PANA Donuts Coffee & Boba Tea - Old fashioned and cake donuts

I was driving down Pendleton Pike and almost slammed into the car in front of me when I saw this…read morePana Donuts. Since when has there been a Pana on this part of the east side?! This location was not on Yelp and it wasn't on their website. So I believe it's the newest Pana Donuts location in Indianapolis. I've visited almost all of the Pana Donuts around Indy, and there is no question: Pana Donuts are the best donuts in Indianapolis. They are old-school, no-nonsense donuts. If you've been to Southern California, the donut capital of the world, and have eaten a donut from one of the several thousand independent donut shops, then these are them. Soft, not overly glazed or frosted or sweet. Just perfect. My standard order at any Pana is a glazed twist. These guys do the glazed twist right. Each bite is soft and melts in your mouth. So if you're wondering what kind of donut to get at Pana: get the glazed twist. If you're getting more than one donut (and you should), their old fashioned donuts, buttermilk donuts and blueberry cake donuts are also astronomically great. I don't usually get anything to drink at Pana, but I decided to try the chai, because the woman behind the counter recommended it. I can see why she recommended it! The hot chai at Pana is amazing -- nicely spiced, creamy and sweet. When I'm not drinking a black coffee, my go-to is a chai, and this one at Pana was wonderful. This Pana Donuts has a drive-thru! They also have a claw machine inside, and a lot of seating with lots of natural light coming in through skylights.

This is primarily a boutique bubble tea shop, but besides bubble tea, they also have a pretty…read moreexpansive food menu with dumplings, fried chicken, flavored egg waffles, and more. The drink menu itself has lots of variety with different types of tea, milk tea, fruit tea, and non-caffeinated mojito or milk-based drinks. I got: - Cloud-mist green tea w. milk foam & herbal jelly: Very good tea with a refreshing flavour. The herbal jelly was very herby (this is a good thing) and there was plenty of it in the drink. I got 0% sugar and was happy with that. The milk foam and jelly added just a hint of sweetness, not so much that it made the whole drink taste sweet. The milk foam added texture and creaminess more than sweetness. - Brussels sprouts: I appreciated that I had the ability here to order a big bowl of vegetables, not an option at most bubble tea or KFC places. $8 for fried Brussels sprouts looks steep on paper, but one order is a whole meal-sized bowl. These were delicious and tastefully crispy but a little too salty, especially with such a large portion. I would suggest splitting an order if you're there with a friend. - Taro egg waffle: Very well-made egg waffle with crispy and almost caramelized edges but soft, fluffy bubbles. The taro flavor was unique. They served the waffle with a small cup of honey. I tried dripping the bubbles in the honey but mostly ate it plain because I liked it just fine plain, and the honey masked the subtle taro flavor. I visited during mid-afternoon on a weekday where they were not very busy. The staff were very pleasant. They greeted me when I came in and brought my food to my table. They have two electronic kiosks for ordering, but I ordered with the staff since there were no one waiting at the time. The shop design is very cool, with two levels. Most tables have outlets. It was a quiet spot to hang out for a while and get some work done while I sipped my tea.

Pros: consistency, great pho, great spring rolls. AMAZING chili oil - I bought the to go version to take home and it's the spiciest chili oil I've ever had at a pho place (which is a big deal to me!) Con: order delivery lately and their drinks aren't ready by the time I'm picking up. That's it! Restaurant is clean, service is good. No reason to go into detail when things are pretty straightforward.

Initially when walking in, no one was dining in. I was going to place my order to go, but decided to dine in. It was pretty quiet, clean and open. It was almost closing time and a few employees were cleaning. It smelled so clean throughout; making for an even better dining experience. The service was great! I didn't have to wait long at all before my bowl was coming out. I went with beef and brisket pho. The condiments were fresh. The sauces were full. Before adding any sauces, I wanted to try the broth by itself. And when I did, that's when I knew that Pho 21 has secured me as a customer. I truly didn't have to add any sauces, but what is pho if I didn't add some razzle dazzle. I left with my tastebuds satisfied and lips with a slight sizzle. Ha! After all, if your lips don't sizzle, did you really have Pho? Ha!

I really love that they have a build your own roll/bowl option with plenty of veggie and fruit options. They make it in front of you, so it feels reminiscent of Blaze Pizza or Chipotle but with Sushi. You select your base and protein (side note: they have interesting protein choices like crawfish and short rib beef -- I always get the roasted tofu, though), then choose the veggie/fruit toppings which are so fresh and delicious. They provide very generous portions! They also have several bubble tea options - fruit tea, milk tea, lattes etc... Their milk teas are made with a non-dairy creamer while their lattes are made with whole milk. I recently tried the Cherry Blossom Milk Tea (50% sugar) and it was delicious, too. Also, if you opt to dine in rather than takeout, they offer fresh baked desserts and breads. I recently bought a loaf of their Milk Bread and it was SO fresh, fluffy, and had the perfect subtle sweetness. It was amazing !! The couple running the store were very friendly and provided prompt service. I'm looking forward to going back.
