What a relaxing Sunday in Pleasant Hill
    Andrew S.

Okay, I have lived in the area since 1975, and I remember what "downtown" Pleasant Hill used to be like. While I miss the Grand Auto, this new shopping area has finally grown on me. The restaurants have gone from interesting to dirty and now back to "worth making the trip" to. I know this is not a foodies place, but my girlfriend and I always enjoy going to either Daphne's, the Corner Bakery or to Pomodoro. And it's really cool Zachary's is by the movie theater. (Personally I can't each those deep dish pizzas anymore lol). I am not sure if you all know, but the Michael's offers (very inexpensively) classes in cake decorating and other arts and crafts. My gal loves them and has become a cake making champion. Be really patient as the parking lot can get full of angry drivers. I always head to the back by Ross or Michael's. If you are more eco friendly the CCTA busses will drop you off in the back by City Hall (even from BART). Its less crowded than Walnut Creek but really nice on a pleasant afternoon.

    Sunset very nice weekend

Nice, quaint downtown area with a nice selection of shops, a theater and some nice places to eat. Need to be expanded, as it is small.

This mall has so many jewelry stores, it's crazy! there's even a barber shop for men on first floor which was different. There's a JC Penny here and like walking around bring back old memories of stores I grew up with with Spenser, Sweet Factory store for sour patch kids candy, Hallmark, and life uniforms. I felt their food court had a strange layout as on first floor all their sweets where there and 2 main food places sushi and newly open Mexican in the mall. I know outside has the yummy BJs and Fusion Buffet. Yes, nice mall to visit and they have a Macys here with the perfume dept working the floor very hard. Perfume is quite expensive!

I don' t know if this mall is ever packed and it's not totally the mall's fault - buying stuff on line has really killed the brick-and-mortal stores in general and I get it. But holy smokes, the stores here - it's multiple variations of the same crap stores. Who buys this stuff? There are some stores that I absolutely cannot believe make enough money to stay open. They have to pay rent and employee salaries and make some sort of profit and you wonder how it's possible. If you go here and look around, you'll know what stores I'm talking about. I was walking around here yesterday was just amazed at the absolute garbage stores. One "kitsch" store (and there are many) proudly displayed some poster about "stupid people" by its entrance that you could buy - for people to buy to make fun of stupid people - yet literally the only people who would buy this are the people it makes fun of. And you can't walk into these stores because the second you do the employee is on you. Like Blockbuster where every employee had to greet you and see if you need anything. I just want to look around without being bothered but it's not possible in these stores. They have so little people in them, when an employee does get someone they hover. You do still have some good stores - Macys of course, an old standby with good stuff - you can't go wrong with a Macys. Even JC Penneys is still here (I didn't even know they were still around). The Sears finally went out and to no one's surprise, they couldn't care less about that store for years now. I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. And the clientele walking around. You have your people of all ages and races which you want to see. California is represented well at this mall and I like that. And of course your thugs always wasting time walking around - disturbs me seeing these guys. I guess the mall can't do anything about them but yeah, they're here. On the plus side, the mall is super clean. I'd like to hope that this mall, one of the malls I've been to for decades will still be around for a long time but honestly, if this thing still exists in three years I'd be shocked.

During this time of year (November), there's also an ice rink that lots of people seem to enjoy. Some family wanted to go to Sephora and man it was packed! Which is not surprising, since we were there on the busy shopping day of the year. I got to do some other browsing at J Crew. It was a short trip overall, but I can easily see people spending hours here if they needed to do some serious shopping. Came here with family because they wanted to do some shopping on Black Friday. Some drivers obviously getting impatient based on their rapid acceleration and sudden braking whenever it appeared that someone was approaching their vehicle or stepped on their brake pedal. From what little we observed, there is a very good mix of business present which is great to see. So many other destination shopping areas are suffering vacancies and closed businesses. I imagine that parking is not such a mess during the day or perhaps on weeknights and yes, this was the day after New Years so more people were probably out and about. Still, had I really understood what the parking situation was like, I would have made reservations for another night. And it wasn't any better when we left at 7pm either.
