It has a 500-seat main auditorium and a studio space and boasts stage facilities that quite a few main-scale theatres would be envious of. In fact, it's a shame that the main house only seats 500, as the stage is large enough to accommodate some fairly large gigs that would attract a large audience. The cafe/restaurant out front serves a very high standard of pre-theatre nosh too and offers great views over the Clyde. A nice place to sit with a coffee and gaze at the scenery.

The venue itself is set on the water, and in between various older buildings, so it kinda sticks out with it's modern feel to it, but it's still quite nice. We walked in and immediately to the right is their bistro which is a great place to come to for a meal during the day or for dinner and drinks at night. If we're ever back in the area, I'd like to stop in for a meal as there were a lot of great options to choose from on their menu and it smelled heavenly. There is a pretty big entry way where people can hang out during intermissions or before the shows. The toilets were bright and clean and easy to get to. The inside of the venue is great and we had really great seats. Four rows from the stage, dead centre. The only thing that was tough (and completely my fault) was needing to use to the toilet (too many pre-show drinks, ha!) during one of the opening shows. Being in the centre of the row of seats made for interrupting a bunch of people who didn't seem too thrilled about it. I was able to sit in a different row when I got back, for a few songs until the bad was done playing so I kept from interrupting any more people. All in all, the acoustics were great and the overall feeling of the venue was wonderful. Loads of seats and nice staff members to help you get to your seats. I would definitely come back for another show if we were to get tickets again.

Right, so I was in charge of finding a place. To be honest, there's not much Yelp help in Perth, but I did find this place, which seemed reasonable (and cheap), and could probably take the six to eight of us who were going to go to lunch. (As the location I tried before was unlikely to be able to fit us all in). The pub is very nice! It seems like it's not really going to be there, but all of a sudden you happen upon it. It's also a pub that does table service. Which is a bit odd, but also kind of nice when you're waiting for people. Four people had pies (fish, steak and ale, and chicken and ham) and they all really seemed to like them. The other half and someone else had the Balmoral chicken (chicken with bacon and haggis), and they both raved about it. I had the tex-mex burger (a chili burger with onion rings, cheese, and a spicy sauce), and I was very impressed with how spicy everything was (one of my pet peeves is seeing "spicy" on the menu and the food not being at all spicy). The pub itself is quite spacious and has an outdoor seating area (if that's your thing, which in November, it's definitely NOT my thing). If we're back up for the band competition next year, we may have to stop in again.

We were able to book a table and asked to be seated close enough to the stage so that we could enjoy the band. The band of the night was a band called Tunna (pronounced Ton-a) who were a Celtic band. My boyfriend is pretty particular about his music, but we quite enjoyed ourselves, even though we only stayed for half the set. It was a really loud set up, and we decided the next time we make our way to Perth and happen upon this place, we'll ask to be sat a bit farther away. The food was pretty spot on. We ordered some chicken wings to start which were absolutely delicious and it came with the best BBQ sauce I'd ever had. I meant to ask what kind it was, but forgot. For the mains, he ordered a burger with haggis on it, which came with chips and I ordered the gourmet chili dog, without jalapenos which also came with chips. We also ordered onion rings to share, which I thought were pretty gross. They reminded me of the frozen ones you can get out of Morrisons that are basically minced onion in a battered ring. Yick. All in all, the staff was pretty amazing. Very tentative and waited on us at our tables. That's the first time I'd ever been in to a pub and had table service. We had two different people wait on us, and it was pretty great. They had one of my favourite ciders available (spiced apple) and we also had a voucher for a fiver off, just for joining their email on their website. There is an outdoor patio area with loads of seating for eating and drinking. Pretty great once the weather gets a bit warmer! If we're ever in Perth again, I'm sure we'd stop back by Twa Tams! They are proud of their namesake, which centres on the story of the black greyhound of Linlithgow, whose master was imprisoned on an island in the middle of the nearby Loch and sentenced to starve to death. Everyday the greyhound swam out to her master with food and ended up saving his life. The locals call themselves 'Black Bitches' after the dogs symbolic loyalty. A great local, if quiet, tavern serving a range of real ales. It also has a nice beer garden. Apparently there is a folk music night every third Sunday of the month too.

The food was worth the lack of atmosphere: good prices, special offers and always filling. However, it is a place that is best enjoyed in the evenings, as it is making a real effort to offer something different for Shawlands. Monday night has a computer game tournament, and there is live music from Thursday through to Sunday- Sunday being an open mic night, that usually serves up some local comedy. Friday and Saturday see it turn into a trendy pub, with a graduate aged crowd: busy, but the screens have Sex and the City all Friday night and the atmosphere is lively and safe. The actual fittings are swish: this has been a comedy venue in the past, and retains some of that cool atmosphere. The last time I went in, it still had canvases of comedians up on high. It's also possible to escape the crowds by going to their balcony. At the least, it gives a clear view of the action downstairs. The bands are local and mostly do covers. Saturday is blues night, there is a DJ on the Tuesday evening, with cocktails on special.
