Small local bar. Friendly people. Limited menu. On a busy highway that connects Greenville and Johnson City.

I was traveling with my dog, who was a bit on edge from the long road trip and barked sporadically whenever people left the restaurant. Despite this, Aiden, my server, welcomed us with genuine kindness and patience. He was gracious, attentive, and completely unfazed by my dog's nerves, which made an already difficult day feel a little lighter. Because I was dining with my dog, I waited outside until the owner noticed me through the glass door. He immediately came out, warmly apologized for not seeing me sooner, and made sure we were comfortable. The apology was unnecessary -- if anything, it was definitely too cold to be dining outdoors, but I had no other option. Their hospitality made all the difference. As someone who lives in Atlanta, has dined at many excellent restaurants, and even wrote food reviews early in my career, I was genuinely blown away by the quality of the food. The wedge salad at The Red Fork is, without exaggeration, the best I have ever had. The fresh herbs, homemade dressing, and the addition of pickled onions created a layered, unexpected, and absolutely delicious flavor profile. I also loved the whipped pimento cheese served with what appeared to be homemade crackers and locally sourced chowchow. It was delightful -- one of those memorable bites you think about later. Their beer selection is also thoughtfully curated, representing a well‑balanced mix of local and regional craft brews -- IPAs, sours, lagers, and more. It's clear that care goes into every detail of the menu and beverage offerings, all locally sourced and seasonally influenced. I honestly can't believe such an outstanding restaurant exists in my hometown Tri‑Cities area. Between the exceptional food, the warm hospitality from both Aiden and the owner, and the overall welcoming atmosphere, The Red Fork provided the perfect end to a long and emotional day of travel. I will absolutely return, and I highly recommend it to anyone passing through or living nearby.

There's some nice outdoor seating as well as an open air covered space that looked really nice and would help with the smoke if that's an issue for you. Now that that fact is out of the way, let's move on! The food and service are both fantastic! Our waitress was a gem. I wish every waitress could be as sweet and friendly as that girl was. The food is not only delicious, it's so reasonably priced in this economy. We got a French dip and a club and then swapped halfway through so we could each try both. No complaints from me! The fries were seasoned and the roast beef in the French dip was chopped, so you weren't trying to bite through strings of beef. The club was jam packed with meats and cheese! It was so good! Our waitress recommended the mushroom Swiss burger with a side of au jus for our next time there. She said that's her favorite and it sounded like a great combo! We will definitely be back. To us it felt like we found a diamond in the rough.

Our Waitress was very sweet and attentive, but everything else was pretty awful. They allow smoking inside and the odor was overwhelming and probably unacceptable to most non smokers. The food was mid at best. Nearly every option was fried and seemed like it just came out of a box and went in the fryer. The Philly cheese steak was flavorless. The fish sandwich was bland. The burgers looked good, but my husband wasn't impressed. We had fried pickles as an appetizer and those were acceptable, but nothing to rave about. Prices were reasonable, but we would not go back.

The crispy potatoes were also good, and the Parmesan spinach tasted okay. However, the meal ended up causing a severe health issue for both my husband and myself. I ordered the fish and chips and was highly disappointed by the food quality. It wasn't the thick, flaky pub-style fish with a light crust you expect; instead, it was thin, heavily breaded, and tasted like a frozen product. I didn't care for the lemon caper sauce or malt vinegar combination and only ate a few small pieces of fish and two bites of the spinach side. That dinner (along with morning coffee with cream) was all I had consumed that entire day. Around midnight, I woke up with agonizing stomach cramps and spent the next several hours alternately vomiting and dealing with severe diarrhea. It was a miserable experience! My husband only tasted a single piece of my fish to see what I meant about the quality, and he had the Parmesan spinach side with his own meal. On our drive home, he had to make an emergency restroom pitstop and suffered from loose stools multiple times through the night, too. Because the fish and the spinach were the only shared items between us, there was clearly a major food safety issue with one of them. Management needs to urgently investigate their seafood storage, handling, or spinach prep temperatures. Drink here for the cold beer, but be extremely cautious with the food!
