If you're looking for a friendly cheap breakfast! Then look no further, this place has plenty of seating, a small-town feel, and some of the friendly staff I've met. I've eaten here a few times for breakfast and it's always under 20 dollars for two people. The only complaint I have is the home fries, the potatoes are not seasoned and are a bit on the hard side. This could have just been a one-time thing, because any other time it's been on point. They also serve lunch, though I've not tried that out yet.

I popped in here while I was in town not expecting much, and it wasn't, but the food filled a hole. It's really your "basic bitch" kind of eatery. Sort of like a diner but doesn't seem to me like a diner. Not a hole-in-the-wall greasy spoon, but nothing spectacular either. The clientele weren't friendly but they didn't go out of their way to be dicks either. There was this one dude who worked in the kitchen who looked like he might be some kind of backwoods serial killer. The waitress who served me seemed like she gave up, on everything, a long time ago. However I rated this place so high because she took the fact I casually didn't tip her like a pro. Like she expected that, and my frugal side respects that. It wasn't just the people but the food itself that was passable, but like I said I ate it and the price was reasonable. I didn't spend more than $12 all together for the Rueben Sandwich, that was mostly sour kraut (that should have come with chips), fountain soda, and chocolate cake (which was the best part of the meal). I would say save this place as a dessert stop after eating at McDonald's.

Good home style food and very inexpensive! The salads are huge, the Friday haddock dinner feeds two. My go to place for a good meal.

This is a great place for old people. The food is bland. They do a great breakfast but not so good dinner.

No longer there. Is now a dairy bar and creamery. Haven't been there yet but maybe this summer.

TLDR: Time capsule family restaurant whipping up delicious home style meals for a reasonable price…read more Come for the broasted chicken! Vibe: 5/5. Located on the outskirts of Hanover, Clair's has been a cornerstone family restaurant for the area since the 70s. Back in the 90s, I have fond memories of going to Clair's with my family for Friday night dinners. The restaurant itself has mostly left unchanged from what I can remember, but in a good way. The bright yellow sign out front, the ice cream cold display case at the entrance, to the charming booths with the removable partitions between each just play into childhood memories of simpler times. With how old the overall restaurant is, everything is well maintained and very clean. A testament to the hard working staff and devout ownership. Service: 5/5. We went on a Saturday night around 6pm for dinner and had a wonderful service. My party of 4 arrived to a fully packed restaurant, however we were fortunate to get a booth table after a brief 5 minute wait. The restaurant does not take reservations, but you can have Google call the restaurant to check on the wait time, a nice convenience. Our waitress was outstanding from start to finish. She was very friendly and did an excellent job keeping our drinks filled. Food came out punctually and piping hot. Overall, Clair 's staff has their service down pact and truly makes you feel at home. Food: 5/5. Exactly how I remembered. The core menu has remained mostly unchanged from what I remembered coming as a kid. From your classic turkey and gravy to Salisbury steak, all your classic family restaurant favorites are here. On top of that, they have daily specials that have a more modern/seasonal twist on the classics. At the time of my visit, they were serving Yuengling beer battered haddock which I decided to order. The fish was perfectly fried and had hardy portions. Speaking of portion size, each dinner included your choice of 2 side items from a dozen or so items. Highly recommend the breaded zucchini as well as the fried corn fritters, both of which were childhood favorites of mine that lived up to my nostalgia hype. Dinner prices range between $10-15 per platter, which is very reasonable for the amount of food you receive. Don't forget to save room for dessert, as Clair's dishes up lovely hand spun milkshakes and sundaes using Hershey's ice cream. Overall, Clair's offers up the perfect casual dinner for those that just want to kick back and remember simpler times

Sunday morning, my son and I went in for breakfast. I really wanted to like this place. Our second…read moretime here, and they were pleasantly busy. He ordered pancakes and bacon. I ordered a plate of 6 scrambled eggs and a side of bacon. With only two cheese selections, I added Swiss instead of American cheese. He had a glass of water, I ordered coffee. When the food arrived, he said to try a bite - yep, his pancakes were rubbery and tasteless. I told him I was sorry and then we could get something else later. He just ate his bacon. My eggs were mostly Swiss cheese. More cheese than eggs, It's as if whoever plated this food could not have cared any less. Neither of us were interested in finishing our breakfast, but not to the point of posting a yelp review. My major complaint? We went up to pay and it was $35 - before tip. I was shocked and I said as much. The owner /manager explained that "adding 4 extra eggs and cheese was the difference." Just... Wow. "would you like to add a tip?" Ugh. I still added 20% as I'm not a cheapskate. Total was $42. Good job folks. Maybe your experience will be different. Maybe it was a one-time mistake. But they had a chance to make this right. I got Fire-hosed and that's on them. I'm local and might've become a regular. Looks like a win for the Starlite diner in Hanover.
