We had lunch here. The person taking our order was very helpful and tried to save us money. I had the hamburger, which was unusually good. My wife had the chicken sandwich and she liked it a lot. We were impressed by the number of locals (hard working ranchers) patronizing this place. It could be that this is one of very few restaurants in town, or maybe just the best restaurant in town. If you are driving past Stratton on I 70 and get a craving for a burger, drive right past the various McDonald's/fast food joints and head straight for this place. It is about a football field's distance off the freeway, easy to find and worth a stop. Nothing fancy, but good down home cookin'! read more

We stopped by on our way to Denver after seeing great reviews. It's a cute little spot with a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. Staff was great! We felt like family, and the food was also very tasty. Try the jalapeño poppers with homemade jalapeño jelly. So good! What a fantastic roadside find! Driving thru a pretty desolate area of eastern Colorado in a snow/wind storm, this was an extremely pleasant stop. Wow, the friendliest service. Also, very quick even with a line that formed with people coming in out of the cold. Awesome food... loved the spicy chicken sandwich, pickilos, burgers and nachos. Clean restrooms. What a pleasant surprise! Hadn't eaten anything all day and stopped in for a quick burger and fries. The burger was perfect and I should've taken a picture so that I could've posted it. Very high-quality and tasted great. Got tater tots and a big portion at that, and they were excellent as well. Big surprise was the fresh pie. As I entered I was greeted with a generous and busy smile. I had just passed the lovely state of Kansas and felt sad to let it go but I was welcomed to Colorado by Handi's. Yummy!! What a find! We just stopped by Handi's on our way by in our motorhome. I call first to make sure we could park and there was ample room. Not only are Brandi and Haley super super nice, but this is the hands down best bacon cheeseburger I have ever had in a restaurant! We drive by this area often in our travels. What a great place to eat. I was in town speaking to students in Stratton and the Superintendent offered to pay for my lunch at Handi's. I had the burger and fries with their awesome mixed ice cream with m&ms. Then, in the evening, they made amazing ham and turkey sandwiches with tater tots. I just finished a 3 week trip across the U.S., from NYC to San Francisco.  Along the way, I ate at about 20 restaurants, all highly rated by Yelp (except for Costco).  For me, this is the best restaurant of them all.  Sure, I had better food; but they are at much higher price points (I ate across the price spectrum -- from the amazing hot dogs (Costco at $1.50) to $60 entrees in Jackson, WY.  The bottom-line... Handi's does the obvious really really well -- fresh, decent ingredients; cooked well; at a very reasonable price. read more
