Delicious! I had curry shrimp with hot and sour soup. I also had steamed dumplings which tasted home made.

If you're looking for cashew chicken, you can skip this review. I grew up away from Springfield and haven't gained the taste for it, or the similar dishes. Most Chinese food here (probably an issue more of market over-saturation than anything else) is simple, overly-sweetened, and the vegetables (when present at all) are usually limp, over-cooked second thoughts. As much as I love Springfield, it's truly a wasteland when it comes to good Chinese food. Well, behold the oasis. Happy China is the unexpected hero of this town. A small place built into the side of a gas station out in front of a strip mall; it's surprising how much soul this place has to it. The dishes served here have depth, balance. While I'm sure they're still americanized, this speaks more of a legitimate cuisine than a cheap reproduction. Saying all this however, they do still serve the Springfield stand-bys, and you'll get them with your typical shortage of vegetables because we're good americans. But if you instead choose a more traditional dish, you will get a well-prepared dish with a wide variety of not-limp vegetables (this should not be an element of surprise. For shame Springfield) and the meats seem of better quality as well. I am especially fond of their shrimp dishes, as it always seems especially fresh and flavorful. Shrimp with Black Bean Sauce is unbeatable. Especially with an order of dumplings. Every time I go here, and it is often, I am exceedingly grateful for the one decent Chinese restaurant in Springfield. Check them out, they're doing great work! read more

The white sauce is vegan and they have a tofu option for protein. If you don't tell them what kind of sauce they will just put brown sauce which has oysters in it. Customer service is great and they were willing to help me figure out what was vegan. Really great food! Clean environment. read more

I love this place. We've been to many Chinese restaurants in Springfield and this one just keeps us coming back. They are a very nice hardworking family that own it. Food is always fresh. read more

Surprisingly decent. This is an acceptable place to get your fake Asian food fix. All the usual suspects with freshly cooked vegetables. Mongolian chicken and hot pepper chicken were good choices. I also tried the homemade dumplings which were very thick and chewy. I would not recommend them. Willing to come back and try more of the menu. read more

Happy China - Mongolian chicken (left), hot pepper chicken (right), steamed dumplings (yuck...) - Chinese Near Me - Springfield, Missouri

I based this solely off of the cashew chicken. I got a few pieces of chicken that were really chewy and were marginal if they were actually all white meat even though I paid extra for it. The sauce was extremely heavy on the oyster sauce and quite runny! As you can see in the picture. It was not horrible but definitely not the best. Try china wok. Loved that place! read more

Happy China - Cashew chicken and crab Rangoon - Chinese Near Me - Springfield, Missouri

I don't ever write reviews this is my first one. I ordered chicken fried rice and had it delivered by DoorDash. When I received my order it didn't have any chicken in it. I drove to happy China and showed them my order and asked if they can fix it. The lady dug threw the order and found one tiny sliver of chicken and said there is your chicken. I was beside myself that she thought that was ok. I asked if they could fix it or could I at least get something different if that is what they were calling chicken fried rice. She just kept arguing with me and wouldn't stop or correct the order. When did we go from the customer is always right to now arguing with everyone. I left with no chicken fried rice or refund. So not only did I pay extra to have DoorDash deliver my food so I didn't have to leave my house, but I ended leaving anyway and over paying for food I didn't even eat. I had to go somewhere else for dinner. Do not go to happy China. Worsts experience and food in town and the people there are just plain rude. Business need to remember without paying customers you wouldn't be in business in the first place. read more

My fiancé brought leftovers home after work one day, and I got to try a bite of the coconut chicken. To die for! The next week, we went there for lunch, and we split a large order of the coconut chicken and an order of crab rangoons. Delicious! Service was quick, atmosphere was typical of Springfield Chinese restaurants, but the coconut chicken was seriously amazing! The rice was mediocre, but the crab rangoons were great. I'm excited to go back and try more on the menu! Also, it may seem weird that it's attached to a gas station, but it is in its own separate space. read more

Love this place. The food is very well priced and very good to boot. The crab rangoon are some of the best I've ever had. The staff is friendly and the food is made to order. I think one thing that keeps me coming back is a problem for man places and that is consistency. The flavors are great and you always get again the next time you order. read more

Love love love love love love love love love love love love love! This place is my go to Chinese place. The staff is friendly and they are always willing to make the accommodations I need. I recently became intolerant to red meats including pork and they are more than willing to change the rice to plain rice and my egg roll to veggie for me. read more

Best chinese food in town by far. Ive tried almost the entire menu at this point amd everything is amazing! The orange chicken is my favorite, and the crab rangood are incredible. The dumplings are quite a bit different than most other chinese places ive tried, but they are packed with filling and theyre so flavorful. read more

Don't let the gas station location fool you. They have some solid options and consistent quality. I'm a fan of the crab rangoons and coconut chicken. The team is also very nice and provides good service. read more

Happy China is now my official GO-TO restaurant for Chinese food. The General Tao's Chicken was excellent!

Best egg rolls in town and the staff is super helpful on getting you what you want or suggestions on what you may like

Always a hit, I go here way too much but the food is spot on and a great price. The lady up front is always so nice and kind.

Very good food and nice service, their egg foo young is the best in Springfield. I like the chef's special which is really authentic spicy chinese food! I would also highly recommend the stir rice they have, taste so good with the roast pork and fried egg in it. read more

As many review say do not let the fact that it is attached to a gas station fool you. I am from St. Louis and we are known for our amazing Chinese food and for the five years I have lived in Springfield I have never eat it Chinese food from here. Until, I have come across this beautiful place called happy China and their St. Louis style fried rice. The place was clean family fast fresh hot and I will be returning. I got the black and pepper chicken combo and a couple days later I got the garlic shrimp. Both delicious. Also the crab Ragan's were amazing as well -- very sweet and crunchy. read more

We were visiting from Texas and found this place thanks to yelp. We ordered in from our hotel and had it delivered courtesy of grub hub. Very good food! You will not be disappointed. Generous portions, still piping hot upon arrival. Great flavor! read more

We eat here at least once per week! Their coconut chicken, spicy pepper chicken, bourbon chicken, and crab rangoons are the best in town. Best Chinese in Springfield!! read more

I loved this place. This is my second time getting take out from here and neither time disappointed. Very good sesame chicken and crab rangoons. Fried rice was average. Close to my home and work, prices are affordable. Will recommend! read more

Love this place! My favorite Chinese food by far! Too bad it's not buffet but if not having one is their specialty then they must be doing it right. I've never had a bad meal here and the customer service is great. I moved 30 minutes away from it so it's a bummer but I do visit when I can. My usual is the chicken and broccoli w/ crab rangoon. Never dry and love the sauce. Keep up the good work! read more

Do not let the location deter you, once you get inside you completely forget you're attached to a gas station. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and patient! read more

The crab Rangoon is amazing. We switched from a very close Chinese restaurant with apprehension but this place is amazing. Crab Rangoon is a must with any order. This is our new spot. Great food, quick, nice people, and great food. read more

Usually the food is really good here. My mom and I have purchased food here many times and it was always good fresh and plentiful. The last time we got food here we ordered a sweet and sour pork dish, General chicken and a order of wantons. My mom went to pick it up and the bill came to almost twenty five dollars. The food was not fresh as it had been before. Sweet and sour chicken tasted old. Rice was very dry and the sauce on the general chicken tasted horrid. Maybe they were having a off day. I don't know. I may give them another try but it sure wasn't worth the twenty five dollars we paid just to have old food that didn't taste good. read more

I'm originally from NYC so it's been hard for me to find a chinese place as good as back home. it should be simple, most american chinese food is similar but I guess I'm just picky. This place is the closest, definitely one of the best in Springfield. If anyone asks me for a good chinese take out place, i will tell them Happy China is the place to go. read more

I have to admit- this is a very torn review. I will try cashew chicken anywhere in hopes of finding the best in Springfield, because that means it is the best in the US. The cashew chicken here was very good- crispy chicken in a sauce that had just the right thickness but was no where near jello. Sides were pretty basic. Boyfriend had the sesame chicken, which I got a little excited for but of course stuck with my CC. One bite of the sesame chicken nearly sent me into a diabetic coma- holy sugar rush! It was cooked fine, but the sweetness of this dish made it impossible to eat as a full meal. I can't say I recommend that specific dish, but several others on the menu looked tasty and we'll be sure to try them. read more

BEST Chinese in town. Their sauce recipe is the best. When we moved here we were so sad we couldn't find a Chinese restaurant. The "great" Chinese of Springfield, MO aka Canton Inn, is absolutely revolting. How some people think fried chicken strips dipped in salty sauce with added cashews is good and considers that REAL cashew chicken blows my mind. If you really love Chinese food, you have to try Happy China. The food is excellent and service is fast. read more

I'm from the NE and I have not found any Chinese food places in Springfield besides 5Spice that I have liked until I was told about and tried Happy China. The quality of the food is superb. They make the fried chicken how we have it in Boston, with the light batter which I absolutely love. The crab rangoon is comparable to Ocean's Zen but for 1/4 the $. I wouldn't be surprised if the recent 1 star ratings from Milly and Mark might be fake, maybe from competitors since they signed up within a few days from each other and just to leave that one bad review. Anyway, I love this place, and the owners are as sweet as can be and remember my order even if I haven't been in in a long time. read more

Our party of 4 ate here this evening after reading all of the previous reviews left on Yelp and to say the least I was a little disappointed. I had the General Taos Chicken, an egg roll and fried chicken wings. The others had the Mongolian Beef, egg rolls and crab ragoon's. I rate the General Taos Chicken and Mongolian Beef as average at best. Not a lot of flavor good or bad. The wings were again average at best. The egg rolls were above average, and the ragoon's were better then most I'd eaten at other Chinese establishments. I was hoping for something much better then what we got, although the price was below normal. Would I go back? No, probably not. There has to be better in a city the size of Springfield. Sorry, I wanted it to fare better! read more

I am always on the look out for the local specialty regardless of where it is or what type of cuisine it is. An Asian specialty in Springfield? Yup! This unassuming store front restaurant is easy to miss but super easy to get in and and out of - it's part of a gas station plaza. I wasn't offered table service to place my order but - the lady at the counter was friendly and fast. My dinner consisted of the local specialty - Springfield style cashew chicken. It was invented here in my new hometown. The chicken was light and juicy. The breading was crunchy. The brown sauce with the hint of oyster sauce didn't soak the chicken breading but complemented it nicely. My meal consisted of a hearty portion of the chicken, plain white rice (could have has pork fried rice) and two great tasting crab rangoons. No liquor or beer here but that was just fine by me. Come visit here. It's in a gas station plaza - try the Springfield chicken! read more

During a business trip while staying in Springfield, I was in the mood for some Chinese food and found this location. My order was ready in 10 minutes which is pretty reasonable. The prices could be a little lower but the food was great! I ordered the Chef's Special Fivestar meal, crab Rangoon, and fried rice. I was not a fan of the sweet and sour sauce but everything else tasted great and the portions were good. If I'm in town again and want some Chinese food I will definitely be coming back. read more

The food here is amazing. It's obviously ran completely by family and their kids who work the register are very friendly. They pack the food into containers so it's basically like getting two meals for the price of one. read more
