Honestly, we were disappointed. The roof they installed years ago was not installed correctly and caused water damage over the years due to improper installation. All the founder could say was that he couldn't understand how the damage could have happened. It happened because the roof wasn't done right. They didn't own up to it. Nor did they even offer to replace the damaged materials for free! Hansen also recommended work that other contractors didn't feel was necessary. At first, I thought Hansen was giving a good price. But after getting other estimates, we chose another contractor to do the work and could not have been happier. The contractor we went with gave us a MUCH better price and didn't nickle and dime for everything they could charge extra for -- dumpster, etc. It pays to shop around. The new contractor installed identical roofing materials with ease, and took care of all the permit work -- and did the work for thousands of dollars less than Hansen's estimate. They installed 2 HMI metal entry doors in my enclosed breezeway. It took all day because the house is old and nothing was square. The 2 installers did a wonderful job. Their work was meticulous down to installing an unplanned for colonial molding strip on the inside because it went better with the style of my house. When the doors close its like a vault closing - the doors seal so tightly. It wasn't cheap - twice the amount of the quote I got from a big box store but I guess the old saying is true - you get what you pay for. They replaced cheap wooden doors and the difference is unbelievably better. They're a nice company to deal with too - friendly people. read more

I bought a 50 year-old three family house in Cliffside Park in 2006 and one of the first things I did was replace ALL the original aluminum sash windows from 1960 - 22 of them in all. That was nearly 10 years ago. Today, I was reminded of what a great job Hansen Brothers did because one of the casement windows needs a new crank-handle. This is the only issue I've had with the windows. I googled them to find the phone number, and I was quite surprised to see these one and two-star reviews. For me - the Hansens did exactly what you would hope a home improvement contractor would do: sell you a good product at a fair price and do a professional installation. read more

They didn't do the job properly in the first place and when Tom Jr. was called on it he accused my wife of lying. When they found they were mistaken he did apologize and came back with the missing gutter piece and said he would reduce the price. When asked for a new bill with the deduction they promised, both Tom Sr. and Jr. said that they did the job and weren't going too honor their promise. read more

Started off good, but went downhill. I replaced all windows in my condo unit back in 2012, but on two separate occasions. About 4 years later, one of the windows in the bedroom had moisture come in, so the window became foggy and bubbly looking. I called Hanson Brothers at least 3-4 times to just try to get someone to call me back. There was a lot of phone tag, and apparently only Tom Sr. was able to help me, and getting a hold of him was ridiculously difficult. After a few months of just trying to get someone to help me, I then find out that they have no record of my work being done and asked me to bring down my confirmation order paperwork so they can photocopy it, which I did. Another couple of months pass until someone comes to take a look. They took a look and said no problem they can order a replacement because it's under warranty and they should get it in a few weeks. Another few weeks turned into another few months (this has now almost been a year since I first reached out). I then receive a call from Tom Sr. to have me call the manufacturer of the windows to have them help! At this point, I just call and the manufacturer will charge a ridiculous amount of money for labor. I called Hansen Brothers back and they then direct me to a local glass company for a cheaper installation price. Umm. I thought Hansen Brothers did window installation?! Needless to say, super disappointed, I still do not have a replacement window and looks like I have to figure it out myself. Terrible. read more

I've been a business owner myself for 25 years and yes, "word of mouth" and recommendations is what keeps my business alive. Therefore, I must say we were extremely pleased with the work Hansen Brothers of North Bergen performed on our roof recently. Complete new roof, from the removal of the old slate roof, to the clean-up to the installation of the new roof, all in two days. Came back the following week and in two days again, completed all soffit work, which looks amazing and finally on the third week, came back and in 4-5 hours completed all gutters. Again, all is done "Weather Permitting", so we knew it would take some time. My house looks so different, couldn't be happier. And they did what they said they would, no hidden costs, no surprises, and most importantly no headaches!! Can't leave without mentioning "Juan", who supervises the entire job, great!! For many, many years Hansen Bros was our family's go-to company for windows. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case. Early this year we had them replace several windows. These windows have not worked properly since they were installed. Trying to get them to come back to correct the issue proved very difficult. After several phones calls and weeks of waiting they finally sent someone to fix the windows. The repair person insisted the windows were fine and that we were opening them incorrectly. He drilled some holes and put in some screws. This did not correct the problem of the windows slipping down when opened or of the windows not closing properly. In the following months we called Hansen Bros repeatedly only to be told they would "get to us" when they could. Our last communication was in the spring when we were informed that it would be months before someone could be sent. We are still waiting and now they don't even bother to return our calls. We are going to pay another company to replace the windows and want to warn others that Hansen Bros no longer provides quality service and have little regard for their long standing customers. read more

Earlier this month we requested a free quote from the above mentioned company for a window install of a rental unit at a condo. A gentleman came out inspected the work required & plesantly answered questions making us feel confident in the company. We were provided with a price quote which was slightly accomondated to keep us within our desired budget (we got a $100 discount to be exact). Sadly this was one of those we will do & say anything to book the contract and then we don't have to follow through with the service as originally discussed scenarios. Prior to signing the contract we were adament that the service would have to be completed by the end of the month as a new tenant would be moving in July 1st. Tom, assured both myself and my mother in multiple occasions that this would not be a problem and that it would only take TWO weeks from the time the windows were ordered for them to receive them from their third party in charge of making the "custom" windows at which point they would promptly schedule the installation. This however was not the case. Our contract reads 6/8/15, however Hansen Bros requested we provide written approval for the color selection of the window because apparently they had a liability issue in the past with an install at a condo. We provided them with a letter from the managing company of the condo confirming & approving the color window that was to be ordered on 6/11/15 but per Tom they did not order the windows till 6/13. Based on their original word the windows were supposed to arrive in 2 weeks however when we followed up on the status of the windows today Tom told us that the windows won't arrive to them until the second week of JULY adding an additional 2 weeks to the original agreed upon schedule which was the determining factor for us choosing to work with their company versus a competing party. The worst part of it all was not the breach of trust as we trusted not just our money but our business to this company, it was the lack of professionalism in which the matter was handled. Tom was agressive in his tone, he was rude, argumentative and loud. Multiple times I had to remind him that it was unprofessional for him to speak to a customer like that and that it was unnesesary for him to speak to me in that way as I was treating him with respect and was doing my best to stay objective and be polite, that I was simply just trying to get answers and a resolution. He said that he was angry because me being polite was a way of patronizing him. Apparently this guy is used to people not knowing how to communicate calmly and respectfully. Had to ask him to please let me get a word in as he kept cutting me off anytime I wanted to ask or state anything in regards to our order. I explained to him that I didn't understand why it took 2 additional days after we confirmed the color with a written consent to place the order of the window. His reply was that just because the letter is dated such date doesn't prove they received it that day (as if we had a reason to lie about that) then when I said well why did you tell us it would take 2 weeks for the windows to come in but now you are retracting his reply was that he didn't recall ever saying that. In the end we requested to have our money refunded and he refused said that if I wanted my money back to dispute the charges with my credit card company. I was in awe and could not believe it. I told him he can certainly expect my complaint to be submitted to the better business bureau and he laughed and told me "ive been doing this for years". Don't know exactly what he meant by that but if indeed he has been doing this for years its a darn shame. This company is schetchy and unprofessional and was a huge disappointment. Buyer beware! Have everything dated , written on paper and faxed or submitted certified mail with these guys so you can have prove of everything or better yet find another company all together. The days of doing business on good word are long gone and Hansen Brother Inc don't have an honest word to stand on. read more
