This review is for Dr. Ooi at both locations (59th st and 86th). I honestly feel that pediatrician, Dr. Ooi and her practice are the most incompetent and shockingly disgusting medical workers I have come across.
As a parent, I was told by Dr. Ooi to ignore my child's symptoms since she thought they were doing it for attention when in reality Dr. Ooi had no clue. She did not even want to give my child a blood test until after we pushed for it, and we also had to push for a second blood test (as suggested by our school nurse). I have never come across a doctor where I felt as parents we were supplying her with more medical information rather than the other way around. Every other medical professional I spoke to afterwards were all disgusted that a doctor would suggest this of such a young child and suggested that we immediately stop seeing her.
What's further disturbing is that Dr. Ooi said that she sees a lot of patients where the symptoms are "psychosomatic." For the love of god, if you are a patient of hers and she's telling you that it's "psychosomatic" please advocate for your child and see another doctor. I'm terrified of the possibility that other children are being mistreated and ignored!
Additionally, when doing the blood test, Dr. Ooi herself messed up and had to retake the blood draw. I have never seen a doctor perform a blood test (usually done by nurses alone) and have certainly NEVER seen a doctor mess up a blood draw! What further infuriated me is that when we asked for a lollipop that was on her desk to soothe my child, she shrugged and said "sure, but it won't work."
Also, when we asked her to check my child's diaper area since she was complaining in discomfort, she looked unwilling and only examined her hip. When we asked why she did this, she said she didn't want to traumatize her. Wellll, because of this the second doctor we had to take my child to, found a perianal abscess that she completely missed! I am still horrified by Dr. Ooi's behavior and disgusted that a medical professional would refuse to do her job!
As for her staff, some of them barely speak English and insisted on speaking to us in Chinese even though my husband doesn't speak mandarin! We also had to call and email several times to ask for blood reports and was told by one worker that "she was too busy and would do it later" even though it was our second time speaking with her that day! I mean, how long does it take to send an email?? We needed the reports (even if they were not finalized) to show our other doctor and when I mentioned this to Dr. ooi, she said"oh, but we have a portal." Ummm, that's great but to this day I still have not received any info about a portal or my login info!
The only good thing about Dr. ooi is that she did call to follow up, but talking to her was frustrating since she insisted on ignoring all of our questions up front and would only answer our questions once we gave her the info she was looking for.
I only went to her office because it happened to be open on a Sunday, and I'm not sure what her regular customer population is like, but as a concerned parent, this experience has been absolutely disgusting. Reading through the good reviews here, some of them honestly sound fake and almost like they were forced to be written by her staff.
I definitely do not recommend her at all and am leaving this review as a precaution to other parents out there. read more
