Dr. Read and Thandi are exactly what I wanted for my child's healthcare: warm, engaging, open, friendly, competent and communicative but not anxious (or anxiety inducing). This is not a large practice with preset rules that may or may not apply to your child. Instead Dr. Read gets to know you and your child and offers advice and care accordingly. She highlights the things that should be high on the look out for list and rules/guidelines that you really, really should follow, but is flexible around stuff that can vary/doesn't need a hard and fast rule, taking care to explain the rationale behind rules and how that may or may not apply to your child. Most importantly, my daughter adores her. She is now getting old enough to know that the doctor's office is a place she gets shots (which she does not love) and yet she still loves going in and seeing Dr. Read and Thandi. [Dr. Read even came to her first birthday party!]
I had a lot of people warned me that I would not want a solo practice (What if I needed something off hours or had something happen in another neighborhood? Tribeca Pediatrics is so much more convenient - and there is one right by your apartment! Etc.). But I had already met Dr. Read and knew - immediately - that she was our doctor. I have never once regretted that decision. Her and Thandi respond to messages with a speed that sometimes makes me want to send them both on an unplugged vacation. Their responses are thorough and anything at all alarming is worked into her schedule immediately. I know without a shadow of a doubt that I would not be as happy with any other practice (and feel beyond lucky to have Dr. Read as our pediatrician). Now if only I could find a primary care provider for myself that was half as great of a fit...
[Also, I know she is an adolescent specialist, but she is amazing with little ones too!! We started with her at my daughter's birth and she is now a toddler... Hopefully we never leave NYC and she can still be her doctor on visits home from college.] read more
