Hardshell Three Taco Plate
Amanda C.

Happy Taco near the USC campus is a pretty solid spot if you're in the area and craving Mexican food. The neighborhood itself isn't exactly the most glamorous, but they've done a nice job making the space feel inviting. There's a small patio dining area if you want to sit and enjoy your food. One little detail I loved: the chips have this fun, jagged edge that makes them feel like they were cut special -- a small touch, but it stands out. The birria was also very tasty, flavorful without being overly oily. The carne asada was also really good -- juicy, seasoned well, and cooked just right. The chicken, though, was kind of forgettable; not bad, just nothing special. Food was very delicious but unfortunately there was a bit of a hiccup with our order. They misheard me at first, so when they brought it out, they had to swap to hardshell tacos and then charge me a bit more. Even after that, the dish still came out with the guac sauce on it, even though we had asked for it on the side when we ordered. At that point, I didn't feel like sending it back again, so we just rolled with it. The hard shell taco was surprisingly sturdy and thick, not greasy at all, and had a nice crunch to it. Service was friendly, though the mix-up did slow things down a bit. Overall, it's not a perfect experience, but still really hit the spot.

What they call scrambled eggs
Keila Z.

I ordered a burrito with scrambled eggs instead of a fried egg, and they completely messed up my order. When I politely pointed it out, the employee gaslit me and claimed the fried egg in my burrito was "scrambled." I literally had to pull up Google Images to show her what scrambled eggs actually look like. Instead of apologizing or correcting the mistake, she acted like I was inconveniencing her. No offer to fix it, no refund--nothing until I insisted. And even after making me wait another 30 minutes (mind you, I was the only customer there around 12:10 p.m.), they handed me back the exact same thing. When I asked to speak to a manager, she said the manager wasn't there and refused to give me a contact number. This is some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced. No accountability, no effort to make things right, just pure attitude. If you enjoy being disrespected, waiting 30 minutes for a wrong order, and arguing just to get basic service--this is the place for you. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and go literally anywhere else.

Carne Asada Breakfast Burrito
Katherine B.

Update: I ended up getting food poisoning from here. Originally I gave this 3 stars, but this was severe food poisoning and I know it came from the carne asada. I am really disappointed because the quality of the carne asada was so bad. Truly the worst carne asada I've ever had. It was grisly, hard, and really not enjoyable to eat. But the rest of the burrito was fire! I LOVED the hash browns inside!! I think if I had gotten a different meat, I would be saying this is one of the best breakfast burritos I've ever had. But since the meat was that bad, unfortunately I can't. The burrito is also a great size! The salsa it came with was really good too, and the chips were nice and thick. Maybe try a different type of meat.

Good Mexican at affordable prices. My order came with chips and they were nice and crispy. Wish the burrito had more meat. There's street parking & back lot parking as well.

Burrito Bowl

It's acceptable. I tried the chilaquiles my partner had the breakfast burrito bowl. Pricing is adequate for the food and service was pretty prompt. Small place I didn't dine-in so idk how the atmosphere is inside. Overall and all in all it was okay.

Shrimp Fries
Nathalie R.

Had a craving for shrimp fries, like nachos but with fries instead of chips. This was the only place in ktown that I could find that sells them. We had the shrimp fries, two asada tacos and a horchata. I highly recommend the fries, but ask for them to substitute the nacho cheese for real grated cheese. The service was great, I ordered before I got there and it was ready to go by the time I picked up. They have a small outdoor patio where you can eat and it looks very clean. I took my food home though because it was cold out.

Sausage Breakfast Burrito

A good take out spot with a patio for dining. I have a breakfast burrito there twice. Both times the burrito didn't miss. Hot, tasty and filling with a protein, fluffy egg, cheese and hash brown inside. The tortilla chips that give you with your order are perfectly crispy and crunch and fresh. There are also creative takes on the breakfast burrito including a chilaquiles burrito and even a torta. If you go before 11 a.m. you get free coffee.

Chilaquiles verdes
Zoe T.

So sad that they don't have fried plantains anymore (because that was what made their Mayan breakfast burrito the best), but the food is still good! I used to frequent this place back when I lived in Koreatown because they were the only Mexican restaurant with food that I would crave. Parking is still a pain around here but hopefully you come when they have an open spot in their back lot (or else you gotta go searching for some street parking). You still order at a small window in the front and then if you are going to dine-in, they have a small covered patio on the side that you have to be let in through a small locked gate to sit at the tables. We ordered chilaquiles verdes (tortilla chips coated in salsa Verde and topped with cheese, raw onions, cilantro, eggs) that day because I haven't had chilaquiles in many years. Oh my god they were so flavorful and delicious--a little strong in flavor (salty and sour) so it pairs well with the rice, beans, and eggs. The chips were still lightly crispy despite being coated in the sauce, and it was worth having onion breath for the rest of the day. I would definitely try their chilaquiles again with salsa roja next time. I recommend the mole and tinga tacos in addition to the chilaquiles! Will definitely be back whenever I am craving Happy Taco again

Pretty bummed the last time I came here. Ordered the super fries and nachos with carne asada. 1. The portions have gotten smaller within a few months. 2. They reheated the carne asada. That's a big NO NO!! And I've been here many times that their meat is always fresh. NOT this time. I don't know if it's the cook. They didn't have any sales that day. Or they want to use the meat from the day. I got the food around 5pm. You would think it would be fresh for dinner time. But yup that's my sad story of this place. Maaaaybe the next time I go for a breakfast burrito and nachos the meat will be fresh. I am paying for freshness. This time they added the green pickled sliced jalapeños peppers. That was not there the last few times I got it. Must be something new or they wanted to get rid of it. It didn't taste good. Tasted like spoiled But I will say good service. Oh and on another note they didn't have the churros for the Yelp check in. maybe next review will be better since this is my fave place to get a breakfast burrito.

Breakfast menu

I've been here before but never tried their breakfast menu. It came highly recommended from a family member. There's numerous options for breakfast burritos, including Regular Breakfast Burrito and SUPER BREAKFAST BURRITO. My son and I went with the 3 little pigs Super Burrito. It comes with Bacon, ham, and sausage with grilled bell peppers, onions, and guacamole. My wife got the Mayan burrito and loved it. This might be my new breakfast spot.

After hearing the buzz for way too long, I finally made my way over -- and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The menu is a carnivore's dream. We're talking carne asada, lengua, brisket, and a whole roster of meats that had me doing multiple laps before I could even commit to an order. Every bite was bold, juicy, and packed with that authentic flavor that's impossible to fake. And the prices? Completely reasonable. No sticker shock here -- just good tacos at a fair price, which is honestly rare these days. But here's the kicker: they're open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Midnight taco craving? Covered. Post-concert hunger? Handled. Living in Hawaii, I'm constantly reminded that late-night taco options are tragically limited back home -- and Avenue 26 is the standard I didn't know I needed to set. Will I be back? Absolutely, without question, 100% yes.

I was able to snag two tacos for $4.50 that tided me over until dinner time. Now: bring your car because there's no place to sit! I arrived on foot, so dined standing up. Quite a variety of means - I'm a "safe" eater and enjoyed pollo and asada. I loved the self-serve salsas; the green salsa was delish and had a good little kick to it. Happy to have found this spot, and want to come back! 2026: 32/100

For for first timers, I'd recommend ordering the Villa's Trio which is what I got. Those come with the Ranchera Asada quesotaco as well as the Papas con Chorizo and Black Bean con Pollo quesotacos which are a trio exclusive. All the tacos were meaty, flavorful, and crispy. You honestly don't even need the side sauces since the tacos are already flavorful on their own. Great quality. I also got the Watermelon Agua Fresca which was refreshing, tasty, and sweet. Goes well with the tacos. I also got the Jamaica Agua Fresca, but that one was a bit too tart for my liking. The line can get long, so I would prepare to wait for up to an hour on weekends. There's ample free parking at the grocery store lot nearby. For seating and tables, it's limited and competitive. You just have to get lucky if a spot clears up as soon as you get your food. I also like how the restaurant handles crowd control. They allow a couple of people at a time to go inside, order, and get their condiments. You wait outside until they call you for your food. I like that it didn't feel crowded while I was getting my condiments. I highly recommend this spot and I will definitely be coming back.

Having been to so many taco stands, I think what makes Tire Shop Taqueria really stand out are the right-off-the-grill charcoal-grilled meats, the freshly made tortillas literally in front of you as you are waiting on line, and the free guacamole that comes with each taco. The ordering process is like any other taco stand, though one difference is here the salsas/guacamole are all handled by the staff. If you'd like more of something, just ask them instead of reaching for the ladle yourself. There is a separate area though for grilled onions/peppers and radishes you can serve yourself. I got the asada, chorizo, cabeza, and al pastor, and they were all so good. The asada and chorizo are specifically grilled over charcoal, and that flavor really shines through. I loved how meaty and tender the cabeza was too, and the classic al pastor hit the spot. They have large communal tables setup, so it is a great friendly vibe to enjoy your meal I will say, the surrounding area is not the best in LA, especially given how the taco stand is only open at night. The parking lot is quite small, so I parked on a side street that had some abandoned cars, but of course, if you are in/from LA, this is not that new for us. I would hesitate if I am a tourist though to make it out here. Anyhow, the food really is worth it here, and I can't wait to be back!

The al pastor, I think uses a fattier cut than some other places but keeps it from drying out. The tacos were leaking meat juices still. The surrounding streets are quite dark at night but the parking lot the stand is in, is well lit and there is a covered seating area. We went on Thanksgiving weekend and there were maybe always 15-20 ppl in line at any given time. I imagine there are longer lines in the summer.

We've been to the downtown location before and the menu was a little different from what I remember. Hard to find parking sometimes. Only counter seating inside with about six tables outside. Wanted to snack on chips while we waited and there are only two sizes: small which is a bag you would put a sandwich and chips in like when you were a kid taking lunch to school, and a large which was a big bag that you would buy like a part size Doritos with the labels and all. Note to the non-spicy fam: the green salsa is mild with a little heat but the red is definitely spicy so watch out. They don't have pico de gallo. We had an asada burrito which was surprisingly packed and even had guacamole in it. Appropriately sized for lunch so not some monstrosity but it's good and flavorful. We also got an asada quesadilla. It's ok but the cheese is just melted and everything was kind of "wet" still and hard to eat because it just falls apart. Also had an asada taco. Yeah it's good but can't really describe if it was much better than a taco truck. No fountain drinks but got a Jamaica agua Fresca and really felt it was too sweet. Probably just go with a Mexican coke or canned soda next time. Sonoratown is good and worth a trip back as well. They won't compete against taco trucks but sometimes it's nice to just sit down and relax with good food.
