This is the second Handsome Bakery I have been to. The first one is in Schaumburg & this one in Niles. I'm not sure why (maybe the time of day afternoon around 2 pm?). Both bakeries had very limited baked goods. They had a few larger loaf/cake size but not much in the way of the individual pieces of pastries. I wish they had a larger variety of pastries but again it could have been because of the time of day? I even saw Madeline's (lol) that were placed for sale. Was looking for bingsoo somewhere outside of chicago and this place made the mark!! it was not the absolute BEST bingsoo i've ever had, but i still give it 5 stars. where i think they could improve is with a side of condensed milk to pour yourself as you get deeper into the bingsoo. the ice was a very good consistency and i overall really enjoyed this bingsoo. their mangos could've been fresher, they seemed to be canned or something. i thought the price was fair and the service was friendly. 5/5, i would come back for it again! read more

This is a huge space with lots of great dessert options. We tried a couple of tasty Korean breads and a double chocolate cookie. UGH i love bingsoo aka korean shaved ice and this place hands down definitely one of the best places for it in the chicagoland area!! Got the red bean flavor and it was the perfect amount of sweetness where it's not overbearing. We love the addition of corn flakes and injeolmi/soy flour. The shaved ice itself is made with frozen cream or milk which is much better than typical ice and makes the dish super fluffy. The toppings and the whole dessert is pretty generous is serving. I've been to Handsome Bakery a couple times and I've never been disappointed! They have plenty of great pastries and drinks to choose from. I've tried a variety of their packaged pastries which are all decent, but I would definitely say their best desserts is actually their cake! The strawberry shortcake cake is amazing! Very light and not overly sweet. They also decorate their cakes beautifully. They have plenty of space and seats. They also have free WiFi which means they are a great place to study at. First time trying out this bakery. It looks very small from the outside but it's very spacious inside! The prices are reasonable. We ordered a coffee bingsoo, patbingsoo (red bean), and mango bingsoo. They were all good! It's not like a regular bingsoo with crushed ice. It's "snow bingsoo" which is shaved frozen milk (I believe). Snow bingsoo is trending because of its snowlike texture. It just melts in your mouth. Coffee bingsoo comes with a side of coffee which you can pour into the bingsoo. Reminds me of affogato . The baked goods were decent. Definitely a hit or miss. I'd definitely go back for their bingsoo! A great place to catch up and hangout with friends but not the best place to do work. Couldn't find outlets. read more

I came to buy an 8" cake and I should've known when I saw the only 2 options I had. One of them had dark red strawberries on top as if it's been sitting there too long so I really had no choice but the other one. Got to paying for it and he says to wait so he can box it up. No problem. I am the only one in there and I stand there for a good 10-15 minutes so I go over and look at what he's doing and he is clearly having trouble assembling the box. I give him the benefit of the doubt and I go to the bathroom. I come back and the box is in the bag on the counter ready for me. I look inside the box to confirm the cake is okay but I am not surprised to see a whole dent where the blueberry was as if he dipped his finger in it. (He is also not wearing gloves which makes me nervous since he's handling food) I am trying to be nice at this point so I ask if he has other 8" cakes in the back somewhere. He says no. I should've just got my refund and went to Tour Les jour 5 minutes away and gotten a better cake. But I didn't. So it's fine, I tell him. I say I'll just take one of the smaller cakes and he can refund me the difference. But he doesn't. He charges me for the smaller cake and I ask if I'm getting a refund for the first cake, which he says I am. So he walks away... and I am confused so I ask where the receipt is for the refund and he says I'll know when I get it!!! UGH at this point I am ready to write this review. He ends up printing my receipt and he's angry. But why are you okay with giving me a ruined cake? Now I know why this place is empty on a fine evening. I will not be returning. read more

Stopped in mid day to warm up with a hot chocolate and had a peanutbutter cream bun as well. Nice atmosphere, very clean. The bun was decent, could have used a bit more of the cream. The hot chocolate was good, nothing special but did the job. Theres what I'm assuming is a traditional section with a low table and cushions for those that want to sit on the floor, not for me but neat to see. Plenty of regular chairs and tables for those that sit American style. Price was fair as well. It was delicious but I anticipated/wished the bread was softer. : $3.25 (+tax) Red Bean with Milk Cream Bread: In this milk bread, there was 90% sweet cream and 10% red bean. So if you tolerate red bean and love cream this bread is perfect for you! : $2.70 (+tax) Sweet Cream Bread: This bread was super soft tangzhong bread with sweet cream in between every two pieces. My mom loved this one as there was less cream and I liked it because of the bread texture. : $4.25 (+tax) Strawberry Mochi Cream Cheese Bread: I had high hopes for this bread but unfortunately, I didn't like the cream on the inside. It kind of tasted like Philadelphia strawberry cream cheese (which I don't particularly like) and the bread wasn't as chewy as I wanted it to be. : $2.45 (+tax) Choux Cream Soboro Bread: This bread was hands down my favorite - the outside was crunchy and the inside of the bread was soft and filled full with sweet choux cream. So its a lil Korean bakery and Cafe . Pretty simple yet neat interior. The place is very large for a Cafe, I arrived at around 1.30 it was mostly empty. The coffee was made fresh as soon as my order was placed. Very strong coffee and they could have told me that i needed to add my own sugar . The fresh baked items were very good . If you're coming here with the intention of doing work on your laptop, be warned that there's only one outlet and it's not near the tables. In fact, it's in the walkway but my laptop needed some juice so I plugged it in anyway. I ordered a 12oz vanilla latte and asked the lady how many shots they can put in. She said that they could do either 3 or 4. I asked for 3. Sadly, my latte just wasn't as strong as I had hoped and came out a tad too sweet. For $4.25 pre-tax, it just wasn't worth the $. Although it's not the most laptop-friendly cafe, it's certainly a great one for catching up with a friend or a for a study date. Handsome Bakery has finally opened a second location!!! This location is huge! Very spacious, tons of seating. The bathrooms are clean, and there is a baby changing station. The bread is very affordable, they have standard Korean pastries which are larger and slightly cheaper than competitors, and they also offer unique breads that can't be found in other Korean bakeries in the area. Love it! The bingsoos are big!!! The ice is soft like snow, not crunchy, and it is made out of milk rather than water. Delicious! I thought it was expensive at first, but then I visited other bakeries and their bingsoos are more expensive and smaller than handsome's. (Hangout Cafe and Knead have more expensive yet smaller bingsoos than Handsome.) As a result, Handsome has my favorite bingsoo. For smoothies, I recommend not getting strawberry because it is inconsistent depending on the employee... but every other flavor is delicious!!!! I definitely recommend yogurt, mango, peach! As a result there's plenty of parking. We each had a pastry and a hot drink. I had the hazelnut latte. The drink and pastry were ok. The layout is bizarre inside. It is quite spacious though. The owner flagged this as racist. How is that racist? I am part Asian, and calling an Asian bakery what it is, is NOT racist. This is Yelp, and not everyone will love your product. I give honest reviews - Here's what's really racist. In my initial review, I held back on an experience here, bc the woman said sorry and since I am part Asian, I tried to be understanding. Gloves off now - We bought about $40 of baked goods. A huge variety. Enough to make an honest assessment as to taste and quality. The place was not very crowded; ~5 groups. We were the only group with a a Caucasian in it. When our shaved ice order was ready, he went up to pick it up, and they accused him of stealing. He said, "I'm with them," pointed to us, and took the tray to bring it over. The woman took the tray back from his hands and said he's stealing. He is a lawyer and was bewildered. He asked them if they don't remember him with the group that just paid, and he pointed to us. She said, "no." I ran up. She recognized me and tried to give the food to me. I gave it to him and I said, "Don't you remember? He's with US! We just paid and bought a bunch of stuff." She said sorry, and I had him take the food to our table - This whole situation is ridiculous. (1) If someone doesn't like your baked goods and gives you 2*, live with it. Not everyone will love your product. Don't accuse them of being racist to get the review taken down; (2) You should retrain your staff in how they treat Caucasian people. Do you think this man would ever come back? He's a lawyer. He wouldn't steal a shaved ice. He can afford to buy one; (3) Pay attention to your customers more- at least enough to know who bought what. I love a good Korean bakery, why? Because they have so many great pastry options. They have self service on getting their pastries. You grab a tray and tongs and choose what you want, when you are done you go an pay. I havent tried their coffee. I was excited on their Korean corndog, but it was way too sweet for my tastes. We tried the donuts and were NOT disappointed. The long twists have a nice crunchy sugar on the outside and were light and fluffy on the inside. The sweet fried rice ball was divine but be aware it is a fried piece of dough. Inside has I think a red bean paste, but so yummy. My kids loved them and we will definitely come again. Went in with my partner, took a look around, didn't see a lot of goods for sale, couldn't find anybody to help me, and we walked out. I did not get the impression that the place was very welcoming. It was evident from the time we walked in. I'm sorry, it just gave me a really cold feeling being in there. Yes, it is a huge space, it could easily use more decor, like plants, and other things to "warm" the place up. I was very uncomfortable in there. They really could use some sound baffling panels. It's very "live" in there. There were a lot of beautiful cakes, but everything else seemed to be in sealed see-through bags. It kind of reminded me of a 1940s food mat machine. Cute new bakery, cafe, and hang out spot in between Tita Mia and Walmart. Brightly lit, clean, spacious aisles, plenty of seating. Decent selection at 8 pm on a Friday night. Our strawberry mochi pastry was soft and springy. Sweet filling to complement the very mild outer bread. We brought home 3 others, but haven't tried them yet. Saving them for breakfast tomorrow! This place has a very open concept. There's a lot of seating and room to navigate. Their pastry selection is plentiful however, may appear less than other bakeries due to it being a larger cafe. I'm giving this place 4 stars due to the fact that their pastries are individually unique, larger in size, more affordable than other Korean bakeries, and tasted fresh and delicious! We have yet to try their drinks so this review only reflects their pastries, the cleanliness of their bakery, and the wonderful warm service. I've been here several times since it opened. The space is large which is great for groups, unlike Tous Les Jour. Also I heard they make their breads in-house which is rare for Korean bakeries because the dough is typically shipped frozen from Korea. I think this speaks for the quality of their breads as all of the ones I had tried were very soft and fresh. I wish, however, they had more varieties of breads as most of the ones I recognized have cream in them. One thing I liked is that they sell their day old bread that didn't sell for 50% off and they still tasted fresh the next day. Overall, their breads are significantly better in quality than TLJ but TLJ has a better selection of breads/pastries. My son and I always walk by this place on our way to Walmart. Very intimidating establishment. Everyone in there is Korean and they seem to cater to Koreans. Im sure they have good but expensive baked goods. I always just go to the one in Assi. At least the owner there is friendly and remembers her customers and what they always order. Went there to check out this cafe as it has recently opened and it's much closer than the one in Schaumburg. Immediately, I'm drawn to the size of this location as it much larger than their other site. Actually, I really can't imagine walking into this place completely full. In terms of food and beverage selection it is the same, yet the quality of the drinks are a little suspect. I ordere a hot caramel latte. I wanted something beyond a latte or hot coffee. After the first sip I knew the taste was off. It tasted a bit burnt. Either the shot was pulled too hot or the temperature of the milk. I'm assuming the former is the issue but the overall drink was way too hot for a latte. This could be related to baristas just learning and I'll check again in the future. Now with all the seating you might think this would be a good place to hangout and do some work. Well, there are plenty of seats but don't expect to find many outlets to keep your laptop going if you want a long working session.
