The staff is friendly and so was my therapist. There was good communication, but the only annoying thing was that my therapist kept cancelling the appointments, so I had to reschedule multiple times. I went in to recover from my pregnancy. After about 2 months, I was much better. You don't realise how far you've fallen as far as muscle strength until you're asked to do simple things. The sessions were good and my therapist tested different areas and gave handouts that I could refer to at home. read more

After dealing with severe and crippling pain that had me unable to many basic things with my wife and daughter, I was fortunate enough to come across this office. I've worked with Allison for the past few months and can't recommend their office enough for any men dealing with pelvic pain. Prior to my first visit I was dealing with severe nerve pain shooting through my groin into my abdomen and down my legs making everything from sitting to walking across a room feel like being stabbed constantly. Each session has been incredible with both helping to identify the root of the problem and education on what I can do to help progress the treatment in between appointments. I've recovered enough to get back to regular walks and routine trips with minimal pain and continue to address even the tiniest flare ups with Allison's help. I can't recommend them enough for anyone experiencing something similar. Alison Aldcroft  is the owner of HANDS-ON who worked with me.  She has good energy; power in her voice and her actions, and she is very funny.  The one-hour session went by very fast. After the session my leg felt very good. Also I didn't take any painkiller pills.!! After three months of constant pain, this was such a relief.  Basically, the first day was mostly counselling. Also, she gave me some stretching to do at home. Even though she didn't do massage or hands-on manipulation that day, my body is clearly changed. It was amazing! I will take physical therapy with Alison two times a week. Now, I have confidence I will recover from my leg pain.  If she will work with me, I believe my pain will be healed. If I will say complain, I have one. It's very difficult phone connection. All the time voice message, so if I need change my appointment time, it is very difficult...hopefully front desk phone system should be always possible to pick up phone from customers. Every now and then we are faced with the frailties of our humaness and must allow ourselves to be confronted with that cold bitter truth. After a minor injury recently I was sent for physical therapy. Asked by my doctor if I had a preference in companies I didn't hesitate. Hands On Therapy had helped me before and they were the best I had ever experienced. The name says it all, these PTs specialize in manual therapy...unlike many who put you on a machine and just walk away. Joleen, one of two Therapists specializing in my type of injury, was assigned to my case. And I couldn't have asked for a better Therapist; strict as a drill sergeant, knowledgeable as a wise sage, yet kind enough to laugh at all my jokes as well as my occasional whining...she didn't even remind me how unyouthful I was anymore. Just as mean, funny, and witty was other Physical Therapist Chantelle who took great care of me when there were schedule conflicts. Seriously, my team @ Hands On Therapy...THE BEST. This is the right place to find precious professionals. I was referred to Hands on Physical Therapy after a car accident that injured my lower back, mid back and neck. I recommend both Lena and Christine Keller. I had the pleasure to receive treatments from Lena right after my accident and she was amazing helping me and working with my car insurance. Unfortunately I had to interrupt the treatment to go to Brasil and had to restart physical therapy again later on. Every time I saw Lena I felt so much better! My pain level decreased tremendously with the use of her ultrasound machine to reduce the inflammation. Her sequence of exercises were all great and very effective. Lena is very kind, caring, skilled and professional. This last time I had to interrupt my sessions because she went to Sweden to visit family and continued with Christine Keller. Christine Keller is another precious physical therapist. She has a very wide and profound understanding of the mechanics of the body and uses many techniques to access, release and adjust. She was very helpful to make me more aware of the way I was breathing and using my lungs, diafragma, pelvis muscles. She is helping me a lot releasing the stress my body experienced along the years with this injury and has been working on my psoas, strengthening my pelvic floor and deep muscles, holding my overstretched ligaments and releasing my muscular spasms. I want to start with the good: Both Lina and Jolene , who treated me, are fantastic people. They treated me well and were extremely supportive and kind. They both have excellent bedside manner. They also referred me to a physician who was able to refer me to a,more appropriate physical therapist. I was looking for a specific type of physical therapy to continue care when I moved to town. I was told Hands On could do it. I had so many problems with their administrative staff, I almost gave up before I started. They didn't seem to understand my benefits, couldn't answer questions or give directions. On my first visit, I got lost and called hoping for help. I gave the woman on the phone the address where I was (just a few numbers off ) and her solution was to give me their address. I already had it , otherwise I wouldn't know I was close . I made appointments with Lina 2-3 x per week and while she was very nice, my pain only got worse. She finally admitted she was not able to do the specific work needed and referred me to Jolene, who has more experience. I had to cancel all the appointments I had scheduled and start over, but I was happy to be moving in the right direction . I signed a release and my former PT sent all my records , including what worked. They said " we don't do that. " Jolene was nice and personable, but focused on yoga poses rather than treating my myofascial scar tissue that was causing my pain . In the end, I wasted 3 months going to to PT that didn't even begin to address the cause of my pain. Fortunately, they referred me to a great physician who was able to help and refer me to an appropriate PT. This office has a shared bathroom and it was dirty EVERY time I came in . read more

I think I have received the best treatment ever! I have been suffering from various pelvic pain dysfunction for almost 12 years and have sought treatment from various gynecologists and urogynecologist. I never thought my vacation in Hawaii, would be the answer to my prayer. I went to Hands On Therapy, a physical therapy office that deals with various treatments including the pelvic floor. The name of my PT is Lena, she's very knowledgeable and has excellent bedside manners. She has 30-plus years of experience and is very much aware of the current treatments for every pelvic pain issue and which one works, and which one doesn't. To my surprise Lena's treatment is so different from the various treatment I had, her approach is so unique, and you could tell the improvement from the initial treatment. I never had this kind of treatment before, considering PT's offices where I live are just like my second home. I would also mention Alison, another therapist who attended to my husband's pelvic floor issue. She is also incredibly knowledgeable and excellent in her field. What an incredible therapist. This is an excellent physical therapy provider. They pay attention to you as you describe your pain/injury. Tim was my therapist and was excellent. He taught me the importance of stretching and posture from the seemingly most insignificant moves like sitting or standing, to more complex strategies to be used in our home and workplace lives. He really brought home the concept of habit changes. His professional communications with my doctor, I am convinced, returned me to work in a safe and expedited way. I was referred to Hands On Physical Therapy about 3 months ago for physical therapy before and after my operation. I am elated that I was referred. I don't believe it would be possible for me to be back to 100% but for Alison's help. She is very friendly and has a wonderful personality. She is also very professional and very learned. She explained what I needed to do and not do very clearly. Before each visit ended she went over what we did, asked me if I had any questions, and provided me with notes and pictures of I was to do before our next visit. I had 10 sessions with two different PTs over a 2-1/2 month period at an average cost of $210/hour with no relief and some additional pain. I know this review will get a reply from management including one of the PTs. A very PC and humble apology and gratitude for the feedback. But then next I get attacked by a so-called former patient who does not know me or the facts and who defends the service provider and tells me to go home back to Canada! I am 70 years old, retired after spending 52 years growing up and later working here and 18 years on the mainland for school and work and retirement. Just a warning to locals: beware of new malihinis who act superior and who are white or privileged professionals or their spinners posing as objective former patients who take criticism of their provider personally. Makes you wonder wassup that within 24 hours of any bad review a former patient attacks the reviewer personally without knowing me or the facts. I let others judge facts I present. I have nothing to gain by yelping. I just wanted to put in my two cents. There are lots of reputable and reliable PT companies to review and choose from. I heartily give this provider 1 star and would appreciate not being attacked by an anonymous cyber bully who might just be the spinner and another spokesperson for HOPT while not supposedly affiliated with them. Then why the personal attack within 24 hours of my first negative review? You consumers choose and judge for yourselves. read more

This is the place to go if you have an injury. I've been to many PTs and Tim Waters is the first person I'll go to with any injury. He's helped me with multiple injuries from overuse surfing and poor posture at work. I would recommend him to anyone and everyone with an injury. One injury I had terrible shoulder and back pain that he fixed in one session. I couldn't believe it. Another injury in a couple sessions. This is a long overdue review. A few years ago, I hurt my left shoulder and I called Hands On but my go to guy Wessel was unavailable so I was assigned Tim Waters. It turns out it wasn't a shoulder injury but a neck injury. Same experience as with Wessel: one on one therapy and lots of easy exercises I can do at home. Pain was greatly diminished almost immediately and what I really like is because the exercises don't require equipment, I can do them at home when I re-injure my neck when I do stupid moves at the gym. Flash forward to this year: I have had two surgeries on my right knee and one on my left for meniscus tears. I have osteoarthritis in both knees but have been mostly pain free because of regular gym exercise. The left knee is the worst: the bones are grinding together and I will need knee replacement at some point and I acquired a bone bruise on the shin. A few weeks after acquiring the bone bruise, I sprained my right knee. I didn't go to the gym for a week but realized that this was much more than a "take it easy at the gym" injury. I had to take the stairs one step at a time. I don't have a car and walking wasn't the problem. It was the bus riding: getting on and disembarking,and sitting and getting up from a seat were almost daily challenges. That and depending on a badly injured left leg to support my right leg would probably accelerate my acquiring that knee replacement. So I called Hands On and was assigned Tim Waters again. He gave me exercises/stretches to do at home and was amazed by my progress at my second visit. He asked what I was doing. I was doing the exercises he had assigned! Again, I recovered quickly and even my personal trainer commented that she's impressed by how quickly I recovered and how much my range of motion has improved. So thanks Tim Waters! I love the work and the staff at Hands On But I hope I don't have to go there for a really long time. read more

I live in L.A. but found this place through web search and sent my mother for hip pain she was experiencing after a fall. She could only walk a block or two whereas previously she could go down the entire length of Kapiolani with no problems. From her description of the exercises it sounds like they were trying to help her holistically as they seem to have been focusing on her increasing scoliosis, which I'm sure would hinder any rehab efforts. They gave her some really good exercises to do at home, which is fortunate because she no longer goes there due to changing her insurance to Kaiser. I'm really glad and impressed that they would focus beyond the knee specifically and tackle issues that could be the root of her pain. It's difficult to see a parent who had been enjoying retirement in paradise become sidelined all of the sudden. And I think many in the medical field kind of slap on the tag of old age/arthritis and give lukewarm effort on trying to get them active again. I'm grateful to have found a place that didn't do that. read more

I have had some experience with HMO p.t. clinics ( post knee and achilles tendon rupture a couple years ago) and was not overly impressed. I developed tendonitis in my 'good' achilles and decided to try Hands On for the chronic pain I was experiencing after running or playing soccer. My physical therapist, Wessel, was great in treating me with a variety of manual techniques and customized exercise programs and I have had good success. Overall the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Very personable and really cared about my recovery. If I didn't have Alison and Hands On, my recovery would not be as good as it has been. April 24, 2019 my second creaky knee was replaced.Today I am four weeks post op and recovering as well as I did last year with right knee and I am sure it is due to the wonderful treatments I received at Hands On.Tim Waters is for me a great therapist.Same as last year Tim is compassionate, caring and explains. More than all that, he listens to my questions and concerns. The receptionist worked hard to make sure I could get required therapy treatments from Tim before his well earned vacation time and she did. I was started going to Hands On by my urologist about 10 years ago. I was very impressed by the competence of the therapist, and the concern not only for my physical problem but also for my general comfort with the whole process. So when I had some (unrelated) back pains a year or so later, I asked for a referral to Hands On. The results - with another staff member - were so good that I never turned back. At my age, there is an assortment of sudden problems with knees, backs,hands, etc. that kept me in touch with Hands On at least once a year, and the concern and effectiveness was always there. When my wife was recommended 6 or 8 years ago to try PT for a flareup of her very bad neuropathy, she started with yet another of the Hands On staff, with good results. When her therapist moved away last year for family reasons, she tried a different very highly recommended osteopathic therapy group and the first session was a disaster - she was in more pain after the session than before. The therapist "knew" what the problem was, and treated the disease, not the patient, as I watched and cringed. She decided to try a session with another therapist at Hands On, and it worked. So, the real beauty of Hands On is that they are careful, apparently, to hire only really competent, concerned staff. Good for them! And good for me, too!! read more

Hands On Physical Therapy is as the name implies, hands on. They were recommended to me by two friends with very high regard. I've been struggling with a knee injury/problem for several months. MRI was negative, so surgery was not indicated. Tim has been working with me and my knee is improving slowly. He has also given me valuable information on how the knee works and what he believes I need to do to rehab my knee. His hands on care during my one hour sessions have been very helpful. I've worked in health care for over 30 years and the professionalism he brings to every session is unsurpassed. Having had PT previously, I know all physical therapy clinics are not created equal. I have had some back problems in the past that were recently exacerbated by carrying my young child a lot. Wessel, my physical therapist, was very thorough, patient, and knowledgeable. He was able to pinpoint the root cause of the problem, and prescribe gentle and effective exercises to minimize the pain and strengthen surrounding areas. My intense pain subsided very soon after my session, and with the exercises my back is much healthier in general. I have had my back "cracked" before, by other therapists, but from what I've learned about my particular case, that seems too drastic a solution. The staff is also very professional and caring. After 8 years of using mostly good sense to keep my shoulder healthy, I am returning to Hands-on and Tim Waters again. I can't say enough good things about Hands-on but here are a few that should matter to any of us who want better health, and some control over guiding that healthy direction. First, Hands-on is just that...hands on...no fancy gizmos/machines. You walk away having learned the proper exercise to help heal. Second, your therapist is dedicated to you...not passing you on to the exercise room, the machine technician, etc. Third, even though I have only known Tim, the office is quite a pleasant (you lose the chaos of Ala Moana). Last, I returned to Hands-on after spending 3 sessions at a well-known physical therapy office that was recommended by my doctor (because it was located in Kailua). The Kailua group made me feel like I was on a 'conveyer belt.' It was very little about me...of the 1hr charged/spent at this office, over 30 miinutes was in an exercise room, doing the same exercises as just about everyone else.
