That was the whirlwind scene not two minutes into us walking into All Lacrosse and one of my kids - completely new to the sport and in need of everything - must've felt. The three staff (two teen workers, along with the owner - one of the nicest people you'll ever meet) snapping this, checking that, wiggling this here and waggling that there.  The All Lacrosse staff are zealots with one mission: making sure each and every person that comes into the shop will love the sport as much as they all do. And the entire time my youngest was getting transformed into a future star collegiate player (when you've got twins of course you're always praying for a scholarship in the near-future!) people of all shapes and sizes were coming in and there was an amazing sense of community - strangers immediately striking up conversations and sharing war stories of when they were young and played the sport and now their kids were taking it up.  (Note to self: "cup check" sounds mighty painful if you actually forgot to wear your athletic cup!) You'd be surprised just how much this tiny shop actually has (the cleats might be the only thing you'll have to find elsewhere) - and your heart might skip a beat because this is not a cheap sport, lemme tell ya. We were in and out in probably twenty minutes with a large bag that would rival Santa's.

The quality is superior to any other supplier we have tried. Our uniforms arrive perfect every year and this is because of the owners', Howie and Michelle, personal touch. It is a family owned business and the service is unbeatable. I am able to place 140 uniform orders with so many updates and changes because they care and are patient. If a customer, the parents of our players, has an issue or question, Howie has an answer. Each year, we have an End of the Season party and Howie brings a few employees and strings lax heads for the kids and raffles off a free lax head. He is very generous with his time and we will continue to be his customer. We also recommend the storefront location. Howie and his staff are so knowledgeable in lax and the gear. They can answer all your questions and provide gear that suits your player. They have great starter kits at reasonable prices for the new kids and high quality gear to invest in for the dedicated laxer.

I thought I lucked out because it seemed like a 'cheap sport' (especially after having to buy full lacrosse kits back in the day) - what do you need besides what you already have, right? Wrong. Not only do you need top of the line kicks but you can only really get 'x' amount of miles on them before they're considered 'done' (even if they don't look bad/old/used to the untrained eye). Which is why/how we found Fleet Feet. And before we could even scope out the entire (small) shop we had a clerk helping us out and were immediately smitten (with the professionalism, options/choices, the 'student discount' - every little bit helps, let's be honest - you name it). For a guy that grew up on nothing but Converse low-tops and adidas Sambas (neither was over $50 a pair, and lasted for years!) - I'm relying on my kids' expertise and commitment to all things running that Fleet Feet have earned their PR (look at me trying to pretend to understand what my kids are always yapping about after a race) of 5-stars.

As a small, family-owned businesses, you truly feel their efforts in building community and making their customers feel like they are part of the family. I've only been to two events with them (a trail and pancake run) and I already feel like I am part of the Fleet Feet fam. And I know this feeling is shared by so many people as I can tell how well-loved they are by those in their community. I also love shopping here-- their staff is very personable and you really feel like the staff are knowledgeable about their products. Most of all, they just exude passion for running, which is motivating and contagious!

(So it's only fitting - and long overdue! - that there was a proper soccer store reigning in West Hudson.) I was legit shocked just how much stuff they have here. I walked in assuming "small shop, small inventory" but I was completely wrong. From shorts to a slew of balls (of varying sizes and clubs/countries) to jerseys (representing every major league around the globe) to sneakers/cleats to jackets to an entire wall supporting local teams (Thistle, Kearny and Paisley Athletic) even a "Ref's Corner" where you can pick up the dreaded yellow/red card set. And a really interesting feature (I hadn't seen before) - there's an enclosed "mini-makeshift pitch" that looks like little kids could go and run around to play a bit of soccer and/or you can try your new sneakers to see how they'd actually feel on turf. (I also eyed up a pretty sweet foosball table but I'm not sure if that was for everyone or just the staff while on break.) The owner is a great guy and the staff were phenomenal... they offered help but weren't pushy. They were excitedly talking about soccer teams/matches amongst themselves and when we went to the counter they couldn't have been more energetic or welcoming. (They were even good sports when I ribbed them for not stocking any AS Roma merch... just yet.) Roughly two miles from the Red Bulls Arena. About a mile from 'The Courts' in Harrison. Half-mile from the Kearny Scots Club. Soccer Town, USA (one of Kearny's official nicknames) now has a FIFA-approved (okay, I just made that part up) outpost where you can pick up pretty much whatever you need to get out and about for some footie. Granted - parking can be a nightmare but that shouldn't deter you from swinging by to check out what's what. "Chips on!"
