You know a place is good when it's PACKED on a random Thursday. To be fair, I don't think this area gets a lot of foot traffic, but it is still pretty good! We started off with guac and chips and a mojito and a margarita. The guac was so good and I enjoyed the jalapeño in it! Nice kick! The margarita was great and if you want a jumbo, it's only $14 and it's HUGE! The carne asada tacos were good, but honestly a little dry. The meat is thinly sliced and cut short so it gets a bit dry. But still, with the sauces and sides (or at least the sides from our fajitas), you get a moistness. The fajitas came out sizzling and tasty! I love the sound it makes. That's how you know your fajitas are perfect. The peppers and onions were soft and seasoned well. But again, the beef is still dry! I love the vibe in here. So cute and quaint. Definitely not the nicest Mexican restaurant I've been to (look wise), but they had super fun seats and decor! This is a great neighborhood spot clearly! Ultimately it was good. (The only reason for a lost star, was that my (large) water glass went completely empty....after food was dropped, the wait staff didn't really stop by until we flagged them.) They were one of the very few that was open on a Sunday evening but I have definitely had better. The service felt slow, the food was mediocre. Maybe I had high hopes because we ate at Tequilas in Goodland Kansas..... but this one didn't compare! At all. I would highly recommend eating at the Tequilas over in Goodland.... My friend and I were traveling from Colorado to Kansas, figured we stop for lunch. It just happened that it was a Sunday afternoon, likely after church as there was a pretty big crowd. That said, we were seated quickly, ordered our food and were promptly served. I had the Arroz con Vegetales. Ooo it was delicious! A little on the salty side but the smoky flavor was scrumptious. I wish they had a lunch version, because there was a lot of food, but had I thought to bring an ice pack, I might have taken it home with me. My friend ordered a tamale with rice and beans from the lunch menu. She said it was great. She is dairy-free and requested no cheese--they didn't forget. (Yay!) I'd definitely go back to this restaurant if I was traveling that way again. We had to wait a bit to pay the bill, but given they were busy this isn't too surprising. read more

We decided to stop in Burlington for the night on a long road trip. We called closed to closing to time place an order because we were starving and everything was closed or closing except fast food. The staff were friendly and accommodating and had our food ready on time. When we finally got back to the hotel we were pleased with the meals. The guacamole was A+. We came on a Sunday afternoon, not much open except franchises next to I-70. This was an excellent meal of authentic Mexican food. I had the California burrito, my wife had the Jalisco burrito. Both came with a good helping of a Spanish rice that melted in our mouths. The burritos had a nice white sauce on them. This is almost like an art show with the three dimensional and colorful. murals/carvings as head boards for the booths. All the furniture came from the State of Jalisco in México. read more

I yelped a place in Burlington and this came up 4 Stars so we decided to give it a try. We were driving from LA heading to KC and living in LA I know Mexican food and this place reminded me of a friend's grandma's cooking. Simple but good. We also ordered the queso which was a little watery but thickened as it cooled. The crunch thicker yellow corn tortilla Chips and Salsa were good too. The the meal we each got crispy beef taco, which was good but not great. I personally love deep fried ones but this taco was good enough, esp with the queso and the pickled jalapeños. Again taste like something I can make at home. Good ratio of beef to taco and not too overly seasoned. The quesadillas was our favorite. Not big but loaded with shredded chicken and melted cheese. My partner liked his Margarita. It was pretty big. Tasted like a mix vs fresh lime juice but it was still good. I wish I were more hungry cause I would have loved to try their chili relleno and chimichanga. I hope to pass by here once again in my life. And Place was cute!! Service was fast and friendly. I love Tequilas! I've worked in Burlington several times before but never stayed overnight. Such a great find! Previous reviewer Monika was spot on. Great atmosphere, delicious food and the prices! A combination platter with a relleno, taco and tostada was only $12 after tax. I thought I had been teleported back to 2000 when I saw the tab. And no shrinkflation either! Portions were generous. Passing through the area, I asked a local which spots they'd recommend for dinner, and without hesitation, Tequilas was the answer. I decided to check it out, and for small town way past it's heyday, I wish only the best for Tequilas! The interior is vibrant with the colors of the culture, the menu - - expansive, the prices, beyond reasonable, and the food. . .it was great! My daughter and I both ordered plates, and everything was fresh and flavorful. The salsa dropped at the table with a basket of chips is as good if not better than I've had anywhere, the beans were on point, and the arroz is incredible. The sauces all taste house made and authentic. We also ordered a fried ice cream to cap off the meal and it was great. The price point makes the food an incredible value. If I ever find myself passing through, I will make it a point to stop in. In short, this restaurant is way better than any Mexican restaurant east of the rockies has business being, and I'm not mad at it. If you got a hankering, it's worth the short detour from the interstate for a decent meal. read more

Food and service were great. Some items might be a little too spicy for those who don't like the heat. I had the tacos alambre, which is clearly intended to be hot, and I loved it. Another guest had chili Colorado and it was way too spicy for them. 3rd person had beef and bean burrito - good and not very spicy. There are not a lot of restaurants in this town. This restaurant was recommended by another local restaurant that is closed on Sunday evening. A clerk at the hotel also recommended it. I ordered a beer and a cheese dip to start. They brought chips and salsa. The chips were not warm and a bit thick for my taste. The salsa is average with no apparent fresh ingredients such as cilantro. The cheese dip arrived and was hot. It was flavorful. It was very thin as hot cheese dip can be. As it cooled it remained thin and watery. I explained what I was talking about to my waiter and I asked him if that is the way it always was as it should have gotten thicker as it cooled. He looked at me blankly and walked away. He came back and told me that if I didn't like it I didn't have to pay for it. I again asked him if it was always thin like this and he said "yes." I asked to speak with a manager. The manager - Gabriel - came over. He did not smile and looked irritated. I asked him the same question. I showed him how watery it was. He said that was how they have serve it since they opened and he could take it away if I didn't want it. I said he could take it. DO NOT ORDER THE CHEESE DIP! I have had cheese dip all across the USA and in Mexico. I have bought cheese dip and I have made it. They obviously skimped on the "cheese" and watered it down. It was what I was looking forward to here. Very disappointing. My main course was a fajita quesadilla. The refried beans should have been scalding hot and the cheese should have been melted. They were somewhat hot and the cheese was not melted. The rice was not hot either. The chicken in the fajita had decent - there was grease on the plate from the chicken and vegetables. (See photo.). This food was amazing! The salsa is fresh and spiced just right. I had a pork tamale that was so tender and good, the masa melted in my mouth. The red sauce that topped it was excellent! Come Here!!! Food is amazing, service also -- large portions (seriously) .. they don't skimp in the sides (guac & sour cream). Try the Tequila Fajitas ... It could probably feed three people... Has steak, chicken, shrimp, chorizo ~ plus rice and beans. Queso is great ~ salsa also ... like all good Mexican restaurants... I bet it's just a little different each time. You can't beat the price!! We are thankful we don't live closer because we would come here to often I think. The restaurant is large and the bar too. We did not try the margaritas... But we will. Visually, I was immediately in love with this place. Every chair, bar stool, table, booth and on and on is covered in gorgeous bright multi-colored art. Flowers, parrots, village scenes etc. From what I could see, no two of the several dozen were exactly the same, and the overall effect was cheerful and uplifting after a long day on the road. The prices are reasonable, and the food is perfectly fine. The salsa is the super mild variety probably preferred by many local customers. My husband is convinced there was no tequila in his margarita, but who knows. They have an extensive kid's menu with both mini Mexican meals and the usual kid's menu suspects (chicken strips, corn dog etc.) Burlington itself is rather a sad little town, but if you find yourself here this isn't a bad place to stop for food. read more
