Parking is easy to find, with enough space for at least 75 cars, including spots near what looks like a boat ramp. It costs $8 for the whole day, which isn't bad if you plan to stay a while. Fishing seems to be the main attraction here. There were plenty of folks (kids and adults alike) either in boats or lined up along the shore, casting their fishing lines off the bank. The trails are mostly easy to moderate, but there are a few steep, narrow spots where you'll need to watch your footing. I walked about 3.5 miles with a hiking group, following a loop that winds through the trees and offers a mix of open views and shaded paths. There are some benches along the way if you need a break. Bathrooms are available, which is always a plus, and there's a lot of green space. But honestly, I wouldn't recommend spreading out a blanket for a picnic as the ground is littered with dog poop, despite the big "no dogs" sign at the entrance. It's about an hour's drive from Atlanta, with the last few miles on Buford Dam Highway being steep and winding. The park wasn't overly crowded when I went, but there were a good number of people fishing or tubing. If you're looking for a peaceful walk by the water and don't mind stepping around a few messes, it's worth checking out.

There is a huge parking lot and bathrooms that are clean. There is a training track and pump track and it is all free to use. You will often see people using the trails to walk their dog or just go for a stroll or run. Some trails are longer and harder than others, but there is something for everyone. I have only been on the mosquito trails as they are easiest and I am new to the sport. I want to make it to the Dwelling run sometime. I love that there are directions of travel on certain days of the week, so smart to keep the trail even. The scenery is amazing beck there!

The first time we came here, we drove past it twice. There is a sign that says Aska Trail System parking, that's where you turn. If you are heading South on Aska Rd from Blue Ridge, the entrance will be on your right. Flat Creek Loop is part of the Aska Trail system and it will actually not mention Flat Creek until you're on the trail (which is a bit confusing). You start out the trail and pretty soon, it will veer off between Flat Creek and Stanley Gap. Stay on the Flat Creek trail. The first ~20 minutes of the trail will go constantly uphill and somewhere halfway up the hill, you will likely wonder if you took a wrong turn. Trust me - that work will pay off. The next fork is tricky, since it will say "Flat Creek" in both directions. STAY TO THE RIGHT! Trust me on this one... continue to gruelling treck uphill. Once you're finally on the top of the mountain, you have a fantastic, challenging, at times tricky downhill that will go on for quite some time. You cross over the Creek, have a bit more uphill (this one is super-steep... I had to push), then it merges back with where you came up and you end up back at the parking lot. I like this trail. It's a serious workout, but a lot of fun with a great pay-off on the downhill.

Such a beautiful but short little hike up, and the trail itself is very wide and accommodating to a lot of foot traffic. It does get a bit busy on weekends, but still worth it! The only downside is that because it is preserved, dogs are not permitted and could lead to a fine. Definitely friendly for littles and families, but you should obviously be cautious as you get to the top by the rocks and seats. There is also a nice fenced deck/pavilion that you can hangout on and enjoy a break during your hike.

A hidden gem in Cumming right by the lake! A friend of mine told me about this park a few years…read moreago, and it's become a favorite of mine to visit, especially in the Fall! Heads up, you will feel like you're driving into a neighborhood but rest assured, you're in the right spot! It leads you right to the entrance, and there is tons of parking available. There's a trailhead sign as well which is helpful. Gorgeous views of the lake on every side of the park, with plenty of trails in and around the park. Every time I visit, it's always very quiet and serene, and there's a little beach/island that is all dried out now that you can go walk out on which is cool. Anytime I need to destress, a walk around here instantly does the trick!
