I came here on Friday to meet up with an old friend before heading elsewhere…read more St Vincent's Boston Irish bar doesn't look like a chain bar but is owned by the same people as Oran Mor on Byres road. The bar looks very minimalistic with drinks and furniture and looks more of a working progress with cables hanging out of the walls. For an Irish bar it certainly didn't have an Irish look or feel to the place but looked more like a cocktail bar with the white seats minus the drinks. The first two drinks that l tried to order was out of stock as no delivery came, I ended up with a Guinness and possibly the worsted that I've tasted in years. For a Friday night there was only a stereo on for entertainment the bar did however have a funny smell like an old persons house. No TVs or sky yet No jukebox. I will come back in a few weeks to update if there is any change.

Although the opening of this bar brought comments from the management that they were trying to steer away from being a strictly 'Celtic pub' St Vincent's serms to me to be very much 'Son of Failte'. 3 months after it opened I srill do not know if I like it. The actual bar itself is far too small- Failte's was one of the longer bars in town- which leads to three deep queues to get served if the pub is even moderately busy. The gantry is not particularly well stocked - very little in the way of malt whisky- and service is patchy although when I was last in it was better than previously There has been live music every time I have been in and because St Vincent's haa a low ceiling it can be quite hard to have a conversation and , if you have been ar a game or there's a game on TV, I quite like to be able to hear what people are sayng. I am not against singing the old rebel songs at all but the list of songs is quite a short one and some variety would help in the music perforned. The musical acts are usually good though. The bar has always been busy when I am in it and it fills a gap in a market quite well but it has faults and to date lacks a bit of character. As my old report cards used to say 'could do better'

It's cozy, crowded, and buzzing with life -- often standing room only and packed shoulder-to-shoulder with locals and travelers alike. If you're a whisky fan (or even just whisky-curious), do yourself a favor and try one of their Scotland whisky flights. It's like taking a mini tour of the country's whisky regions without ever leaving your barstool -- and without worrying about driving. The bartenders really know their stuff and are happy to guide you toward something you'll love. A quick heads-up: no football colors allowed, which keeps the atmosphere friendly and relaxed no matter who you support. And speaking of friendly -- the locals here are as welcoming as they come. This is exactly the kind of place where Scotland's famous pub culture shines. Prices are surprisingly reasonable too, so you can sample a few drams without feeling guilty. Whether you're a seasoned whisky nerd or just looking to experience the local vibe, this is the spot. Pull up a stool (if you can find one) and enjoy a proper Scottish night out

This may prompt you to feel like ordering a drink. You are in good hands and they can totally recommend something that you may like. Their selection is so huge they don't have a menu, you just have to ask for your label or take their recommendations. Naturally, most of the selection is Scottish whiskey, but if you somehow prefer otherwise, (say you are a local tired of Scotch... or just want to reaffirm nothing beats a Scotch?) they do offer whiskey from other countries, as well as beer and ciders, as well as gin, rum and the like. They do offer pies and other bar food, but we went after dinner and just couldn't stomach more food, tempting as they may sound.

The first night we have been there was a Friday and it was pretty quiet still the atmosphere was really nice. Met a lot of nice people there. Unfortunately they already closed at midnight. The second night was on a Saturday after the Celtic match. The place was really crowed and it was even more fun than the night before. Later that evening they had live music. All staff and guests were really nice and you are more than welcome to stop by if you are a St. Pauli fan. The prices are pretty cheap. I will stop by there every time I go to Glasgow again.

Having researched the pub before going (The Times calls it the "Hardest pub in Glasgow") we were not sure quite what to expect... Wearing a St Pauli shirt and holding a pint of well kept and very well priced (£1.95) Guinness helped defuse any situation that could have arisen, but we didn't come across any agressive behaviour in the bar at all. The staff are dedicated and friendly and the whole pub is plastered floor to ceiling in Celtic photos, shirts, scarves etc. Do not come into this pub in a Rangers shirt, or any other football team's merchandise just to be safe. Do not talk about Rangers at all, just to be safe. They have a pool table, although it's best to let the locals play.

I'll be completely honest here…read more Being a supporter of Celtic football club, you would think this would be a place For me However I'm not one of those die hard fans that know ever Celtic song and sing them at the top of their lungs ...... The whole evening entertainment was catered for this type of person Let's judge the food, Starter- soup - ok actually And served hot which I didn't expect given the amount of heads in the place Main - go up and stand in line on your turn for a carvery - again food was hot and the meat quite tasty if on the skimpy side Dessert - ah the free for all at the pig swills - however they were tasty and plenty To choose from between shoulder barging The company at he table you are placed at is in the hands of The gods, who abandoned me this night, we unfortunately were placed with a racist bigot who personally threatened me with a knife and tried to on several occasions pick a fight, we spoke to several team members and several managers who's solution was to speak with them and stop serving them drink Yeah great thanks, that will help the verbal abuse and being forced to sit at a table with someone who verbally and physically threatens you as well as shouting sectarian language for hours The staff just didn't react quickly enough and allows this onslaught of abuse carry on for hours not just on our table but other tables that had the misfortune to have this scumbag visit I really feel let down by the team working this evening, they are suppose to be there to serve and over look our safety and they failed to react on every level, took 3 hours of complaining for this guy to be finally ejected As for the bar prices and trying to get served if you are not female Don't get me started 4 drinks £20 Bottle of champagne ---- nope front sell it but you can get prosecco for £23

However, lean times have forced Celtic to diversify and offer to make this available to fans both post/pre match and on selected away games. I have been here pre-match twice in the last week or so, Elfsborg and Ross County. There was not a lot of difference so I'm do not intend to compare and contrast in great detail. However, for the Ross County game the bar was open over five hours before kick-off at 5.15 p.m. As Elfsborg was a European game with a 7.45 p.m. kick-off and I'm not sure what time it opened. Both times the format was the same. There are several large 8-12 seat tables in the middle of the room. There is live music on, which comprises of 1 man and his guitar singing Celtic and Irish songs. They have a bar which sells alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and reasonable prices. Just over £3 a pint £1.50 for a can of Irn Bru. They also serve food which I will mention again later. Unfortunately there are not enough seats for the amount of people that come here before the game. This place is geared towards corporate events and despite the fact that many more people that what they would normally expect on a corporate day turn up they provide no additional seats. This leads to at least two thirds of the people having to stand. This is made worse by the fact that you can order food and are forced to eat it standing up without anywhere to put your plate. Some of the food require the use of both a knife and fork. How the hell they expect people to do that without a table is beyond me. The music is too loud. This is a place to meet up before the game, catch up and sink a few beers. It is a real struggle to hear the person sitting next to you. The music is good but I'm not going to Charlie and the Bhoys, this isn't a sing song it's a bar. I've spoke to several people there who have complained so maybe they will turn it down for next time. Both times I arrived here about two hours before the game the first time we managed to get a seat but not the second time. The food menu is limited to about six things but it does seem to change. I had seet and sour chicken with rice when we got a table and it was delicious. The portion looked small but in reality it wasn't. The second time I got a southern style chicken and bacon burger with chips. It was disgusting. I don't know how bacon or southern coated anything can be tasteless but it was. I was forced to get a pie at half time it was so bad. Ok no one forced me but I felt obliged to as I felt so unsatisfied. The atmosphere is good and if you get here early enough I think it is a good place to chill out before the game and have a few beers. You certainly avoid a long walk with beer swilling around inside. This is a good idea, however, Celtic need to decide whether this is worth doing, and if it is they need to: listening to the patrons and turn the music down, add lots and lots and lots and lots of seats, if they don't add tables to the seats they need to put tables/breakfast bar style borders round the edge of the room so you at least have somewhere to stand and eat. I'll provide an up-date 2014 to let you know if much has changed since then. If you are going to come here COME EARLY.
