment. Would it be difficult? Would it look different than other parts of the trail? How long before I connect to a section I recognize? And my most dominant thought: Will I meet any horses along the way? I've logged dozens and dozens of hikes here @ Harbins park and not once have I ever met a horse on the trail itself. I find it rather ironic that I get so very excited about the unknown of new hiking trails and vacation destinations, but get so worried over life and its unknowns, especially when it takes unexpected turns. I pondered this clash in thinking as I walked and prayed, asking for guidance and courage for life's challenges. As if on cue, I rounded a section of the trail only to see a deer sitting in wait along the trail. I've never seen a deer just chillaxing like that ever with its legs folded below its body (just like my cat sitting on her favorite ottoman peering out the window). I was thrilled, but I couldn't get my camera out fast enough to capture the image before it stood and ran off into the woods. While I would come to encounter about a half dozen more deer during my short walk, I kept hoping to see a horse. I figured the chances were extremely low since my hike would be shorter than normal (3 miles instead of 9) and I'd never seen one here on the trails before. There is a point on the equestrian trail where you can either continue or taken an emergency exit trail that bypasses nearly 3.5 miles of the main trail. Since I'd just hiked 8 miles the day before, I decided to take the shortcut and give my old legs a rest. But as good fortune would have it, I discovered two riders walking their horses on this side trail. I couldn't believe my eyes!! How odd that I would get my wish on a shortcut route I generally never use. What was even more interesting is I knew one of the riders from church. I've invited her & her family many times to join one of the OFF-THE-GRID yelp hikes that I host monthly. As we talked, I shared the date of the next upcoming hike and wouldn't you know it, she is free! God works in mysterious ways indeed! [ AMENITIES ] What an amazing park!!! * Harbins Park is the largest Gwinnett County park @ 1,960 acres * Trails include a 4.3-mile paved multi-purpose trail, 7-mile equestrian trail, 13-mile mountain biking trail and 4.5-mile hiking trail. * Several playground, picnic pavilions, grills, restrooms, and parking areas including an equestrian trailer parking. * The Football Complex has a lighted walking track, dog park, lake, and 1.5-mile paved trail. * The Baseball Complex includes seven baseball/softball fields, restrooms, concessions, and a LARGE parking area. * The main park also has a water pump in the parking area to rinse trail mud off your mountain bike. * Believe it or not, the public restrooms are generally clean, stocked and SMELL GOOD!!! [ FINAL THOUGHTS ] I ponder a great many things, wishing for answers and hoping for wisdom to better manage life's complexities. Like most people, when it comes to life I just want to know where it's going. Funny how something as simple as a hike can reveal small truths. It offers tennis courts, bathrooms, covered picnic tables, an old train car, playground, and some musical instruments. I thought the musical instruments were cool. They were all percussion instruments. I'm not too good with percussion instrument names, but they have a xylophone, chimes, and some drums. The xylophone has sheet music as well to play simple melodies like Twinkle Twinkle. The trail here is NOT paved. It's a nature trail. I didn't know until I brought my baby's stroller. Oh well, carrying my baby through the woods wasn't too bad. The trail is not long or strenuous. The nature trail has simple signs on where to go. It's pretty open. It's a little creepy since you're in the middle of the woods. It's surrounded by Business parks and neighborhoods. But I wouldn't want to be caught here alone in the middle of the night. I don't play tennis, but if you do and need a court, this is a great place. It offers two sets of two courts. And they look to be in great condition. I think it offers pretty good amenities for a small park. It's not as cool as the others, but if you're close by and need to tire your brats out at the playground, need a quick hike, or want to play some tennis, this place is great.

There are dining areas to grill out. I have only used the running trail here although there are playgrounds for kids and a sand volleyball court near the entrance.
