Dr. Tang is a gem in Oakland Chinatown - he's the latest in a long line of traumatologists (in…read moreCantonese "Tiet-Dah") who learned how to treat injuries from his father, who learned it from his father, back a couple of generations! Turns out his dad has his own clinic a few doors down! Simon trained in Hong Kong, lived here for a couple decades and thus speaks Cantonese, Mandarin, and English pretty fluently. He is great at what he does and charges reasonably for what he can accomplish. Today's visit for my chronic neck injuries lasted about 30-40 minutes (I didn't keep track of time but it was less than an hour) and involved some history taking, examination, education on specific exercises I could do for wrist and shoulder injuries, then a focused deep tissue massage, and application of a heated herbal poultice. Dr. Tang has a great bedside manner and is focused (he massages each tenderpoint for 1-3 minutes, on a timer). All this for $80. He's much better than the Tiet-Da doctors I went to in Hong Kong. In general, daily treatment for acute injuries can get you better within a few treatments (depending on severity) and longstanding chronic injuries typically resolve with daily treatment for about three weeks. I've had some promising results, I will be back tomorrow!

I had been experiencing persistent back discomfort and related symptoms that were impacting my day-to-day well-being. Her acupuncture treatment really hit the spot and eased a lot of tension. Through her thoughtful treatments, she's helped me find real relief and ease. She is incredibly thorough, kind, and comprehensive in her approach. Each session feels tailored to what my body needs in the moment, and she always takes time to explain what she's doing and why. I deeply appreciate her ability to combine technical expertise with genuine care and attentiveness. Beyond the treatments themselves, Candise creates such a warm and supportive environment. She listens closely, is easy to talk to, and makes sure you feel comfortable throughout the process. I highly recommend her to anyone navigating symptoms that are affecting their quality of life and looking for compassionate, effective support.

What makes her so great is how empathetic and thorough she is. She didn't just stick a few needles in and walk away; she actually took the time to figure out exactly what was contributing to the nerve issues. She used acupuncture to release the muscles in the entire surrounding area, and the relief was almost immediate. It was like she knew exactly where the tension was hiding before I even pointed it out. Candise has become a stable in my self-care routine. Whether it's a specific injury or keeping my body in balance, she's incredibly attentive and makes the whole experience feel super relaxed. She's an active listener and possesses an incredible diagnostic eye.

I was shocked when the staff said "the doctor's diagnose is free. You pay for the medicine." They have been operating like this for 30+ years. I have been trying to find an experienced Chinese medicine doctor for my mother in law for more than 5 years. She has stomach imbalance which affected her high blood pressure, diarrhea, sweating, dry throat and a whole list of symptoms due to her imbalance. Previous doctors charged per visit for consultation and charge additional for herbs. It's quite expensive. Not only did I find a knowledgeable doctor, he gives his service for free! This doctor is the real deal. He is very knowledgeable and no bs. The best thing I appreciate the most is, if the herbs has an unintended reaction, I bring it back to him. He can identify which herbs caused the reaction and switch out the herbs to suit your body. Traditional Chinese medicine is a very slow progress treatment. It's really tailored to each person and their reaction to herbs. So if you choose this path. You must be patient. This shop can be super busy at times. During patient's consultation, he does run out to help with cashier or pick medicine for customers in the front of the house. Please be patient with him, he listens to you even though he look's distracted. Some times he is starving before he stops to eat. This whole store is very valuable to the community. I cannot express how grateful I am to find this store. I hope people who wants to seek help using traditional Chinese medicine will find this store and enjoy good health and reasonable cost of herbal medicine. Good Karma.

I have 4 sessions scheduled and after two I have less pain!…read more So glad I read Jerom Vahai's Yelp story on this practice! She explains the process clearly. She noted my complaints and asked questions to clarify. She made a plan based on my issues, she also checked my heart, lung, liver health. My insurance pays for a portion of the treatments. Happy to be coming here, I have hope to become healthier and get rid of my hip / back pain. She also made suggestions to help with the congestion in my throat.

Also I had…read morechronic injuries/pains resulting from training for long-distance triathlons (Ironman; an 140.6 miles race) on my right shoulder and the right side of my back. Tina's treatment has been amazing! To the point that she has earned a nickname in my household - "the Magician with Needles"! Details of my condition: (1) Injury: something dropped on my left foot. As it happened right after my Ironman World Championship race, I did not care - I was not doing much of my training. I thought that the pain would disappear by itself. Then months passed, and the pain persisted. Moreover, I realized that the NERVES on my left foot are a LITTLE NUMB. So, when I tried to run a higher mileage at my tempo pace, my left foot was less responsive after a 6-7 miles. Also, TAKING STEPS the following few days were quite difficult. (2) Chronic pain: I almost entirely breathe on one side while swimming, especially if I am doing long difficult sessions. Also, when I am holding the aero position on my time-trial bike, I inadvertently tighten one side of my upper body - this becomes especially true if I am doing hard intervals and/or doing more than 2-3 hours of training. Consequence: chronic dull pain on my shoulder and my back. This results in debilitating pain during later phases of a race. This was seriously hampering my sleep after long rides (which is bread-and-butter for Ironman trainings). Treatment: I had gone through extensive acupuncture treatments before the pandemic for chronic pains - thanks to my health insurance! They worked, but the results were not even close to Tina's treatments. I went to Tina, in the beginning of Dec, 2022. After three sessions, my foot injury was completely solved! In fact, after the very first session, I was incredulous with the results! The same goes for the chronic pain on my shoulder - that I have been living with for several years now. That too was gone! I was very confident that as I start doing "red mist swim sessions" in new years, the shoulder pain would come back - it kind of did, but only to 10-20% intensity compared to what it used to be. And that was relieved after one session with Tina in Jan, 2023. Now, she has started working on the chronic pain on my right lower back - and I am experiencing her magic already. In summary, my condition was a sudden injury and one from muscle overuses from sports. Tina's acupuncture treatment resolved both issues unbelievably well (better than physios and sports massages).
