Happy Garden has good quality Chinese takeout food & prices. For my husband and I, we are really picky when it comes to Chinese food in particular because well, our favorite spot is in New York so the standards are set pretty high. However, I will happily say that Happy Garden is our go-to here since it is closest to our house and never disappoint. The staff is friendly and they accommodate special requests on how you'd like your food prepared. The inside of the restaurant is still take-out only. They have majority of the store cut off to where you grab your food through a window cut out but it's quick and efficient that way. It's normally quiet inside and you can see their daughter's drawings all over the plastic divider they have set up. It's quite cute. Happy Garden is located right next to La Parrilla and where Shotz studio and Anytime Fitness closed at, so there's lots of parking now. The food is packaged nicely and it always comes out fresh and hot. My only complaint would be that the dumplings having very very little meat inside of it to where you bite it once and then you're just left with the dumpling shell (no meat). I will still order it though because it's delicious, filling, and satisfies mine and my brother's dumpling crave. OH AND THE FRIED DOUGHNUTS -- AMAZING !!!!! In town for work and needed something close to my hotel in Suffolk. Yelp to the rescue! Happy Garden was right across the street and with great reviews. I called ahead and ordered a small Hot & Sour Soup and the Gen Tso Dinner Combination which is served with Pork Fried Rice and an Egg Roll. They told me they are still "Take Out only" which was fine because I planned on eating back at my hotel room anyway. By the time I walked over, it was ready! The person at the window (see picture) was really friendly and made sure to ask about chopsticks and any sauces. The food was really well packaged and still piping hot when I opened it up. The Hot & Sour Soup was very tasty and full of veggies. They even added a small bag of crispy wontons...yummo! The General Tso Chicken had just the right heat and gooeyness that I love and the Pork Fried Rice was really good as well. Oh, the Egg Roll was nice and crispy too! Found this place by a happy accident. I was hesitant because I have my go to places. After a bad lunch though I wanted something comforting and filling. Thrilled I gave this place a try because it will be my new go to place. The lo mein was so good and I never like lo mein. Fried rice is the best I've ever had on the east coast. The general tso had good flavor and spice. Garlic chicken was spicy, flavorful and full of vegetables. The chicken is velveted nicely and give is the tenderness that melts in your mouth. Sweet and sour pork had a nice coating over the pork. Egg rolls were crunchy, crispy and good flavor. Wasn't a huge fan of the prok wonton, they're not bad but I would try the soup next time. As I'm writing this yelp l im eating so I'm still determining how many stars I wanna leave as of yet!! Now my go to Chinese place in the northern Suffolk area is Peking, but i do like the fried rice at Happy Garden so my family and I decided to switch it up and just order from here tonight. We got the family deal which if you are looking at the price has now gone up which is to be expected. However, we ordered shrimp fried rice, shrimp egg foo young, shrimp lo mein and chicken and garlic for the four meals. Instead of the white rice that usually comes with the chicken and garlic I asked for shrimp fried rice instead. Now when you order separately rice comes with all meals and being that my daughter likes white rice with her egg foo young i didn't even question, i just paid the extra $2.50 for the fried rice I wanted with my chicken and garlic. Long and behold when we get the food there's only one fried rice, so of course I'm like where's the white rice, here's what happened next: The person who answered the phone stated with the four meals you received you only get ONE rice split between all of the meals ordered. Now let's be clear I'm not new to the Chinese food scene but NEVER in my life have I heard of receiving one rice. I'm a strong believer that if you see it in writing it is what it is, but nowhere on this menu did it state the new prices which we didn't mind we were still going to eat but simply the fact that one rice comes in this meal for four. Just let me put it out there Peking would never!! And on that the food was just okay, but i will not be returning and they should learn customer service much better than the guy who answered the phone. That is it that is all!! read more

There are no descriptions of some of the food items. So I googled chow mein and it is a noodle base meal. I ordered chow mein and received what I know as chop suey all based. I have eaten in LA China town and know that chow mein is noodle based. I was told that was different in Suffolk , Chesapeake and VB. Oh well, my loss did not enjoy the food. read more

So I have been going to the Mexican restaurant next door to this Chinese restaurant for a few years and I always see a steady stream of people in and out. I decided today to give it a try and I have no earthly idea why they stay busy. I have to first start off by saying the young man at the counter tried to tell me I ordered something that I didn't. He repeated the order back to me over the phone and when I came to pick up the order he wanted to go back and forth with me about what I order. I order roasted pork Lo mein and vegetable fried rice. The Lo mein was just average nothing special but the vegetable fried rice was the real disappointment. This had to be the whitest fried rice I gave ever seen and the taste was not good pleasing at all. It took me years to visit this restaurant but I can say I will never return. read more

I was a bit leery of trying this place because the average 3 star rating but I was pleasantly surprised by the food. The egg roll was mostly cabbage with bits of pork and fried fresh hot & super crispy on the outside. The General Tso & Bourbon chicken were both very fresh. Good cuts of chicken with the perfect amount of their delicious sauces. The breading on the Tso chicken wasn't an overpowering amount compared to the chicken like some places are guilty of. It wasn't too spicy but you could easily add some of the hot sauce packets they had available if you'd like. The vegetables in the bourbon chicken were super fresh & perfectly cooked. The fried rice had a good flavor & offered a fair amount of vegetables and pork pieces. I only added a couple of dashes of soy sauce. Give them a try. The older bad reviews are just that. Yesterday I ordered a lunch special that was chicken with garlic sauce and steamed rice. After eating approximately 5-6 bites I noticed a piece of hair curled around a piece of chicken. I called the business to let them know and said to the gentleman that answered that I was not the type of person to call a business out on social media that I wanted to give them the chance to correct the mistake. He apologized ( which I appreciated) and said the next lunch special would be at no cost to me. That was nice and the right thing to do. He then offered an explanation saying to most likely was something from the corn in there. I do not believe that, and offered to take a picture and text it to them. Never the less he still offered to correct the problem. Today I called hoping to have a better "Do Over". I could not bring myself to order stir fry so I opted for wings with rice. HERE LIES THE PROBLEM. He actually had the nerve to say there is a difference in price. Really 60 cents? I said are you kidding me. Unfortunately he stuck to his guns .....so I did as well. I decided this was the only solution to that. I will say the owner ( I believe, since I have seen her in the multiple times) called to say he did know. She would do it for me. I said well he knew enough yesterday to offer a replacement but today he all of a sudden had a loss of memory and doesn't know right from wrong. I understand HAIR happens. First, the egg drop soup was just eh. Wouldn't get it again. The fried wonton appetizer is weird. The Bourbon Chicken was good. Veggies were crisp, tasty. Chicken was good cuts of meat, and the sauce was very flavorful...just enough of it. Would get this again. Gen Tso's was ok, but more sweet than spicy. Sweet & Sour chicken was as good as anywhere else. But the rice was awful. The white wasn't good. The friend was strange.....not fresh. No egg in it. Just strange. The best part of our meal was the crab rangoons. They were large and you got a lot for the price. They were hot and wow, the flavor was good. For cheap Chinese food it was good. My review is actually teetering between a 2 and a 3. The food here is decent Chinese. It's one of the newer ones so I tend to go to this one. The white rice is okay, chicken chow mein needs a little more chicken, general tso and orange chicken is good. Today I was disappointed with the service though. I specifically called in an order as I was in a hurry. When I walked in 15 mins later they asked if I wanted it spicy. I was upset to find out that they hadn't even started cooking my food. Yet they ask for your number when you place an order, so they easily could have called me back to ask whether I wanted it spicy or not. Since my initial review back in May of 2015, I have been to this restaurant quite a few times when I feel the need for budget friendly and satisfying Chinese. I do not know these people at all beyond a few business transactions that involved me ordering my food and paying for it but I have to say that I find some of the other reviews tremendously unfair. First, the comments about the kid: Seriously folks, the keyword here is "kid." Like the children of a lot of immigrants, myself included, he is probably working after school and on the weekends to help out his mom. Shockingly, after working umpteen hours a day, this child is tired. Second, there are a few reviewers on here who (albeit it is there perogative) who have given them shockingly low ratings for what they admit is decent food. Third, I have been to the other takeout place three times (the one with 5 stars) and experienced bad service with smaller portions for a less competitive price...and yet they are being rated as perfect...which I simply don't understand.
