We met a lady in a pub in Edinburgh and while talking, she mentioned that we should visit a…read moreWetherapoons for good, quality food, including a drink, in a casual atmosphere for a fair price. We took note. We are now in our first Wetherspoons and LOVE IT!! We have already searched along our travel route to see if we'll get a chance to save $$$ and have some good food here! We are budget travelers, and this restaurant is known for serving good quality food, normal, nothing fancy, just "home foods" and pub fare, but today we got lucky with a Delivious chicken tika masala complete with garlic naan, rice and 2 delicious fluffy fritters for £5.50!! Soft drink included!! What a deal! And: they were delicious and quite bountiful servings. Couldn't ask for more. Thank you pub friend, wherever you may be in the world! we you!! Enjoy!

This was a pretty good place to eat. We were out and about around 8-9AM and grew hungry, searching…read morefor a place that would be open at that time of day on a Sunday. We were not disappointed. We sat at a table and looked through their extensive menu. According to staff, everything on the menu was available to order, not just breakfast items. I was delighted because I definitely was craving more of a lunch than breakfast. I ordered the haggis bites, the tandoori chicken as well as the spicy prawns. Our food came out pretty fast and very hot (a plus!). Unfortunately, we could not order any alcoholic drinks before 11AM. The chicken was very delicious. It was soft, not very chewy and flavorful. I am on the fence about the sauce that it came with. It was ok, but not something I would miss if they took it off the plate. The spicy prawns were my favorite though. They were extremely good and the sauce that came with it was very good as well. The haggis bites...well I'm sure if you like haggis, you would think it to be delicious. It wasn't nasty, but let's just say it's one of those things I need to develop a taste for. However, I definitely was not a fan of the sauce. Now, I loved the prawns so much that I went up to the counter to order more. However, I said "shrimp" and the guy mistook me for saying "strips" and brought out chicken strips. I told him that I wanted shrimp...the prawns but he wouldn't take it back and just said "Sorry." I was a little ticked off, but the strips were pretty good. There is nothing more that can be done about that situation. Be reminded that when you order, you have to go to the bar counter. Aside from the incident above, the staff was friendly for the most part. The restaurant totes a casual flair and was very clean although a little dark. The prices on the menu items seemed fair and were not overly expensive. Overall, If I lived here or stayed longer I would definitely be back. It seems to be a very nice restaurant with slightly above average food and I'm sure the drinks would have been great if only we had arrived after 11.

The Logie Baird is a modern chain type of bar located in the building that was once the town's…read morecinema. It is open and airy, with free wireless internet access and can be a sociable place to enjoy a few drinks and chat mid-week, yet can transition from being a day time, family-friendly bar to a bustling evening hotspot at the weekend. With plenty of screens it's a good place to watch the football, although they tend to put the volume up just a bit too loud and the staff get difficult if you do have to ask them to tweak it. Having a Friday/Saturday night DJ the place can get busy and noisy at these times, too, but it's a good atmosphere and they generally have plenty of bar staff on, so getting served is not usually an issue. As with most Helensburgh pubs, the patronage is predominantly male due to the close proximity of the naval base, but it does still attract a reasonably balanced crowd - especially being one of the few bars of this type in the area. The food is decent, with generous children's portions - I'd recommend the curly fries over the regular type. Oh, and the sweet chilli chicken panini is both tasty and reasonably cheap. In summary The Logie Baird is a good, friendly bar and a cut above the numerous "old man's pubs" around the town.

Chain pubs don't seem to have hit Helensburgh hard, which is arguably a blessing. However, I do…read moreadmittedly enjoy The Logie Baird. I shamefully can't remember what this building used to be before the pub opened - perhaps a cinema or bingo hall...? Nevertheless, Logie Baird is always brimming full of local residents and lively banter, so it feels as if it's always been a fixture! It's certainly become a firm favourite amongst my family for food and a wee drink. Drinks are reasonably priced and they have a massive, varied cocktail list which is good on a Friday night if you fancy treating yourself. Meals are all under a tenner and on certain dishes there are two for one offers available. There's a number of dishes suitable for vegetarians including the Mediterranian salad, which I've got to say is one of the best I've tasted. They don't hesitate to pile your plate high with freshly chopped red peppers! As it is so popular it can get rammed in here at weekends, so go early if you're wanting to get a meal. Saying that, the staff work really hard when it's packed and will try their best to serve you as soon as possible. Sometimes it can be a wait, but the food is always worth it and the staff will inform you if the chef is going to take a while preparing your meal. The fish is really fresh and you will most likely clear your plate as it is a cut above the Wetherspoonsian microwave steak bakes. It's set in a gorgeous building with loads of space and whether you're in for the football, with your family or for the DJ at the weekend The Logie Baird caters for everyone. The staff have always been friendly and familiar when I've visited and it's very child friendly if you're looking to eat. As Robert said it's a cut above most other bars of this kind!
