This is definitely a neighborhood bar cause everyone seemed to know each other. Everyone walking buy was waving to others, even an ex coworker back in the day, I saw... it's been 20 years. This place feels like a speakeasy but with none of that other stuff. All the walls are covered with stuff, lots and lots of stuff. The bar itself looked like it sat maybe 10 people at most. The place didn't feel that big. They do have a pool table and a couple of cute places to sit and have an intimate conversation. They have a parklet and a couple of tables right in front. People were nice but you can tell this place makes strong drinks, they were all pretty tipsy. They do have food, but it's very minimal, and yes it was again just the bartender having to deal with everything. They had small bar items, a small little kitchen, with an oven to make pizzas. They have a great drink menu, the specials are on the board. I had their basil daiquiri and let me tell you! Yum!! It was perfect, had great flavor. Just the right amount of sweetness, made with love. Whenever someone thinks of daiquiri, they think of a mixed, slushy, drink with whip cream.. this is an original daiquiri This place was reasonably priced, about 10 bucks a drink! Dark, moody, a little mysterious, and packed with Chinatown character -- exactly the kind of bar I love. The cocktails are great, the atmosphere is even better, and you absolutely have to try their famous Chinese Mai Tai. Despite how busy it was, the two bartenders were super fast and attentive to everyone waiting to order. Our Mai Tais came in paper cups, which was totally fine given the crowd. The drink itself was dangerously easy to sip but definitely strong. My only complaint is that there isn't a ton of actual drink in the cup--by the end, about a third of it is just ice and pulp. Easiest fix? Always grab two. LOL. Fun spot overall! I'd come back with friends, but probably on a weekday.

I knew the bartender forgot because he served everyone else instead of us. We had to remind him of our order. Probably used to be better 30 years ago…read more Mr. Bing's on Columbus Avenue in San Francisco, CA, offers a textbook overrated bar experience that proves this iconic North Beach cornerstone has unfortunately lost its past luster. Once celebrated as a legendary, gritty legacy dive defined by its iconic V-shaped bar, a dark room filled with old-school neighborhood characters, and a delightfully unpretentious vibe, a recent renovation has stripped away its historic soul. The modern incarnation feels overly sanitized and generic, trading its authentic, rough-around-the-edges charm for bright lighting, basic flat-screen TVs, and a cookie-cutter aesthetic that feels like any ordinary sports bar. Because of its lingering fame on travel blogs, the room is often packed with tourists rather than the colorful locals who used to give it character, resulting in premium-priced drinks and a hollow atmosphere that fails to deliver on its historic reputation. It remains a functional spot to grab a routine beer while walking through North Beach, but anyone chasing the legendary, raw energy of the old San Francisco dive scene will leave feeling a bit disappointed.
