I love The George because of how wonderfully friendly the atmosphere is. It's located in a relatively busy part of Hamilton, and during the day serves a wonderful pub-grub food menu. The bar is fully stocked with malts, spirits and a selection of a few foreign beers in the fridges. It's also one of the only real ale pubs in Hamilton, and has won best ale pub in Lanarkshire various times! It has 3 alternating taps, which are extremely popular with the regulars. There's a DJ on both Friday and Saturday nights, with the crowd on Friday night being nearly packed out the door every week! There's a quiz night on Tuesdays run by Colin, the owner, and on Sundays the food menu isn't on, but there is a wonderful piping hot pot of free soup for all! You'll never meet a more accommodating place, as both children and dogs are welcome, and the owners Colin and Lynn are truly wonderful people who really love and care for the place, and in turn all of their customers.

It was absolutely deserted, as you could expect on a Tuesday evening, but the bartender was in excellent spirits anyway and was chatting away whilst making our cocktails. As my friend Amy and I walked to the bar we noticed that the sign outside said £8 cocktail pitchers. And in we went. Once inside we noticed on the cocktail menu a single cocktail was £4, so we went up and asked for a cocktail each, and he said "You do realise a pitcher would cost the same and would get you probably 2 each?". Well you didn't have to tell us twice! I like the fact he actually whittled his bar out of some cash, because it meant he was being customer orientated which I've never experienced from staff in there. Modern and stylish, the bar mixes tradition with trendy chic which makes for an unusual atmosphere. We managed to get a table but there aren't many to come by, which makes it impossible to go in large groups if you want a seat. We ended up sitting next to complete morons for a good hour or so, and were unable to move because there were no more seats! That made for an interesting conversation at least. This bar is unique in that it does cocktails and shooters, much like the more modern bars and pubs in Glasgow do. My friend and i opted for the P.S I Love You cocktail, which sounded delicious; amaretto, Tia maria, cream, Kahlua and dark rum. Truth be told we chose this because it had the highest alcohol content, but it did sound nice! Unfortunately what we got was a tall glass full to the brim with a whole tub of Elmlea single cream and a few shots of liqueur. It was so thick and sweet, just like drinking cream from the carton, so after battling half way down the glass (yes i know, I'm a trooper), i left it at that. The cocktails were around 4 quid which was pretty good, although I'll be giving that a wide berth in future as it made me physically sick and i had to leave early on in the night, not a great impression! As the night went on the bar got increasingly busier until the floor was literally jam packed with boozers. It all felt a little sardine like and claustrophobic so we left to go somewhere else. Not a bad place, just unfortunate about the sickly cocktail. I would try it on a quieter night for the full experience.

They have a full bar, and pride themselves on having life acoustic sets and karaoke on different nights. They also do an open mic night, which is a great idea I think! On Fridays and Saturdays there's a DJ on playing chart hits, but he also takes requests if you ask! Quiet most week nights but very busy on weekends, go here if you fancy a good wee night!

This pub used to be known as more of a traditional 'old man's pub' but in recent years has become very popular with the younger generation. It is traditional in decor and style and has a bar wih an adjoining lounge for karioke or live music. We had very plesent lunch; i went for a chicken curry which was nice enough. It came with chips and rice, and the potion was waaay too big! Good for a hungry shopper though. It was really quiet with minimal background noise except for the jukebox when we went, which was a nice oasis from the busy shopping centre.

It is great bar for food, cocktails and has live nights, karaoke and other entertainment throughout the week. They have freshened up the look of the bar and it looks and sounds more like a bar from the West End of Glasgow rather than in Hamilton West. It also has a side room with booths which is great for getting something to eat. I've also seen it reserved for private functions. I haven't tried the new menu yet but it looks good. My friend and I just went out for cocktails. I was unfortunately driving but the bar staff were very accommodating and made me virgin French Martinis and they were absolutely delicious. If you're ever out that way pop in and you'll see what a difference it is with the refurb and check out the live music as there is plenty of local talent.

It is quite a pricey bar in comparison to the rest in Hamilton, but I think that's because it's trying to market itself as more of a student pub. Plays sky sports, has a big modern jukebox, and the staff are great. Nothing much more to say about this great wee place!

Weekends in here are quite busy, and are usually full with the younger crowd. It is a cosy pub, quite small with a big fireplace making it feel really quaint and comfortable. The drinks are quite expensive though, with a glass of red wine coming in at just under five pounds, restaurant prices. Not somewhere I would go out of my way to visit, but nice enough if you land there by accident.

Some of them were clearly underage but knew they would get away with it in here! The music is loud for a bar, and it's pretty hard to get noticed at the bar. It must be one of these 'for locals' pubs because all eyes were on us when we were looking for a table, of which there are none! There are literally three tables in the bar area. The atmosphere was a bit houseparty-ish, with people writhing all over the place and the token chubby girl with a cowboy hat and a short skirt on bending over and shaking it just that little bit too much to Britney Spears. Don't get me wrong, i like a bit of debauchery at the best of times but we were a bit out of our depth in here so we knocked back the booze and left! I was taken here to 'the best pub about' by my friend and his cousin, who lives locally, on a rather uneventful Tuesday afternoon. This is literally my sole experience of Hamilton pubs so, I don't have anything to compare and contrast it to. However, going by my experience here it had a good range of drinks (but sadly no addlestones) and the prices were not bad. The music was your run of the mill pop pub stuff, so not great but not awful. The staff and service was fast and very friendly. Though, I reckon this was because I was in with a regular (the cousin) and a fairly familiar face (my friend). All in all, if you happen to be in Hamilton and feel like a moderately priced drink in a fairly nondescript pub then why not? But don't go out of your way in or seemingly, after 5pm.
