This is my first and only experience with Kings. I ordered food at an event for a friend from…read moreKings based on what she saw others had ordered because it looks great. My friend and I waited and waited for the food. I opened the order when I got it before leaving the window and the lady working the window gave me someone else's food. Thankfully, and the other customer recognized their order and got their food just fine. The lady working the window apologized, gave me a water, and I waited longer. She apologized again and said that they'd bring the food to me. They didn't bring the food and instead gave part of my order to a different friend to bring to me. I went back and asked for the rest of the order. The lady working the window said that she gave me my order. I said no, we only got part of it. She then became unbelievably inappropriate saying that I'm lying, stealing from a Black man business owner, not well, and all kinds of things that were uncalled for because they were paid nearly $40 for the order plus a 20% tip! I told my friend what happened and to do a charge back. I went back again with the partial order to try and explain that this was all that was received. Instead, the woman working the window immediately started berating me, threatening to embarrass me, and other things that were incredibly unhelpful to reconcile the situation. Mind you, I am not the type to act a fool and was at the event representing an organization so at no time did I raise my voice or return the treatment I received from this business. She asked what I wanted her to do and I told her that a refund because I know how chargebacks are bad for small businesses. She said okay and asked for the last 4 digits of the card, so I had to get them from my friend. I went back to my friend to get the numbers, got back in line to give them to her, and I gave them to her. She asked why I kept getting back in line...well, how else was I supposedto get help because that line was the only line. Instead of refunding my friend, the lady shut the window, talked to the owner, and reopened the window and started taking more orders. I got back in line again to find out if the refund had been done and she said that they were not going to refund and there was nothing else that they could do. I told my friend this and she's going to move forward hopefully with the chargeback. Mind you if the order and had been fulfilled correctly, then I wouldn't have had to go back multiple times asking for the order nor would I be writing this negative review. Our other friends who actually got their orders said the food was good, so there's that I suppose. This type of exchange is why so many businesses fail. Simple things like decent service and order management. I was not the only person waiting for an extended period. I was not the only person whose order was messed up. I encourage this business to invest in an digital order taking CMS and not writing things in dark pen on the boxes themselves. If digital order taking isn't possible for now, and that's OK if it is, then invest in guest check server notepads. They are less than $10 on Amazon. The orders can be written on them with customers' names and phone numbers, the bottom can be torn off for customers to have while they are waiting for food, and, in order for a customer to receive their order, they must surrender the torn off portion. Doing something either electronically or handwritten like explained would provide a system for checks and balance instead of relying on someone's memory. Also, consider coaching, retraining, and/or replacing the woman that was working the window today as her behavior is bad for business. She was not able to or chose not to maintain composure, decorum, and handle the pressure of all of the customer traffic. Though I did not get loud, she did get loud with me and other customers saw this every time she did this. That affects business. Her choices and behavior today cost this business vending opportunities with me, my employer, the organization I was representing at today's event, and probably with other customers who saw her disrespect, treatment, and unkindness towards me.

Haha Does this place occasionally lack over the top customer service as in being greeted as soon as you walk in the door and water put down in front of you as soon as you sit? Yes. However, this food is soooo damn good that I'm going to be a good girl until they finally come over. Lol It's not that they're standing around doing nothing....these ladies are working, running back and forth between tables, answering the phone, not to mention how many times I heard the ping of what I think was online orders. Anyway, we visited today (Sunday) and it was quite packed in there. Yes, it took about 10 minutes for someone to come over to us (we sat at the counter) but when we put our order in, it came put pretty fast and piping hot!! My husband had the catfish, slaw and macaroni and cheese. He finished it all! I had the smothered pork chops with rice and gravy and mashed potatoes and gravy. Mmmm carbs....amirite?! These were absolutely heavenly. The pork chop was tender and the gravy was so savory. I saw another review that someone complained the pork chops had bones but girl, that is where the flavor is! You better believe I gnawed on those things. Also, the corn bread...amazing, buttery, moist. I honestly can't wait to come back! Ignore the negative reviews, come here and try it yourself! Be patient and have a little grace with the service, you are going to get a damn good meal.

Tucked back in a small building, just off Southern Avenue, you'll find Southern Fried. It is a small little walk in store front, so plan ahead to order out. We went ahead and ordered online to make things simple and easy. As shown on their building and advertised they show they serve Jamaican food so I was pretty let down when I looked at the menu to discover they do not have any Jamaican food. Seeing pictures of previous Yelp reviews of jerk chicken and oxtail left me bummed. We ended up ordering the fried okra, fried mushrooms, the 2 fish and 5 shrimp combo, along with the fried catfish and fries. We took our food to go and headed home, just around the corner. Once opening the containers i instantly got excited about the mushrooms. Anyone that knows me knows i am mushroom obsessed. With a quick dip in the ranch that came with and popping one into my mouth.... Yummmm! The okra was a bit of a miss. It seems they were still a bit slimy. Moving along to our main courses, I was disappointed to find that our fish was packed on top of our fries and the fries were very limp, soggy and unseasoned. I think packing the takeout differently could easily eliminate this issue. The catfish and shrimp were seasoned to perfection. They both had a perfect blend of spice and a light and crispy batter. I would love to see Jamaican food on the menu, as the advertising is a bit deceptive. Overall I would definitely be willing to try them again and would love to give one of their burgers a taste test.

I was shocked to find out that Missy's has been open since Jan! This is a hidden gem on the south side! Missy's is on the corner of 16th and southern in the smaller street side plaza - the location is a walk up window (I knew immediately I was in for a treat) The lady and gentlemen that greeted me at the window were extremely nice and welcoming and let me know all about the menu. Not sure if they were the owners or not, but I appreciated the friendly service. The menu is robust with a late night weekend special menu (which includes oxtails til 2am) but I had a 1 track mind: CATFISH! The 3 pieces I got were large and automatically came with hush puppies (yum) and a side. The food was done is about 15 minutes but it didn't seem that long - the catfish was piping HOT! I was trying to eat it and cool it off at the same time, I made it all the way home and the food was still hot which I really appreciated. The catfish was crunchy/crispy on the outside and super flaky on the inside- perfect! Both my husband and 13 month old daughter wouldn't keep their hands out my platter! My husband liked Missy's catfish over the food truck that we used to always go to. I already started telling people about Missy's and we will definitely be back!

The texture was a little gritty, but still yummy. The shape is what caught me by surprise. It was round and flat almost like a pancake. The service was outstanding. Friendly and hardworking. The food came out in good time. There is plenty of seating inside and outside. Has a warm but rustic vibe. I would most definitely revisit this spot whenever in the area.

The Nana's Soul plate used to come with more than two ribs, then it was reduced to two, and now it's down to just one unless you pay extra for another. The food arrived about 15 minutes later on a big plate. The chicken pieces had a dark brown crust and were quite good tasting. Not too crusty and with hot and flavorful meat on the bone. The rice and light brown gravy were good and the maque choux looked different from the South Louisiana variety but I still enjoyed it. It had corn, tomatoes, onions and bell peppers in it.
