There's a good mix of restaurants, clothing, and jewelry shops, most of which are high quality brands and the mall constantly stays fresh and vibrant although I do wish they had more restrooms outside of the ones below Industrious. Some weekends they have a maker fare or live music, but most of the time the fountain is just central to the comfortable seating area, that during the winter gets some decor for the holidays. All in all, I really do love this area and still find myself coming back year after year.

There was a period of time when I probably shopped at Broadway Plaza 1-2 times PER MONTH (now I'm stuck paying off my credit cards but that's my own fault and a separate issue). What was wrong with the old system? It worked just fine. But now you have to download an app to get out of the parking garage, EVEN IF you were there for less than the three hours of courtesy parking. It's absolutely insane. And even worse, there's NO cell reception in the garage (at least with AT&T) so you can't download the app without returning to the open air mall. Maybe that's why they changed things up? So that for people who haven't been to Broadway Plaza since before the app was rolled out, they might be able to charge for more time? It's unbelievable. And... you have to enter a bunch of personal information. Why do I need to download an app to pay for parking after I've already shopped at the mall, potentially pushing one of the tenants over their percentage rent breakpoint? It's outrageous. I don't mind having the ParkMobile app for parking because it allows me to park on many different cities' streets with little to no hassle. So I'm not anti-parking app. I am anti-Metropolis parking app. At least before, you got a time-stamped ticket so you knew exactly when to leave if you wanted to avoid paying. Now you have to remember to check the precise time you entered the garage, assuming it's even time-stamping accurately. And how do you know precisely where it time-stamps you? Macerich, do better. I've been to other places up and down the street and this is the only one where you have to pay! And they have one store, so I only pay for 15 minutes or so. But what a waste! I'd pay for a couple of hours and spend time bouncing from shop to shop, but that won't happen beecause everytime they get another shop of note, it closes down. This is an old school plaza and I want to like it more than I do. I wish they updated themselves, like El Cerrito Plaza. They have some of the same buildings, but built others. they have also updated their offerings and when something closes, another quality store joins them.

One of the things that frustrates me with Walnut Creek is parking, and that issue is not nearly as bad in this downtown. This does not have the traditional feel that other downtown regions have in this area, everything is newer and the older area's of Pleasant Hill are elsewhere. This is a place with shopping, activities, and is right next to city hall. Currently, I've patroned just about every store on Crescent Plaza and am happy with them. The movie theater, coffee, restaurants, etc. This is a great place for a "date night" or if you just want to check out a movie and grab pizza with a group of friends.

We found two dresses that she liked and wanted to try on. I walked up to the counter and asked if someone could unlock the dressing room door. There was an Asian lady on the phone and a young Hispanic lady checking out a customer. Eventually the Asian women turned around and said she would unlock the door. She stood at the dressing room doorway while my daughter tried on her dresses. My daughter needed help zipping up her dress and wanted me to see how the dresses fit. Every time the dressing room door opened the worker turned around and watched us, making for an uncomfortable experience. My daughter got dressed and came out, as we approached the doorway of the dressing room entrance the lady immediately started reaching for the dresses and asked which one we were buying! I told her can we think about it first and why are we being rushed?! I said a matter of fact why were we being so closely watched? She immediately lied and said she watches everyone when they're in the dressing room. That was a complete LIE! I mentioned that she wasn't watching the other two ladies that were in the dressing room when I came to ask for a room. My daughter immediately said "that's ok mom I no longer want to buy a dress here!" She and I felt extremely uncomfortable and definitely rushed. Some would say it's because of so many thieves that they are on a high alert but I'm not buying that...the other women were Hispanic and we are BLACK! It's so unfortunate and disgusting that people behave this way. Racially profiling us and then lying about it! I will NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN!!!!

The salesperson would not accept the return or exchange because the shirt "didn't look familiar" to her. Umm, excuse me...? I returned the shirt in the Lafayette store and the salesperson said that what I was told in the Orinda store was completely untrue and inappropriate. All returns are accepted within 30 days with a receipt. Would that have happened to someone of a "lighter hue"? I doubt it... Yes, I'm a Black woman. Needless to say I will never frequent McCaulou's again.
