I have mixed feelings about this place.... I love the set up, the grass, and the SPACE!!!! It's very roomy and there are usually toys there 24/7 so you don't have to bring your own. It's great for my Australian Shepherd and English Bulldog. However, the people are kinda *eh.* I know that sounds mean, but most people there are stand off-ish or drink wine there even. It seems kinda pretentious in my opinion. My dog was also attacked there, so that might have a little to do with it to be honest. I also met a couple who told me that their first child was the French Bulldog, not their 2 year old son- what the heck? Who talks like that? But seriously, I go there because it is convenient and it's a very nice park. It's much better than the rocky one in San Ramon and the muddy one on Amador in Dublin. read more

A great place for your lil or big babies, four or two legged! :-) The park in general is great for the family, plenty of space for the kids to run around, nice for a picnic, parties or just to lay out and take in the sun. The dog park is great! Benches, grass, clean, toys, water station/ bowls, etc...all you and your dog would need for a fun day out. The small dog area is the perfect size for the lil ones and the large dog area is very spacious for all the big dogs. It's never really crowded since the park is pretty big. Everyone and their pets are friendly and thus far I have yet to see anyone neglect or take advantage of the lil perks, like the dog toys left for all to share or issues with people cleaning up or minding their pets. This is only for their dog park. Moving to the area from SF around June, we were looking for a place to take our dog that is comparable to any of the SF parks or beaches. After searching for places in Dublin or Pleasanton, we stumbled upon Hap Magee. This is one of the nicer parks in the area with some grass, fully enclosed dog play area and some wood chips along the borders. Fast forward to October and now there is 100% dirt and 0% grass. I'm not sure if they purposely did this for the drought or if they are going to not have grass anymore, but I guess I'll wait and see what happens. I don't mind the dirt, except that my dog loves to fetch so I feel bad when he runs and creates a mini dust storm. I do try to avoid the dust blowing into people and luckily there were not too many people and dogs there. Owners are ok for the most part. I haven't seen anything major happen between the dogs or owners, so that is always a plus. read more

I took my dog to Hap Magee Ranch Park on Saturday afternoon. The dog park is much smaller than Memorial Park in San Ramon. There is a small dog area next to the main dog park. The best thing about the park is that there is grass as oppose to sand/dirt. The edges are also covered with newly laid wood chips. When we got there there where at least 30 dogs running around playing most of them mid to smaller sized dogs. There are benches all around the park but little shade. In the center of the park there is a water fountain. For it's size and the number of dogs it's a little cramped. If there were larger and more active dogs this would be a problem. read more

I love the dog park at Hap Magee - it is definitely the best in the area re: dog parks (although I don't really want it to get more popular lest more fights start). Fights are rare and I've never seen dog disputes escalate to owner disputes (aka, people take responsibility for their dog's actions!). The rest of the park is beautiful, normally fairly quiet, well maintained, and dog friendly, although I would never let my dog off leash outside of the dog park just for the respect of others. My one personal gripe about the dog park is that people have a tendency to bring small dogs into the large dog area, likely because the large dog area is much bigger and always much busier. However, I've seen some small dogs be huge PITAs to large dogs and then they tend to look like the victim when the bigger dog reprimands them. I have found that most of the disputes I've seen here were caused by small dogs. There is a weight maximum (20 lbs iirc) for the small dog area; I wish there was a weight minimum for the large dog area. read more

Nice ranch, great for kids! But my review is for the dog park: Although I went the day after it rained, I still think this is an excellent place to bring your big buddy or little diva. The grass was wet, but yet the dogs were happy to be out. Layout and size: ~About half a football field with about 60% grass in the center, surrounded by wood chips on the sides and majority of chips in the back going uphill. Extra running room if they don't like wet grass. ~Plenty of benches. Even a tree bench. ~Plenty of tall trees for shade. Excellent versus other dog parks I've been to. ~Fountain for the dogs. ~Plenty of parking. ~The small dog side gives them enough room, and is well grassy. Nice park!!! What is nice, is the wooden playground structures. They don't have the typical plastic playground sets here. It's really nice to look at. Plus it's super quiet. I guess no one really knows about this place except for locals. I hear lots if birds chirping away. This place is surrounded by nature! The ground is composed of wood chips and sand. I see dogs walking but it's super clean. Lots of places my 3 year old can play in. We found a jewel in Danville. read more

In the cuts but WAY worth the the visit if you have kids, want a change of scenery from city life, want to hurdle around pretentious, snooty moms, and want hot/shady areas all in one place. What I like about this park, is there is a wide variety of things/places for your kids to do and plenty of space/trails to walk along. I also am a big fan of the hill-y areas that surround the play area as they rest among little trees that give shade for blanket laying and such. There water play area: Just big enough that you don't feel like you lose your kid in the mass of running, slipping, and splashing. There are park benches around there too which is super convenient. The picnic area: Comfy and so clean. Each table is clean and when I went it was around lunchtime and all the tables were open for the taking. The playground: Super fun??? Ok, it has a seesaw (sturdy and made of wood), a wooden train to climb, swing sets for both toddler and big kids, a merry-go-round (the thingy that spins/has bars and makes all moms anxious at the possibility of seeing their child possibly throw up), and all the other climbing type equipment. Plenty of lawn space all around as well. There is also a do g park here but I have not been in it, but from the outside it looks really nice. read more

This was a nice park for younger kids, but there's not as many play structures as I thought there would be. I can only imagine how hectic the park could get if there were more than 10 kids running around. Due to the drought the water park was also off, which made the heat unbearable for my kids. I adore this park!!! I have been taking kids that I have nannied here for years! The dog park is a plus as well! There are two play structures, one for the "bigger" kid, and another for the "little" kids. However, unlike most parks these structures are fairly close together and very visible from all angles of the park. As a nanny who looks after more than one child being able to keep your eye on both kids at once is a PLUS! The water feature in the summertime is great, it is located near the sandbox, which creates mud, but what child doesn't love to be dirty. The bathrooms are also close by. What I like most is the parking lot if a decent bit away from the actual play structures, so you don't really have to worry about kids running towards cars! I have never been to this park and thought "hey, no one is here". There is always other kids to play with! There is also plenty of shade, to keep yourselves out of the sun. I'm just reviewing the dog park (though the playground looks cool, but I'm past my prime on that one). Took my little guy there today, though I took him there last year and it was not so successful. I see they've added grates on the slotted gates now to the small dog park, which they didn't have last time. And my miniature poodle was small and kind of freaked out for his first time. He realized he could fit through the slats on the gate and escape! Oh No! My daughter thought if we tried again putting him in the middle....Oh yeah right. He ran like hell for that door again, with us running after trying to catch up. And he's got these long skinny legs like a jack rabbit. So that was the end of that for awhile. Well now he's full grown and a bit bigger, so I thought I'd give it another try again. He does have his Lab brothers and sister at home (so technically our house is a dog park, but I won't go there). I just thought he'd enjoy meeting some dogs his own size. So today it's warm and sunny on a lazy Sunday, and there are maybe 15 or so small doggies there. We now see they've installed a mesh grate over the gate so no possible escape "Dewey"...haha! He seemed a bit like "what do I do"? He ran around for a bit, then back and forth between Mom and Dad. I guess he's just shy. But definitely a better experience this time. It's a very nice dog park that's split for small dogs on one side and big dogs next door. We've brought our labs in the past (all three, a big undertaking) and they had a good time chasing everyone, but eventually just want to eat grass like cows? But a nice amount of space with many benches for the "parents" to rest. Nice little water set up for dog drinks and the grass area is kept up well with tanbark all around the edge. So now that I know my dastardly "Dewey" can't escape, we'll try again soon, hopefully he can make some buddies his own size. read more

This dog park always delivers. A lot of the dog park experience is the other dogs and the dogs here are great. (I mean all dogs are great) it tends to be decently crowded which is awesome for my pupper. I like that it's not grass or dirt making sure my dog isn't completely filthy afterwards. Parking here is usually good/ not full. The location is also great for lots of walks to take your doggie on. The park can feel a bit small at times. I read more

Came here for an outdoor wedding, and it was awesome! We had great weather, great background for photo ops, and great fun. We were on the opposite side from the designated dog area. Plenty of spacious greenery to put tables, a dance floor, food, photo booth, games, and more. Only thing is that is gets HOT in Danville! Still, while there are some bugs, you're not constantly fighting them off. It was a beautiful day with beautiful people at a beautiful park. read more

GREAT experience for my 6 month old female Akita in the large dog park!!! We were there recently on a Sunday afternoon in June 2017 and it was warm. We were there for a picnic celebration and brought our pup w/us so she can also play freely in the dog park. -Owners were very attentive to their dogs if there was any conflict or just keeping an eye out -The big dog area was large and spacious with trees, benches -Dirt and grass but it's fine -Friendly pet owners!!! I have always loved this dog park, it is well-maintained and grass is replanted each year (I think?). As to those canine families that frequent the dog park - well let's face it, a beautiful fun day at the dog park can instantly be RUINED by just one irresponsible owner! Such a thing happened to us this morning so I called the facilities department was given the following recourse: (1) Handle the issue yourself with the other offending dog owner, or (2) call Danville Dispatch to come out and remove the offender. In my case today, an elderly dog attacked my 7-month old GS pup not once, but 3 times in short sequence. I yelled and chased the dog off all 3 times, but to my dismay the owner sat quietly by watching and doing nothing! I finally yelled at her to 'leash your dog'.... but she never did. I leashed mine and we went to the far side of the park. My pup was so tramatized he wouldn't even play with the others, so after a while we left. read more

Stay away... Your Dog Park is way better. Vicious Bichons and Cairns in the small coral hanging around the water fountain and poop bag dispenser by the small dog gate... Packs of mean looking labadoodles and Portuguese water dogs prowling along in the grassy sloping play area with lots of trees and benches... Parking lot with spaces reserved for rigs with horse trailers...unbearable. This place is the bomb. STAY AWAY. The park closes for reseeding during the winter months and is closed on Tuesdays for general maintenance and mowing. I have been to this park several times. In Prior visit I came by car today I came via my ebike. This is a really great place with lots of fun activities for kids, but it's even fun for adults to come here. Excellent facilities very clean restrooms, lots of picnic tables. Great park for kids. Several play structures and lots of area to sit in the shade or the sun. Also had a sand pit area to play in. Looks like they also have a water play area but the water was turned off due to the drought conditions. There is also a huge green space area to play and run around, if you so choose. (In fact there was a woman laying in the middle of the park in a bikini. And she sure was attracting all the looks from everyone, esp the males. But it was a little odd to see.) Canine Corral at Hap McGee Ranch: Probably the best off-leash dog park in the East Bay... and maybe the entire Bay Area. It's got large patches of grass that's well taken care of as well as seperate areas for large and small dogs. There are benches as well as water fountains. But what really separates the park from others are the owners and their dogs. The people are friendly, considerate, and in control of their dogs. The only down side is the lack of shades on a hot day for both the people and the dogs. The dog park is closed from November to March to allow the grass to regrow. Something about mentioning the words Hap Magee Park to my nephews (ages 3 and 6) which makes them go bat-shit crazy. It's like when you say the word "cookie" to the family dog (funnily enough there's a dog park for your four-legged friends there too), they get this expectant look on their faces, their bodies wriggle around in giddiness. All those nifty water fixtures to play in - oh if only summer were closer! I can hear my nephews whining already. Hap Magee is a wonderful little vernal oasis tucked away in one of the quietest places on earth, Danville/Alamo. Great for picnic-ing, relaxing, reading, playing, romping and it's right near the Iron Horse trail so you can be green by walking or biking there! Finish off the day by taking a walk or bike ride down the Iron Horse to Loard's Ice Cream in Alamo Plaza and you've got one sweet summer day. read more

One of the best parks I've visited! This park is beautiful and has so much to offer. A great play structure, flat walking paths, a dog park, volleyball court, and many well maintained picnic tables. Parking is easy, and has easy access for strollers and wheelchairs. The dog park was great-- large space with lots of benches and well behaved dogs/owners. There is a big dog and small dog park. The best dog park in the East Bay. I probably sound like everyone else, but it's true! Our dog, Max is so friendly, that I don't have to worry about getting her socialized with other dogs and people. The moment we step in here, she wants to say hello to everyone and completely runs away from me, until she gets tired. Then I just have to call her name and we are on our way home. I like sitting on their benches and read a magazine, and lift up my eyes from time to time to see how she is doing. The other owners are very friendly and keep a close eye on their dogs. read more

Great off-leash dog park Its located next to the children's play area and group picnic site. There is construction going on in part of the parking area right now but you can still access the dog park via a short walking detour. There is shade, benches, water, poop bags and a small dog area separate from the large dogs. The area consist of wood chips and a lawn. I was very impressed. read more

My dogs love this park! There is so much space for the dogs to run around and there are lots of other friendly dogs at this park. At first, I was a little nervous to bring my goldendoodle into the park. There were about nine other dogs in the park and they were BIG. Like pitbulls and large labradors. But then someone informed me that there was a small dog park down the path. So I took my dog there and there were a bunch of puppies and little dogs. I definitely recommend this park for small dogs and puppies. The big dog park is definitely a busy place with lots of dogs and I was a little concerned that the owners don't watch their dogs as closely in that area but on the plus side there's a bunch of space for the dogs to roam around in that area. We're definitely going to visit this park again. read more

This park is awesome. I wish it was closer to me so I could take my son more often. The play structures are unique and fun for the kids. We were here for 90 minutes and my son (2 years old) didn't get bored at all. Sand, 2 giant play structures, lots of ride-on equipment, swings.....it's all great!! Will definitely be back. read more

I LOVE this park! It's a great place for kids to play. Tucked inside Danville is this gem of a park. It's a little walk from the parking lot, but well worth it. Has water fountains at the entry that are usually opened for the hot weather (unfortunately, at the time of this writing, all water has been turned off due to the ration). But even without them, it has ample shade especially for those hot summer days. My kid loves the sand area (shaded) and the 2 play structures for kids big and small. Oh...and the spinning merry-go-round ride is there too (hardly ever seen anymore)! There's lots to do and is bound to keep the little ones occupied for some time. read more

Wow finally a great dog park in Contra Costa! Nestled amongst the tress and surrounded by lots of grass this makes for a perfect place to bring the dogs...and kids if you have them since there is a splendid play area. Its quite serene here aside for the little bit of traffic noise. There are two dog play areas, one noticeably bigger than the other. There is plenty of running room for the dogs, its clean and there are benches in the shade! My dogs and I are very happy! read more
