As someone who smokes ONLY hookah, I find this to be the most awesome smoke gadget ever: a glass tube dipped in soapy solution. Exhale your hit through the clean end, through the other emerges a lazily floating bubble that inevitably explodes into magic smokiness. Tiiiiight. Been meaning to review this place for a while. I'm not at all surprised to always see it as #1 in the shopping section of Yelp's Best Of, though I myself rate it #1 not necessarily as a hookah shop, but as a spot to chill out and smoke some shisha. I've been to both Kan Zaman and Nile Cafe numerous times... Sunshine has a much different, less ethnic more hippie vibe. The quality of the shisha, or perhaps the unique way it's served to you, undoubtedly beats that of any of the hookah places I've been anywhere. They use a torch-like thing to heat your coal in the very beginning, and some vacuum-type deal to start off the hookah so that you can bypass the harsh initial tester hits. They mix up some interesting and unique shisha flavors... like Golden Eye. I don't know what the hell is in that stuff, but the head high is great! Also, they're really friendly here and knowledgeable if you wanna buy smoking equipment (not quite my thing, but I've seen them at work!). They give you a little card where after you smoke there 9 times, your 10th bowl is free! Admittedly, I actually like my lungs and have only made it to the third holepunch, but at least I know the option's there, right? The space is a much better-kept and modernized version of your basic Haight street smoke shop. They play cool loungey music. There's I think 3 tables for smoking hookah while in the store, and the atmosphere is really laidback though there's no food or drink available. But really, besides the hookah and glass bubble blower, what else do you need? A must try. read more

Favorites are pointed out. Skittles is a yummy flavor! They keep on coming up with more and more...fruit pez? Lava (mixture of guava, passionfruit, and mango)? Who would have thought. This was my second time at Sunshine Coast and definitely not my last. I strolled up and walked inside where I was given a friendly greeting and given a menu. (A menu?! Hookah bars with printed honest to God menus?) A friend and myself decided upon watermelon which was amazing until Jayson offered us some of his. Which at the time was Lava and that my friends is truely a classic. How do I know that? Because after about an hour with watermelon we decided we also wanted Lava. We had a great conversation with Jay and Charles and the others guys who work there. I forgot their names, but they are just as important. I think we managed to stay there for a solid 4 hours, smoking, bullshitting, and just stayin chill. Listening to Bob Marley and some other mellow stuff. We spoke about family and names all on good terms. The bar was empty when we got there but plenty full when we left. So my girlfriend and I just moved in to the city this week, and we were on a mystic quest to find a shisha supplier. So, I yelped around a bit and found this place. We took the 71 and ended up at the place - and let me tell you, holy crap. In addition to some super-nice owners/employees, the tobacco was unbelievable. We smoked two bowls in their little lounge area and it was such top quality that the buzz was instant and I almost passed out on our way out. I had to sit out on the street and chug some water in order to just be able to stand again. The guy working there came out and offered me some alka-seltzer but I was okay. Really nice guys, clean and cool looking place, very inviting. We'll definitely be coming back. read more

There are quite a few smoke shops in the Haight but this place really is a gem amongst rocks. Great place to smoke some hookah. Owner is a cool, laid back gent and allows you to bring in alcohol from outside. Chill vibe with music playing in the background. Doesn't get too loud so it's great for conversations. Great selection of flavors and decently priced. There's also quite a selection of smoking paraphernalia for those interested in bringing hookah home. Nile has nothing on this place: The seats are comfortable and roomy, and the place is decked out like an upscale college kid's room. Ok, that's too much credit, but the place definitely felt like there wasn't a single inch on the walls that didn't feel like there was something fun or cool to stare at. Shiny, pretty things they were. My date and I got there near closing and they ended up showing the classic 'Deer Hunter' on their small screen. The music was awesome (they were playing dubstep), and the other patrons were pretty down right cool to talk to. On top of that, the folks who run the place were really nice and personable. I knew right then and there, that the place felt like it was my second home, replete with all the comforts of being a couch potato without having to clean up after myself and friends. They're well known for their shisha/tobacco, but ask Justin for the house blend. The minute we smelled our neighbors smoking it, we had to try it. The place is small, so be prepared to wait at a nearby bar for a seat. We went to a bar down the block and downed a few drinks before stumbling back in: "is.. is.. is owur.. ohher.. our seaaaats ready?" hah, no just kidding. we weren't drunk. HOLLA! This place is dope as hell. I was invited here a few nights ago to smoke some hookah, and I must admit that I was thrown off at first because it's really not a "lounge" type of atmosphere. The place is literally a hookah/smoke shop with a few tables in the back. Once I got settled in, however, I quickly changed my mind about the place. Our party started out huge and got even more huge (we ended up having like 25 people in the place at one point) but the staff was still very friendly and laid back about things--and this place isn't big. We tried about 6 different flavors, and although a few of the flavors were kinda bland and tasteless (Pina Colada and Jolly Rancher), everything else was good. At this point, though, I don't really even care that much about the quality of the hookah. The dudes here are just hella cool. We accidentally knocked over one of our hookahs, spilling water all over the floor. They were real cool about it and cleaned it up really fast. An hour later we were all--staff included--huddled around the big screen TV as one of the guys working there showed us funny youtube clips. What else can I say? Oh yeah, they let us bring in beer, and at the end of the night, they basically let us pay whatever amount of money we wanted! Of course, we didn't low ball them. I'm coming back for sure. The only reason I would avoid coming here is if I really wanted to go to a hookah LOUNGE, or somewhere that serves drinks. read more

I never smoke, I don't know anything about hookah or don't even know this kind of store exists. One day while I shopped around the area, hold on...what was this kind of store? When I walked inside, Jason greeted me professionally and nicely, he gave me a tour of store. I really like the smell of this store. It's always in my thought that the smoke shop has to has the smell like cigarette, NO, but it's not. It's like I am in the Victoria's Secret shop :) Really! He was knowledgeable and the store has the large selection of products, the price was affordable. I end up bought some of the flavors from him, no not for hookah. Just to put in my closet. This place is so great. The environment is very relaxed, with a live DJ spinning while you smoke your hookah. The variety of flavors is great, and it goes down so smoothly. The price is really right, and they guys that work there are super nice. I went with my two guy friends on a Friday night. We got there at 5 til 11. They close at 11pm, and the guy invited us in, and told us we could stay and enjoy a bowl as soon as a table cleared up. We took him up on his generous offer. BEST shisha ever. Lemon Mint, ExMango, and Lemon Pez are just a few of my favs. It's a little expensive but if you ask you can get 3 flavors for $15 and its well worth it. The guy who owns the place is very friendly even though I sometimes give him a hard time when I joke with him. I think I've only smoked here once and that was a long time ago so I can't say much about the in house smoking... Except I do remember that he was very attentive to how well our hookah was working which is always nice. This place has the biggest selection in rolling papers in the city, and the highest quality selection of glass pieces anywhere in the bay area. When you walk in, the smell of the flavored hookah smoke takes over, and you're instantly in a euphoric state ready to spend money. Years ago when they first opened, the dude behind the counter showed me a crazy trick. Thanks to him I can now spin a rolling paper on the tip of my finger like an airplane propeller. Any kind of paper you could ever want for your other smoking needs and some great glass pieces. This is where I intend to get my shisha as long as I'm in SF. He even modified a glass piece on the spot when I was trying to decide what I wanted. The shisha is the best around, no competition, and they have TONS of flavors and will try to get a specific one if they don't carry it. This is by far the best HOOKAH shop in San Francisco. I have been coming to Sunshine Coast for the past several years. I have tried every flavor in the place. They offer a great selection of shisha, they have the best and strongest hookahs around. The new lounge is awesome and much more comfortable. this place is great because you can either pick up shisha and go or you can stay and hang in the lounge for as long as you like. Flavors to get: lemon mint, 50-50, exotic mango, french vanilla. as long as you have these flavors in the bowl (especially the lemon mint) you can't go wrong. They are also great at fixing glass if you have problems. Their hookahs also are the best hitting i have ever had. I have owned three hookahs and stopped purchasing after i got my last one from them. I hella heart this shop! I get tons of shisha whenever we come here, and so far, I've bought about 10-12 cups of shisha in the matter of a month and a half. It's that damned good! The staff here knows their stuff. While I don't like the idea of their use of quick light coals (due to the magnesium content), they know how to keep the billows of smoke coming. They use a big ass blowtorch to light their coals. Then they pack the bowls, put the coal on top, and use this nifty handheld vacuum to get the shisha starting.They even watch you smoke and start new coals when needed. If the shisha is burning, they have you blow into the hose to clear the smoke, spray the foil with water to cool it off, then place the coal on top. Shisha goes for about $6 a cup. Hookahs run the gamut of prices. Don't know much about the pipes and other stuff, since hookah is the only real reason we go. Just wish they would sell more accessories, such as the diffusers they use, those little vacuums, and the spinning lazy Susan things. I will be back, and probably soon. read more

When it comes to smokin, these guys don't f**k around! Whether it's a "water pipe" or hookah, these guys seem to have everything you need for a new piece or if you're getting a part for one you already have. Chill little spot on Haight (All you people who spell it "Height" annoy me). You walk into the back, there's some chairs and couches, pretty chill atmosphere. Totally dig the chalkboard with the menu, the artwork is sick. One issue I have with this place is the size, it's tiny. Maybe 10, AT MOST 15 people can fit in there. It's in the back of a smoke shop, which is cool, but I've definitely walked in there a few times during business hours and told they were closed. Kind of strange, but it is Haight so I'll definitely give it a pass. I like this place, but Cairo Nights is WAAAAAAY better. The owner fixed up my hooka for real cheep and hooked up my friend with a pipe he was trying to get. He gave us free shisha to smoke out of my smoke out of my newly fixed hooka and didn't mind sitting down, smoke some hooka and chat about life, hooka, etc. Maybe not the flashist smokeshop on haight but deffinitly one of the chilist. Great hookah selection and space, but I prefer to go to Pork Store on Valencia (mostly out of laziness, since it is right next to my house). Most people don't know this, but Pork Store has a fantastic menu of hookahs and flavors and it is open until 3 am on Thurs-Sun. It also has a full (regular alcohol) bar and dinner food... Ok, so my review of Sunshine Coast turned into a Pork Store review. I definitely do recommend Sunshine Coast if you are in the Haight and you are a shisha fan. read more

I've only been here once, with a couple of friends, and it was pretty chill. Awkward, but chill. My friends and I are kind of loud and excitable and laugh a ton, we're not exactly the chill sort. I've been going here more recently just because it's a way to relax, get out of the rain, and be somewhere other than my apartment when I get out of class. It's really nice to just unwind, try some flavors, and practice on making smoke rings. The staff here are really nice too. I've been offered a toke from their hookah before just to try the flavors. They're also great about mix suggestions - we tried the Rose and Jasmine shisha combo instead of our usual Peach and Hypnotiq. I just wish I had the allowance to spend $15 daily or every other day to hang out here, haha. read more

This is the best hookah bar that I have been to so far. Granted, I'm not a hookah connoisseur, but my friend is. She also agrees that this is quality. They keep the hookahs clean for a longer, cleaner and more flavorful burn. For $15 the two of us can split a hookah that lasts over an hour. None of this two puffs and it's out crap. I really enjoyed speaking with the people who work here. They are so laid back and helpful. I was blown away by the BYOB. Minnesota isn't very big on that. It was like being at a mini hookah party and I'm glad they let me join. Their hookahs are high quality. Most of Plexiglas, or glass. Some are glass/crystal. It was $44 for a decent sized hookah for 1 or 2 people. They showed me how to take it apart and put it back together. They even gave me directions to take with and recommended a hookah website so I can figure out where to go when I get back to Chicago. Definitely try the Mint Chocolate Chip! read more
