This was my first stay at a bed and breakfast, and Nancy has set the bar pretty high! It was so comforting to have one person to speak with by phone to make reservations, greet me at the door, give me a tour, and be the perfect host throughout my stay. She has mastered the art of being there when you need her while also giving you your space if you need it. The entire house had a nice, laid back charm with all of the modern conveniences that you'll need. I loved sitting on the quiet back porch, while my teen daughter enjoyed the free wifi to do whatever she needed to do. The evening appetizers and wine were lovely, and she even offered tea or lemonade to my daughter. In the morning, we came down to fresh brewed coffee and coffee cake to munch on while she made our breakfast. Nancy was the perfect host, she gave great recommendations for enjoying the area, and even gave us great tips for visiting Chicago when we left - she is a former resident. read more

Nancy is the perfect host. She is super friendly, provides great suggestions on what to see and where to eat, and gives her guests the freedom to make the place their own. Our favorite time of day is around 5pm when she saunters out of the kitchen with cocktails and appetizers. She also does not serve breakfast at the butt crack of dawn, which we really appreciate. When in town, take her advice on heading over to Sawyer for the market and Greenbush Brewery. The gourmet hotdog shop and Middle Eastern restaurant served delicious food and ambience. This was the perfect weekend getaway for my finace and I. We have been searching for a cozy B&B for over a year now and I can now say that we've stopped looking. The Harbert House is pretty spacious. We slept in Gallery room. The room is large and full of light. It has a bathroom and 2 queen size beds. We slept well. The owner Nancy keeps things organized. Our first B and B experience...don't know how we can stay at another one after this! We loved the place...it is walkably near a market and art gallery and a short hike from the beach. This is the quiet that you want in a home away from home. We stayed in the pear room, which was, of course, decorated with various pear-y fruit things. Each room had it's own bathroom...so (whew! ) about the sharing during peak bathroom moments. TV's are also in every room, which was important since that is my digital lullaby at night. There were five rooms, each with it's own theme. The home was remodeled and opened as a b and b just about 1.5 years ago..so the decor is newer and fresh. Very comfortable with plenty of living space..a living room with another TV, a little game table, couches/chairs to read in, a screened in porch for the air of the outdoor inside, and a dining room. Enough places to hide if you want to, but also enough room if you came with people to congregate and chill together. Owner is a wonderful cook and we loved just chatting with her. If you love food, converse with Nancy! At 5-6pm she has drinks and appetizers for whoever is there. Breakfast was buckwheat waffles with grilled local peaches/pears, and proscuitto wrapped green beans. All of which were delicious. (The coffee rocks...) We came in the summer, but with the peaceful backyard, good food (and maybe a cooking lesson if you ask?), this would be a great place for a winter hideaway, Superbowl night, girls weekend, or a family get together. read more

This was my first B&B and now Im spoiled. Im from Mich and was looking forward to the lake so bad. I came to stay on a whim and was lucky to find in yelp. I have to admit that i had to tell myself to feel at home instead of being in someone else's home and Nancy the innkeeper help made me feel welcome. I had the house all to myself; wish i could have shared it w friends and fam!! I stayed in the Pear room and it was lovely. I like firm beds so i wish the mattress was firmer. Otherwise, you know Nancy cares about the details ... Down to having cotton balls and Q tips. I noticed that. You dont share a communal bathroom ! ...... What a refreshing B&B! First of all, the owner's hospitality is above and beyond. Not only do you get an extraordinary and memorable breakfast, but also a glass of wine in the late afternoon with her amazing little tasty snacks - my bouche was definitely amused. Breakfast was a delicious fritata of chives, mushrooms, chevre, a touch of thinly sliced salami and tomatoes. yum. Satisfying but not heavy. Gourmet, yet at the same time, home cookin'. The place is spotless, but not at all sterile. And unlike so many other B&Bs, it's not packed with way too much stuff. There are wonderful airy spaces, especially the big screened-in-on-three-sides back porch. You can sit there for hours and look out on -- actually be in -- a natural prairie/woodsy setting where wildflowers abound. Birders will be in paradise. Though I don't know what I was looking at, I saw at least 8 different kinds of quite beautiful birds who didn't know I was there! They came so close to where we were sitting inside in the porch! I must have been sitting there for an hour - it was so serene and restful, with birdsongs as my soundtrack. And the open front porch's hummingbird feeder attracts iridescent fluttering wonders. The welcome is warm and gracious, but Nancy's not the kind of innkeeper who's hovering around you all the time. What a relief, although she's quick to answer any and all questions about the area, and supplies heaps of useful resource material, should you need it. Each of the rooms has its own impeccably clean bathroom, and they all have a theme carried through to the carefully chosen art and often amusing objects. Don't miss Aunt Kate's vintage gabardine cowgirl shirt from the '40s hanging in the Old West Room. Oh, by the way, if you use a GPS, you'll need to key in "Three Oaks" instead of Harbert; go figure. We stayed here a few weeks ago to get away from Chicago for a night. I was worth every penny. From the wine and apps in the evening to the great breakfast in the morning, Nancy served us well and was great to chat with. Nancy was a delightful and seasoned host who truly knows how to prepare an exceptional breakfast. Being at Harbert House felt like coming home to Grandma's. The great room and fireplace provided just the atmosphere to make you want to kick off your shoes and "stay for a spell"....and we did just that. We never felt rushed, and Nancy was a great source of information on where to go and what to do. Went to the area to blueberry pick so we decided to stay for a night getaway and explore the area after. We arrived to a warm welcome from Nancy & Dave. Nancy always eager to give tips and recommendations on what we were looking for and very accommodating to us. Breakfast was healthy & delicious, but no one could resist a piece of the peach buckle cake she made I'm still thinking about it 24 hrs later. LOL. Their home was inviting, comfortable and very clean.... great location to some good restaurants, breweries, warren dunes very nice get away. We went to Cafe Gulistan on a 91 temp / humid evening "dinner was very good" just very warm indoors to the point we ate and ran. read more

We stayed two nights and Nancy was a wonderful host. She knew about the area and had recommendations for anything we wanted to do. Our room, the Gallery, was light and airy, and we were able to bring our 16 year old with, which isn't always possible at a B&B. The breakfasts were absolutely delicious, including the Dutch baby, the buckle, the smoothie, delicious vegetables, plus more and all were beautifully presented. Our son gave the food an A+. The screened in porch was our main destination and hang out area, which overlooked a beautiful prairie. We enjoyed chatting with all the other guests and would recommend this B&B to anyone. read more

I love Harbert House and Nancy. I had a home in Harbor Country for 16 years and then moved to Northern California. I consider Harbert House my home in Harbor Country now. My favorite is taking my grandchildren, who live in Chicago, to stay with Nancy and go to the beach. Nancy takes such good care of us and makes us feel so welcome. My grandchildren love Nancy. I had my 65th birthday party luncheon at Harbert House. The food was fabulous! I'm planning a longer stay this summer! read more

This was my and my husband's first experience at a bed and breakfast and it was AMAZING! From the moment we walked in the door, Nancy made us feel welcome and relaxed. The atmosphere is very chill. There's a piano (no beginner music for newbies like me though), games, books, tv, cds, the works. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The Comcast TV was a definite bonus for my hubby who couldn't sleep. The breakfast in the morning was phenomenal - more than I could ever expect at even the most upscale breakfast joint. Nancy was a great hostess - very conversational but also respectful of individual space. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing and romantic getaway to stay at the Harbert House. My boyfriend and I were a little nervous about staying at a bed and breakfast but we immediately felt welcomed and comfortable. All of the rooms including the common rooms were all decorated very nicely and the meals were delicious (especially since Nancy made gluten free breakfasts!). The view was beautiful and the house was very close to everything. I cannot say enough good things, we had a great time and are already planning our next trip! read more

Awesome B&B! Rooms were really contemporary and fun--not at all stuffy. They all had private baths, tvs, etc and they were quiet. Best part was the food. The owner is a former chef and made really great breakfasts. Plus she serves you a glass of wine and a tiny nibble in the evening. The area is pretty quiet, but we did go to two great restaurants on the owner's recommendation (Soe's and Fitzgeralds--we recommend those too!). Plus the harbert house is right off the main road of the area, red arrow highway, so it's easy to get around. It's near the beach too, if you're into that kind of thing (we are not, haha). This was my first stay at a B&B and wasn't sure what to expect. I was nervous about having to socialize with the hosts and was concerned about the community sharing. Now, I wish I would have tried a B&B years ago!! I went with a friend and stayed in The Gallery room. We each had our own bed which were SOOOOO comfortable!! Each morning, we were greeted with a lovely plated breakfast. Day 1 we had a frittata with spinach, roasted red peppers and goat cheese. Day 2 was buckwheat pancakes with roasted peaches and Michigan Syrup. Both were DELICIOUS! Each evening from 6-7pm, she hosted a happy hour with appetizers and a glass of wine. Each night was lovely and her boyfriend even played piano for us. Nancy, the hostess, was such a nice and lovely women and we loved talking with her. The house itself was quite large. My friend and I spent a lot of time on the large screened in patio where we listened to music, sipped wine and worked on a puzzle. I was surprised how much we hung out at the house but it was so relaxing, we didn't need to go out. What a lovely experience, I will definitely be going back!!!! read more

My Boyfriend and I were going to be in town for a family reunion in Sawyer, MI and decided to try a stay at a Bed & Breakfast and are so glad we did! We stayed in the Sun Room which was bright and cheerful and comfy-cozy! Nancy was such a gracious Hostess and truly made us feel like we were right at home. The Appetizers and Breakfasts were delicious...especially the Stuffed French Toast made with potato bread and stuffed with apples and cheese and the bacon wrapped shrimp...decadent!
