This pub used to be known as more of a traditional 'old man's pub' but in recent years has become very popular with the younger generation. It is traditional in decor and style and has a bar wih an adjoining lounge for karioke or live music. We had very plesent lunch; i went for a chicken curry which was nice enough. It came with chips and rice, and the potion was waaay too big! Good for a hungry shopper though. It was really quiet with minimal background noise except for the jukebox when we went, which was a nice oasis from the busy shopping centre.

At both functions, the bar staff have taken drinks orders from the table, and put it on a tab so you can pay it off at the end of the night which is a great idea, but also dangerous as you can end up with a hefty bill at the end of the night! Drinks are not expensive, but they aren't the cheapest, which is understandable as they can charge a slightly higher price because of the functions. I love The George because of how wonderfully friendly the atmosphere is. It's located in a relatively busy part of Hamilton, and during the day serves a wonderful pub-grub food menu. It's also one of the only real ale pubs in Hamilton, and has won best ale pub in Lanarkshire various times! It has 3 alternating taps, which are extremely popular with the regulars. There's a DJ on both Friday and Saturday nights, with the crowd on Friday night being nearly packed out the door every week! There's a quiz night on Tuesdays run by Colin, the owner, and on Sundays the food menu isn't on, but there is a wonderful piping hot pot of free soup for all! About 10 years ago it was my parents local pub, where them and all their friends would meet up for drinks. According to them it used to have a great management team and was a wonderful place to drink. These days, the pub has a very different management team, and subsequently different bar staff. Every time I go in, I'm always served terribly because the staff are always so rude and seem to just not want to work there, I don't understand why they don't just find a job they can be happy doing. I also find that there are a lot of regulars that go, but they're the sort of regulars who give you weird looks if you go in and you're not one of them, they always make me feel uncomfortable for going into what feels like "their pub." I wouldn't suggest going here for a drink to anyone unless its the only place open.

My friend and I just went out for cocktails. I was unfortunately driving but the bar staff were very accommodating and made me virgin French Martinis and they were absolutely delicious. If you're ever out that way pop in and you'll see what a difference it is with the refurb and check out the live music as there is plenty of local talent.

I am interested in trying the karaoke though, which is on Saturdays from 9-12 and Sundays from 7-12. Pop in then if you fancy a sing song!
