We have been coming to the chalets for over 17 years. What a surprise when we arrived for are annual week at the lake. We pay premium for a lake front chalet, view of lake is gone what I get to look as is a sand berm with boulders. I understand the lake is higher then usual but adding a five foot berm seem excessive. I also don't understand why I was not told in advance that the view was gone, or a discount was not given as lake front cost is higher then other chalets. GORGEOUS SUNSET! I went here for the first time this past Labor Day Weekend because of a family reunion. It was a decent find, and I will come again. The place itself is pretty nice. It has a great beach which is the highlight of the whole resort. The only problem is that there are too many rocks as you step in the water. As you walk in, there isn't rocks, and it's just all sand. The chalet I stayed in was just okay. It was lacking some space, and the bunk beds seemed a bit uncomfortable due to the space. I like the exterior of the chalet due to being a creative triangle. For each triangular-shaped building, there are two small houses. The pools are okay, but they are a little small, and not that deep (3 feet deep). The playground is a bit small and old-fashioned. There are a few slides and swings, but it can be filled with bugs at 5pm. I didn't have a problem checking in and checking out. The owners were friendly to my relatives and myself. The owners have a cute chalet, but with a balcony. All in all, this resort is pretty good. It has some ups and downs, but it's pretty good for a weekend. read more

Fierce summer storms definitely make a girl's wine weekend getaway interesting and exciting. Thanks to the these massive storms, our original lodging arrangements were hampered due to no power at the hotel. After some traveling around and four resourceful women, we found Chalet on the Lake. At first glance, we saw teepee like rental/owned summer condo buildings, certainly not your average hotel. We weren't sure if we'd find lodging here, but gave it a shot. Walking into the cool office, we were surprised to find that there were one night stays available for a group our size. In fact, our unit held up to 6 people comfortably, so we had more than enough space for all of us and then some. Our lodging was more like a cabin than a hotel room. We had kitchen, table and chairs, futon, tv, bathroom, and a screened in porch on the first floor. On the second floor, the bedrooms consisted of two bunk beds and a double bed in each room. The only real downside to our little unit was the one bathroom between four girls. We paid the same price for a typical hotel and got so much more. In addition to our spacious lodging, we had access to a private beach, tennis court, volleyball nets, and two swimming pools. All of us mentally bookmarked Chalet for future Southwest Michigan getaways. Chalet on the Lake saved us from lodging disaster and ending up making our little getaway nice and relaxing with a comfortable little chalet for the night. read more

Affordable and a LOT of fun. I went to Chalet on the Lake with a group of friends for the weekend. Our chalet was immaculate and well stocked with a full featured kitchen, pots and pans and utensils. The place was amazingly sound proof. We had music playing semi loud and I went outside to make sure we were not making too much noise and you couldn't hear a thing. Security is present but pleasant and not in your face. They have lots of rules like no walking around with alchol and no fires on the beach, but that was definitely not being enforced. We for sure will be returning next year. read more

Great location. Loved the pools and beach right next to each other. The kids loved the open areas for playing ball and running around. The basketball hoops were pretty dumpy and could use some replacing. The chalet reminds me of an old cabin on the inside. The location and land make it all worth it. read more

Another example of my belief that everything happens for a reason. We were originally supposed to stay at a chain hotel in another part of MI, but upon arrival that hotel had no power. They recommended an inn that turned out to be the Bates Motel transplanted, and another chain hotel that was booked. Since I was the driver, I tried to fool my friends into thinking I was calm, cool, and collected about us finding another place, so I suggested we just pull off the highway and check out the next lodging to appear on a sign. A few minutes later we passed Chalet on the Lake. My friends were a little hesitant but I tried to convince them to have faith. As we drove along a little country road, some chalets came into view. We pulled in and went into the front office. The sweet lady informed us, yes, they do rent some out for a 1 night stay and did have something available. Sweet! For the same price as the motel rooms would have been, our lodging here was really half of a chalet on a pond with a fountain (and ducks). Downstairs was a small kitchen (with frig, stove, plates, glasses, etc) and dining room table, a futon, TV with cable, a couch, and best of all, a screened in porch overlooking the lake (which became the scene of a lovely after-fest girl gab session). Upstairs were two bedrooms, each with a double bed and bunk beds. The only downside was that there is only one bathroom and it is downstairs. The grounds also have a fire pit, tennis courts, two pools, a privare beach, and dunes and the public beach are a stone's throw. The grounds are monitored by "guards" at night. Although we made horror movie jokes about the wooded setting, I felt pretty safe. It isn't the Ritz, but for a woodsy cabin, it was a good deal. I would love to gather some more people and go back and rent out both halfs of a chalet (and possibly closer to the lakefront, though we were still pretty close). read more

Started going to the Chalets over 30 years ago, with my kids when they were small,then my Grandkids. It has gone downhill in the last 5 years. My son went this year, Chalet was dirty, no glass in shower door. Garbage in plants around the chalet, old food in the cabinets. All around dirty . Plastic fence around the pond where my boys would spend hours sitting in the grass fishing. And to top it off no beach, its all eroded and the steps have been broken for going on 3 years. So for the 1300-1400.00 I pay a week we can find someplace else because the attitude of the Manager is like well if you dont like it tough. Because they wont refund. Look elsewhere, plenty of other places who value your money. Like I said Ive been coming for over 30 years and basically they dont care. read more

Great place to get away for the weekend! Chalet has a pool, tennis and basketball courts, playgrounds and a private beach.

The chalets are a very relaxing get away. We have been spending a week there every summer for many years. We have met other families that come the same week and have become great friends. We look forward to seeing them every year. I love the beach and the sunsets. Lots of activities for the active family. There have been many great volleyball games that bring people from all chalets out to play. The fishing pond is a great place to learn to fish. There are lots of places to run, walk & bike in the area too. Nearby St. Joe has great shopping and museums. Overall a great place to vacation! read more

This is family friendly resort. The chalets sleep six. Two bedrooms with a double bed and a set of bunk beds in each. Our chalet (79) was in overall good condition. It was right across from the park so the kids could play and I could see them out the window. The kitchen was updated with stainless appliances including a microwave. It was well stocked with plates, dishes and silverware. Too bad there were no wine glasses. We had to drink our wine out of a plastic cup. The room was listed as $195 a night, but once you book it on the website, they somehow managed to add a $30 "booking fee". I wonder if you could have saved the $30 t if you called your reservation in. IMPORTANT TIP- bring your own towels. They do not provide them. You would think at what ended up being $225 a night, they could have given us a few towels. They also expect you to do your own dishes, but they don't provide you with dish soap. Lastly, check out time is 10:00 AM. This was pretty inconvenient as we would have liked to the pool in the morning which doesn't open until 10:00. They threaten to charge you $50 for every 15 minutes you go over 10:00. Overall, the kids had fun. Not sure I'll go back. read more

i grew up coming to chalets every summer and it has always held a special place in my heart. my family recently started going back for a few days each summer and i still love it dearly. yes, some of the chalets aren't perfectly maintained, yes, sometimes fellow guests can be noisy but the beach is right out your door, there's a great fishing pond, little camp grills, swimming pools and tennis courts. and you simply can't beat the sunsets. i can't wait to go this weekend :) read more

Chalet on the Lake is a great place to come with a group of friends to spend a long weekend. You have access to cooking out, an incredible part of the beach, a pool, tennis and volleyball, and a bunch of other stuff. You never know who you're going to meet...most people staying there seem to be real nice! read more

The place is filthy, dated and disgusting! The staff was rude and basically ignored us! The people vacationing there were loud and drunk,..I felt like I was in college again..vulgar conversations at nighttime..a total nightmare! For the prices they are charging, I was expecting a lot more. I'm so disappointed! read more
