    Heron House hot tub area

Such a gem of a spot! Super close to the beaches, dunes, grocery stores, and downtown New Buffalo shops/restaurants. The owners are super nice and accommodating. All of the cabins are well maintained, clean, and kitchens are stocked with the basic stuff in case you decide to make a few meals while in town. All but one have a hot tub, and we had our own fire pit to use as well as the "communal" area that had another fire pit, with horseshoes, volleyball and a treehouse deck for the kids. The property is serene and peaceful, lots of birds and tons of beautiful trees throughout. Great for a any type of trip! A family getaway, bachelorette weekend, or a romantic weekend away. Definitely going to become a tradition for us!

The food service crew was also. Even the room I was in was above average and had the bathtub I need to soak. But the room didn't have an alarm clock or sound machine that should have been normal for a place like this. While the TV had a very good range of channels, the lack of a sleep timer again adds to stars being subtracted. Not having a microwave in regular rooms should be a no no for resort hotels. The food was average at best. Nothing to write home about especially the quiche and the muffins. If they want more stars, it is the little things that matter.

My favorite part was watching the sunrise over the marina from the balcony in the morning. It was a vibe. The room also had a fireplace which came in handy since it was around 40 degrees on the night we were there. Overall the room was nice and the view made it worth it. While there were some great amenities, they didn't quite match up to what I was expecting. They recently opened up The Living Room area in the lobby which has breakfast in the morning and snacks and drinks in the evening. They also gave us drink tickets as well to use on coffee or drinks. Breakfast starts at 8am, but I am an early riser and was hoping for a coffee while I watched the sunrise. I did make a tea with the electric kettle in the room. The lobby/Living Room set up is perfect for drinks, not so much for a family having breakfast. They do sell local Michigan snacks, but you have to ask at the front desk and they have to find them. I would've just preferred a vending machine or an easier way to get snacks between 8pm and 8am when the Living Room is not open. The pool and jacuzzi were great, but we did have a hard time finding them. The indoor pool entrance was through an unmarked door on the second floor so it took us a few minutes of exploring to find it. I don't think the indoor pool was heated, but it wasn't too bad. The hotel is very centrally located so it was just a short drive to the beach, restaurants, and shopping.

Both cabins we've stayed in offer wall units and one also had a ceiling fan. I think adding ceiling fans to all units would be very beneficial, as well as considering installing central AC. Unfortunately due to the climbing age of some of the family and the lack of AC, we will be looking elsewhere next year.

We were a little hesitant because of past reviews on this site (specifically the unit having a smell) but after reviewing the site and talking to the Firefly, we learned the unit was recently purchased by new owners and completely renovated, so we decided to go for it. We we SO happy we did, our summer getaway could not have been better. The unit was pristine, you can tell the couch and bed were new and they were actually comfortable (which is a big deal for me, I am typically really critical of rental unit furniture and I hate having to use it when I am away from home). But I felt really good about using these and I slept very well. The bathroom was lovely, it also felt very clean and newly finished. The kitchen was a little tight but it was ideal for making food to avoid having to go out. I think my absolute favorite part of this cottage was the screened-in porch. Waking up early and getting to listen to the woods and the waves in a protected cove surrounded by tall ferns was magical. I even was lucky enough to see a few fawns! Oh, and there was no smell. I will be coming back!

You are within easy walking distance to both the beach and downtown, making exploring effortless. For those looking to venture a bit further, the hotel offers convenient bike rentals right on-site. The indoor swimming pool and hot tub are fantastic amenities, particularly because they open up to a lovely outdoor patio where you can sit and relax. There is also a well-equipped fitness room available if you want to keep up with your workout routine. The room itself is incredibly nice, spacious, and filled with thoughtful design choices that show a lot of detail went into the space. Beautiful double doors lead into the bedroom, which features an abundance of closet and drawer space, and the provided plush robes and slippers add a wonderful touch of luxury. The living area is equally impressive, complete with a comfortable couch, ample shelf space, and a kitchen table. There is also a handy little kitchenette equipped with plates, a fridge, and a sink, though it would have been nice to have a microwave included. The bathroom is exceptionally modern and showcases excellent attention to detail. The standout feature is the shower, which boasts a great rain shower head and a handle brilliantly placed right by the door so you don't have to get wet while turning the water on. While there was a slight odor in the bathroom when we first arrived, housekeeping completely resolved the issue after their first visit. We also experienced a small leak from the kitchenette sink when we turned it on, but maintenance came up promptly and fixed it without any hassle. One of the most delightful perks of the stay is the breakfast basket service. You simply fill out the menu--which includes great options for those with dietary restrictions--leave it hanging on your door handle at night, and a fresh breakfast is delivered straight to your room the next day. We also made sure to utilize the on-site spa, which was very nice and offered a fantastic massage experience. We signed up for an 80-minute session, though because we booked online, it wasn't entirely clear if a couples massage was an option. Upon checking in, the front desk graciously made us aware of a minor leak in the changing room and locker area, which we appreciated. Despite these few minor maintenance quirks, the staff was incredibly responsive, and the stunning views, fantastic room layout, and top-tier amenities make this hotel a place we would absolutely return to.

Harbor Country Cabins are for those who want to camp, but don't want to do any of the work or sleep in a tent. There are all the perks of camping: serene wooded setting, grills and patio with furniture to dine al fresco, and a bonfire pit (we didn't even have to build the fire.) Then there were added bonuses: screened in porch complete with mason jar lighting and fan, koi pond with lily pads and bull frogs to ease you into sleep, your own clean modern bathroom with plush towels and nice showers, a kitchen with any utensils you may need. This place is seriously unreal with quaint, calm vibes. I left feeling incredibly refreshed, and immediately wanting to book another stay. Dogs are welcome here, and mine seemed right at home. She quickly figured out how to let herself out of the screened porch, and was happy to explore the cabin. Also it's within a 15 minute drive from the Grand Mere State Park with a dog friendly beach. This place is excellent for groups, since the price is very reasonable if you have 4-6 people stay in a cabin. I recommend Harbor Country Cabins to anyone looking for a short summer respite.

There are 5 cabins sitting in a cauldesac, great for a family reunion, or group getaway. Each has a kitchenette (fridge, microwave, coffee pot, sink. The Acorn cabin had a 3/4 size fridge but the smaller cabins like Driftwood had a mini fridge. The cabins seemed to be maybe on the newer side, very well craftsmanship of the cabin itself- true log cabin! Even the upstairs wasn't squeaky and felt very sturdy! Each front porch was adorable and good to gather at night and each had a fire pit outside. Note: the Driftwood and The Hideout really are only meant for two adults and 2 kids. The "loft" is climbing a folding up ladder (very sturdy and solid, but somewhat like climbing into an attic) where you crawl into a loft that has space only for 2 mattresses on the floor. Kids would enjoy it (but maybe be scared to coming down), but very small if another adult wanted to use it. Also note the bathroom is in the bedroom for these 2 cabins. A few improvements could have been made to the interiors. All the furniture and decor seemed to be very old. While still functional, they just looked, smelled, and felt like they'd been used for a very very long time. A bit unusual since it did seem like the cabins were newer! The other thing to know is these are not back of the woods. You are right of the main Street and can hear cars go by. If you want seclusion and peace these may not be for you. The worn wood floors, heavy oak doors, and humble, mismatched old furniture are part of the charm. On the rainy fall weekend I came, their rates were lower than the nearby Baymont and Holiday Inn Express. The place was quiet and cozy. The lobby is quite nice and inviting. I stayed in room 2. It had a fridge and microwave, individual-room temperature control (which some of these old inns don't have), no TV (ok with me, and helped insure against noise from adjoining rooms), ceiling fan, and a little outside porch. The bathroom was very clean, though the baseboards and corners of the room itself were dusty and needed attention. Bed was average/ok, not luxury but not awful. Pillows were thin and could have been nicer. The innkeepers on duty as well as the people I emailed at various times before coming were all helpful and accommodating.
