It has always been a warm and welcoming pub when you've come off the boat and are either waiting for the next bus or just for the weather to abate. If it's evening entertainment that you're interested in then the pool table is very popular as are the regular Karaoke nights and the friendly local bar staff.

The fish was fried to perfection: flaky, crispy, and not too greasy. I typically hate peas, but these ones were sweet and fresh. The fries were also good. I am so happy to have stumbled upon this place with my family. I ate fish and chips about 5 other times while I was in the British Isles and none of those hold a candle to this place. We were able to order some drinks and find a great table with a decent view of Greenock. My guy and I only stayed for a few as we were on our way to a concert at the Beacon, but we had high hopes of making it back after the concert for some snacks after checking out the substantial food menu. Unfortunately, we didn't get back from the concert before 11pm (when they stop selling food), but we did stop back in for more drinks and crisps on our way back to the hotel. I had the trout was only offered chips or new potatoes. Or thinking about it again now, perhaps the big dish of brocolli and carrots that arrived with the steak pies was meant for all of us. The waitress didn't say. There was enough for everyone, so we just tucked in. I would like to suggest that diners are offered a dish of veggies of the day for the whole table, or ask the diners to pick 2 veg from a small selection? There was a band all set up to play at 9.30 pm and I think that the whole village of Kilcreggan turned up just as they started. Up until that point the place was about half full and the many TV screens kept you entertained,(if you like football that is ). The band consisted of three men and some acoustic string instruments, not all guitars. They started with an Eagles song and the place just suddenly filled up with locals. Being a small and remote village, I got the feeling that everyone knew who everyone was and the band played really well but the place was that busy that I'm not sure that most of them bothered with them. Some women had a wee dance in the wee space just in front of the band. I think that there was either an over friendliness between the women of the village or just a small section of the population that were known lesbians as there was a lot of arse fondling for long periods. Just felt it was a bit unusual. Anyway, the owners turned up to take over from the injured barmaid and they were very friendly and bubbley. I don't know if they do food during the day but I can recommend this place for the good feel on a Saturday night. I was open right up to 1 am.
