On charming Ashton Lane in the swish west end of Glasgow is this classic little Irish pub. Evenings will inevitably find this place absolutely stowed with students and the after-work crowd alike. If you manage to get seating here, guard it with your life--especially if it's in one of the cozy booths. There's regular live music of the Irish folk variety, and the atmosphere tends to get extremely lively. Tis an Irish pub, so what more could you want? Extra Cold Guiness on tap, live music 5 nights a week (traditional or otherwise), an outdoor heated area, Irish bar staff and a good ol' pub lunch menu, you couldn't ask for more! (Sometimes, if you're lucky, you'll get the touristy shamrock in the top of your pint of Guiness. Ha!). Best time of the year is most definately St Patrick's day - you'll be lucky to even find standing room in Jinty's. As I said though, it's brilliant banter so well worth squeezing in for a pint of green Guiness. It's generally an extremely busy bar - popular with students and worktypes alike - everyone receives a warm welcome. I think you should go, to be sure! read more

Ashton Lane is an old-fashioned cobbled street which looks much like something out of a 1930s' gangster film. Jinty McGuinty's itself is an old-fashioned Irish bar, which coupled with its lively atmosphere, means that it fits in perfectly to the busy Ashton Lane. Be under no illusions - this is a small pub, meaning things do get quite cramped, particularly at weekends, but I suppose this helps add to the atmosphere. Even on weekday evenings it can be a busy place and you will struggle to find a seat, meaning it's not really ideal for a big group. Evening entertainment is usually provided by a live acoustic guitar performer (watch not to knock him over as you squeeze your way upstairs to the loo), which mercifully is not too loud, meaning you can enjoy it and still chat to your mates. Seating is mostly in the form of a few charming booths, plus a beer garden in the summer, while there is the expected array of Irish drinks on tap, as well as the usual stuff. The prices do verge on the expensive side of things but this is to be expected for anywhere down Ashton Lane. There is sometimes a bouncer on the door, especially at weekends. I would definitely recommend this place as it is definitely one of the more atmospheric pubs in Glasgow. While being an Irish place, it isn't exactly the most blatantly so (I didn't even realise it was an Irish pub at first, or maybe that's just because I'm an idiot), so even if you aren't after an Irish pub you will still enjoy Jinty's for its unique air. read more

Delicious fish and chips! A good crisp filet and perfectly cooked chips and the best mushy peas I've ever had! We also tried the fried haggis appetizer to gently lead us into the Scottish delight. Stopped here for a quick drink while exploring Ashton Lane. It's right at the edge of the lane, so allows for good people watching at their outdoor seating. The service was quick and friendly. If you love an Irish pub/Guiness, you are probably going to all-out-love this place. It's on Ashton Lane which can be a polarising place - there's some businesses that are up there with my all-time-fav Glasgow businesses, and then others which I would avoid even when my life depended on it. Jinty's falls into the middle of those two feelings for me - I quite enjoyed hanging out here for an hour or so, but I can't think of why I'd rush back. Firstly, the layout is a bit weird. It's a lot smaller inside than I expected, and if you managed to nab a booth seat I think you'd be pretty cosy and comfy. Otherwise you'll be stuck sitting along the wall or perched on a stool at a barrel which is fine for a very short amount of time. I believe there's a massive beer garden though so that would be enough to lure me back for a 2nd visit in nicer weather. There was live music starting at 9pm on a Sunday but we left before it started so I can't comment on that. Overall, the place seemed like a popular spot on a very quiet Sunday in January, so I guess it has a lot of fans. Maybe I'll change my mind once I check out the beer garden in summer. read more

I've gone off a lot of Ashton Lane - overpriced, overhyped, and overly owned by G1. Jinty's is one of the exceptions, and the huge cider garden (sponsored by Magners / Bulmers) is a treat if you can get a table. Inside I like the booths (but they're always full) and yes, it may be an Irish theme pub but it's decent. It's also been here forever, and has a bit of an old-man-pub feel to it, none of this shiny bar / shiny staff / sh*** service stuff that seems to characterise so much of the rest of the lane. There is no shortage of Irish bars in Glasgow and in Ashton lane Jinty's has to be one of the nicer bars out of them all. It's not often that I come here and I think that there several reasons for this the main being that it's a small bar & gets over crowded very quickly, and with a small bar that gets busy with a small bar area is slower service. Always, always loved Jintys, a staple of the Ashton Lane scene. In the summer, when that glorious sunshine beats down on the beautiful Glasgow city, the beer garden at Jintys is the equivalent of the Sunset Strip for the West End jetsetters. OK, maybe going over the top a little there, but you get what I mean. Jinty McGuinty's is, as the name would suggest, is an Irish themed bar, dealing in nothing more than decent, solid, traditional beers, ales, spirits and foods. Expect nothing more and nothing less than that, and you'll be fine. It ranks up amongst the best pints of Guinness in Scotland, unsurprisingly, and the decor inside features a lot of Guinness memorabilia - the giant keg tables are pretty damned cool if you can nab one. There's also plenty of booths and wall shelves to balance your wares on. It's been here forever, and it shows no signs of going away anytime soon. It does get busy quickly at the weekends, so if this in your plans, get there early and stay there. A West End institution - a must visit at some point for everyone. 'nuff said. read more

Behold! In this establishment you will witness a unique event...people queuing. Not along the bar, but in a line, snaking away from the bar akin to the type of queue you'd expect in a post office or bank. It's a bizarre sight. Unusual social practices aside, this pub is simply okay - nothing more, nothing less. On the plus side, it's not as pretentious as some of the other nearby boozers and it's a little cheaper, on the down side, the layout's a bit rubbish and it lacks atmosphere. I'd best sum up this pub with a gesture (which obviously you can't see) - a shrug of the shoulders and the word 'meh'... Want a pint in Ashton Lane and everywhere else is hoachin', go here. Due to it's loctaion, less of a magnet for the unemployable as your usual Irish pub, Jinty McGuinty's, like most of the nearby bars, suffers from the phenomenon of being quite a pleasant, traditional boozer for a quiet drink during the week, and a noisy, rowdy dump during the weekends. The presence of fiddlers and "folk" singers adds to the misery, but it's still nothing like as bad as The Loft. Funnily enough like Chris I also spotted badge-kissing messiah Neil Lennon on St Patrick's day, but due to my inherent prejudices, I didn't bother asking for an autograph. Jinty's is the nearest thing to a traditional Irish pub you'll get around the west end. And the dark wood furnishings make the place a cosy wee place to enjoy a Guinness. Not really the kind of place I end up in but have been on a number of occasions. The live music in here is seriously good though, and the old singer that used to be a regular has now hit the big time with a celtic singing boy band! On one occasion in particular a bunch of us popped into here for a burger. We all ordered one each and they came out and each looked quite nice but when mine came out (why, oh why me) my burger had been substituted for a piece of square sausage, while all my pals tucked into a big massive burger. When we took it back we were told the had ran out and took it off our bill - not perfect and I would have appreciated them telling me that before trying to fob me off a roll and sausage. But I do like this bar and the staff are usually very friendly. Good music and a nice atmosphere. A small part of me really didn't want to like this place as i'm becoming ever so tired of the " Oirish Pub" phenomena...there'sjust so many of them. This place however is the Mac Daddy of all the Oirish Pubs in Glasgow. I recently visited this joint for the St Paddy's day celebrations and was well pleased to find an authentic (or as close as it comes) Irish type pub that hit all the marks without lookin like it was trying too hard. Confirmation of this came from one of my Irish associates who commented that it was just like home.....nuff said......oh, and one of my drunken friends got Neil Lennon's autograph for her Dad...that was worth a mention. I was surprised that this place is actually run by its namesake. I thought it was just a gimmick. No, no, Jinty's there and she runs the place. And for an Irish pub, it is seriously like walking through a door in Scotland and coming out in Ireland. Live folk music during the week completes the picture to a 'T'. Adorable little nooks, like sitting in something a little larger than a phone booth, and just as intimate. Outside there is a rather large beer garden, and on a hot summer's day you'll find the beer garden packed with happy patrons. One drawback is that you can't get from the beer garden to the bar without walking around to the front door. Another drawback is that the bar area itself is rather tiny. I got caught standing in a corner once and kept getting bashed by the front door with people coming in and out. But that should tell you how popular this place is. read more

Always crowded (inside as well as outside in the beer/cider garden, should the sun grace Glasgow with its presence), always great live entertainment and always a lot of fun. Even though it's crowded it is not claustrophobic. It's authentic. The people are down to earth, friendly, just relaxed and looking for a good time. Ah, fiddle de dee and a point oh Guinness. Great take on an Irish pub. The interior is very olde world Ireland without being tacky about about it. But it is small, and during the evenings can get very packed, especially at the weekends. On the other hand, and this is thing I really love about Ashton Lane in good weather, it's the only place in Glasgow where you can take your drinks onto the street outside. There's nothing better than sitting outside drinking pub juice during a gorgeous summer's day, and if that's your thing too, then get down here early, 'cos on the rare occasion where Glasgow gets blessed by rays from the giant fireball in the sky, everyone and their neighbour will want to be in one of the beer gardens in Ashton Lane, and this one is very popular. Send a scout in advance if you have to. If you're lucky enough to get a table under the heaters you could be in for an all nighter outside. There is a couple of flaws. The walk from the beer garden to the bar is long and loaded with krypton factor obstacles, like steps. Okay at the start, but you try carrying three pints of Guinness up a couple of, quite steep and irregular steps after drinking three pints of Guinness and it can get entertaining to say the least. The toilets upstairs are not pleasant. Not sure what the girls are like, but the boys have abused that poor toilet seat something terrible. I'm never really sure why lads feel the need to break toilet seats, surely these same lads will eventually need to sit down somewhere. The queue for the bar can be dauntingly big, but it is fairly orderly during the day and does go down reasonably quickly. Imagine a small festival beer queue. I want to give it 4, I really do, maybe I will when summer kicks in properly and I've been here a few more times. read more

Jintys is a fab wee pub on the very busy Ashton Lane in the west End of Glasgow, just off Byres Road. The drinks are a fair price considering the area, and the clientele is very mixed, with students and professionals jostling elbows at the bar to get served. There are often live music acts on during the week, some better than others! They tend to be more of the folk variety, which makes a pleasant change. The bar staff are pretty friendly and it has a great chilled out vibe. read more

We still enjoyed staying for one drink before moving on to somewhere we could breath. Definitely would've stayed longer had there been more space. One of the less expensive and pretentious bars in Ashton Lane in the West End of Glasgow. It's best plus point being its massive beer garden out the back, which can be found by going out on to the street and to the left of the bar. Great for summer drinking and with plenty tables, chairs, grass and even trees for those wanting the shade! This is a small yet worthwhile pub to visit when spending time in the West End of Glasgow, located perfectly around the corner from the Hillhead St. Underground, Jinty's in on Glasgow's famous Ashton Lane. I can undoubtedly say that this is amongst my favoured places in Glasgow. Pop in here for a fab pint of guinness and a wee bit o the craick and then wander up and down the lovely cobbled lane to enjoy the general ambience of this Glasgow back street! Often some live music plays and you will always find an interesting local to chat away to. Although small the pub is well-laid out with booths down the side. The Guiness Barrels outside add a wee touch of Irish welcome and the background tunes are usually of Pogue-like ilk. If you like Guinness its a MUST!!! Be careful of Saturday nights - you could be queuing a wee while for a drink but it would be well worth the wait. read more

Went into Jintys the other night, as heard the music on the way up the lane. Must admit, totally forgot how rare this wee jewel in Ashton Lanes crown really is. Was nice and relaxed, superb staff, even remembered my drink the second time, and Declan who was playing that night was 1st class!!...Even noticed something I had not realised, all drinks are 35ml as opposed to everyones elses meagre 25ml. Asked at the bar and was told that they had always served a bigger measure since they opened 20 years ago!!..Guinness still as good as ever and a great evening was had by all. It was a nice little pub with nothing too special about it, but we enjoyed the atmosphere and had a drink before continuing on our way. Lackluster fish and chips. Among the worst I've ever had. And I've had hundreds. Other food like the non-veg platter was uninspired. Chips were small and soggy. Even the Guinness was ho-hum.
