Happy Wok is a an OK spot for Chinese food here in Waco. I wasn't crazy about it and won't be back for more, but for what it's worth... It was ok food. The location has that "hole-in-the-wall" feel. The interior is super clean. No music, no tvs, and lots of awkward silence and yelling in the kitchen. Staff is quick and to the point, no suggestions or witty conversation - that's fine, I'm hungry. Lemon chicken was heavily breaded. Pork fried rice was more rice than anything. Dumplings were half hot and half cold, but tasty. Egg roll was very hard, nothing memorable. All in all, ok. Not great. Not amazing. But ok. It's like a one-night-stand you wish you could undo, so you never ever speak of it again. read more

Best Americanized-Chinese place in Waco! Worth the trip when the craving for lo mein strikes. Would also recommend the fried chicken wings.

Been craving Chinese for months. Decided to try them out and the sesame chicken is the absolute bomb!

Best traditional American-Chinese food in Waco, Texas. Period. And I have been searching a LOOOoooong time around these parts for a place to call good, hell, even decent would suffice, but low and behold, an angel appeared and sent my butt on over to Happy Wok! Huge variety on the menu. Hot food, cooked upon ordering. Large, clean area to sit and enjoy your food. Or wait for it. I have tried multiple dishes here and all have been good. No delivery, but it's worth the drive. The Asian lady that works (maybe owns the place??) works her arse off!! She is the real deal! I have been told the sweet tea is some of the best in town. I am not a sweet tea gal, but I have had multiple people swear on it. Downsides?...And this is my $.02...the hot and sour soup is too vinegary (not sure that's a word) and the meat to vegetable ratio favors vegetables more than meat. But again, those are my personal preferences and are not used against the score. Please do not waste your time on some of the other establishments in town that don't know what they are doing. Everything...every - single - thing...I've tried on their menu is delicious! Moo shu pork, roast pork & broccoli, sweet & sour chicken, beef lo mein, friend dumplings...all of it is so good. One thing...while the service isn't exactly friendly, it's not unfriendly either. What they are is unflaggingly efficient, which makes up for any lack of friendliness. Another local American-Chinese fast food restaurant located in North Waco. This place was a nice little find as they serve dishes more reminiscent of actual Chinese/Hong Kong style dishes compared to other "Chinese" places in Waco. I have enjoyed their fried chicken wings, seafood delight, mapo tofu, and fried rice. All of the meals were tasty and quite delicious but not the best I've had; I would say best for Waco but not outside of Waco. They offer a wide selection in their menu and the prices are quite reasonable as per portions. The only reason I would frequent this place is because they're the only ones in Waco that have decent fried rice with slices of Chinese-style roasted pork. If you want Chinese food I would recommend this place first and Chop Stix as second. Side note: Happy Wok's location can be intimidating to those who are less familiar with North Waco territory. But that should not deter you from actually trying out their food! read more

We love Happy Wok! We always do take out. Usually after you call it's ready in 20 minutes. The entrees are huge. We get a pint of soup, 2 entrees and an order of cream cheese wontons. I wish I'd seen what was going on next door before I ordered my food to go. An empty store with a ton of dead roaches inside. When my food was ready I paid and took it but didn't eat it because my guess is that it was prepared in a kitchen that also had roaches. Hate to waste food but I didn't want to get sick. read more

First time here! I agree with other post that it's the best in Waco! Kung Pao chicken was very good, you get a lot. Hot and Sour soup was tasty as well. Ice Tea was served in a large plastic to go container, lid was a challenge to get off. No ice. Very clean inside, very plain. I will go back for sure! read more

The guy that answered the phone was extremely rude, could not communicate in a way you can understand. The first time I called I didn't have a menu in front of me and so I asked "do you carry fried scallops" he told me "no we don't have those" I asked so y'all don't carry fried scallops? I swear I've ordered them before." He says "no we don't have those. You have menu in front of you?" I said "no I'm driving right now. But I swear I've ordered them before" he said "no sorry good bye" and hung up. I then pulled over and pulled yelp up and found the menu and right there under specialty items number A2 is fried scallops. So I called back and when I finally got someone it was the same guy. I said " hey I got the menu now, I was wanting some fried scallops specialty item A2." He said " I already tell you we are out of those." I said "no you told me you didn't have them and implied they weren't on the menu." He then said no I already tell you we run out of those, we don't have those. This the second time you call we don't have." And hung up. I just don't know. I only called because they are the only place in town that carries the fried scallops and my wife wanted some fried scallops. Other than that I wouldn't order from there anyway. It's a Sh** hole and it's not very clean there. Won't be going/calling back. If your going to be rude you at least have to have some really good food in a location that doesn't look like it's close to being condemned. read more
