I don't normally buy 1/2 pints of Strongbow but it was a very cheap £1.50 something which I was very impressed with ... maybe that's a standard price? Who knows. We came back looking for some dessert and while the seating area was nearly full, they stretched us over two tables which was nice. I ordered the apple tart (£4) and the waitress was amazing at keeping us informed in how long it would take for food to arrive as they were pretty busy. The tart was super tasty and I really liked it, although I only ate the filling. The decor is lovely - similar to the Butterfly and the Pig in a shabby chic kind of way, and it really works well in the dining area. I do feel like that lovely atmosphere is a little lost in the rest of the bar but perhaps that will come with time.

The atmosphere was welcoming and warm, the rugby was on the telly, and it was moderately busy; always a good sign. My only slight gripe is that it cost the better part of ten squids for two pints of Blue Moon. Having said that, as Briony C. also pointed out, they have many half pints at £1.50 which is really good value. I saw a few people ordering and receiving food while we were in, and although I can't comment on tastes, the food looks very delectable and it smelled divine. It was also great value for money also; I don't think any of the mains cost more than a tenner. I'll be back Duchess...

The ramen is thick and hearty--less soupy than in a traditional Japanese place. The bar is a classic beer-heavy pub. Service is friendly. And what I was really interested in were the steamed buns at Redmond's - that sounded like something I needed in my life. Redmond's is a nice looking, welcome pub from the outside and lovely and cosy inside. Tweed booths and tall benches mean there's seating for every occasion - on a Thursday lunch time it was pretty quiet though so I grabbed a window seat. Looking over the menu there's a good selection of bits and pieces like flatbread pizza (and mini versions), salads and the aforementioned steamed buns (chicken, pork, mushroom and prawn). I like the menu - it's different from most pub offerings and it's refreshing to see something a bit different. The guy working was super helpful and welcoming, and suggested the pork bun, but as I was just after a snack I thought I'd stick with what I love and ordered a chicken bun. The chicken is crumbed in panko breadcrumbs (the delicious, super crispy kind) and has a hot mayo sauce with it. The bun is £4 or you can get a side with it for £5.50 (soup, salad, wedges). The bun arrived quickly and was nicely presented with a wee garnish of salad. I took out the cucumber as I'm really not a fan, and bit into the bun. Then, I giggled. Yeh, sometimes I giggle when I eat, what of it? That's when you know I'm really happy. The bun was perfectly pillowy soft and delicious. The spicy mayo gave it the right amount of kick, and the chicken was crispy and tender inside. YUM. The bun does have a tendency to stick to your teeth a little but just keep wolfing it down and enjoy. I enjoyed everything about this pub - the decor, the music, the staff and the food. It won't be long before I'm back.

With the revamp, I have furniture envy because everything is so pretty, but I don't really want to have furniture envy at a pub. It is a shame they changed it so much from before, the interior looks like furniture and accessories pulled from an Interior Decor magazine more than a pub. The pub quiz on a Thursday is super crowded and the bar is so loud you can't really even hear anything during the quiz, including what the guy running the quiz is saying - which makes it not the most enjoyable to attend. It is one of only two 'hipster' bars on Duke Street at the moment, and so it is one of those that you just keep going to, because there's not a lot of option for your after work meet up or quick stop at the pub to meet a friend kind of place.

One thing I have noticed is that if theres a bad review on FB the owners seem to recruit their friends and their acquaintances to post positive reviews or they remove the negative feedback. The staff are a mixed bunch, some are of the type that just want to get you served and move on others are more friendlier and are more welcome. (I'm not going to name who they are in case the owners get on to them). The music, on occasions this has been background and at shift changeover it's been too loud that normal conversation is impossible, it's supposed to be background noise! It's a pub not a nightclub. Regarding the food I will be sampling every week and come back in two months

It's cozy, crowded, and buzzing with life -- often standing room only and packed shoulder-to-shoulder with locals and travelers alike. If you're a whisky fan (or even just whisky-curious), do yourself a favor and try one of their Scotland whisky flights. It's like taking a mini tour of the country's whisky regions without ever leaving your barstool -- and without worrying about driving. The bartenders really know their stuff and are happy to guide you toward something you'll love. A quick heads-up: no football colors allowed, which keeps the atmosphere friendly and relaxed no matter who you support. And speaking of friendly -- the locals here are as welcoming as they come. This is exactly the kind of place where Scotland's famous pub culture shines. Prices are surprisingly reasonable too, so you can sample a few drams without feeling guilty. Whether you're a seasoned whisky nerd or just looking to experience the local vibe, this is the spot. Pull up a stool (if you can find one) and enjoy a proper Scottish night out

Their selection is so huge they don't have a menu, you just have to ask for your label or take their recommendations. Naturally, most of the selection is Scottish whiskey, but if you somehow prefer otherwise, (say you are a local tired of Scotch... or just want to reaffirm nothing beats a Scotch?) they do offer whiskey from other countries, as well as beer and ciders, as well as gin, rum and the like. They do offer pies and other bar food, but we went after dinner and just couldn't stomach more food, tempting as they may sound.

I don't love this area of Glasgow - the roads are so confusing, the area is quite industrial and it's not really somewhere you'd head for a pint. Or, so I thought. Once in the doors of the Laurieston, it was like I had an epiphany. It was just like my Nanna's house (although my Nanna's was a bit classier, no offence). It was warm, comforting, welcoming and had some seriously retro decor. As others have mentioned, there's a tasty selection of beers from Fyne Ales but on this visit I opted for cider. We took a seat in the lounge area as the bar was pretty heaving for 1pm on a Saturday (those damn subcrawlers!) and enjoyed the atmosphere and hospitality of by far the friendliest bar staff I've encountered in a long time. Over they came to take our photo, find out our story and give us tips and advice on completing the subcrawl. They even have maps for you! That is SO cool and was very handy later on when I'm sure some people didn't know where they were (um, like me). There's a JUKEBOX as well - a proper old school one where some of the cards are handwritten. It tells you that you have to pay, but just push the buttons and you'll discover that you don't. I put on some great tunes while we were there but I'm not sure anyone else appreciated them. Handy tip: the ladies toilet is only accessible from the lounge.

Yes from the outside you would not give it a second glance. It all looks a bit run down and perhaps even a bit dodgy. To be honest the inside ain't much of an improvement on the outside. It is an old bar that looks like it has not been done up in years. Why four a stars then? Well, what it does not have in terms of polished finishes and decor is made up for by the friendly atmosphere and great array of beers on offer. The staff could not have been more welcoming. They supplied Subcrawl maps and made a point of coming out to chat with us. The even took our photo as they take records of all the "subcrawlers" who pass through their bar. I must admit, I stuck to a boring bottle of becks on the drinks front as I was being very careful what alcohol I took on at this early stage. I would like to go back though and try a few of the far more interesting beers they had on offer. 4 stars for a traditional and slightly shabby, but friendly boozers.
