Everyone had a really great time picking their colors and doing the glass blowing. The pumpkins came out really great and the pickup process was super easy! My one complaint would be that we were such a large group (we had 2 groups back to back) and I was in the 2nd group- you could tell the staff got tired (very understandable since they had to make 20+ pumpkins) and they didn't do a great job explaining the process ahead of time. On the upside, they were great about talking you through it in the moment. It was pretty dummy proof since the staff did most of the process for you, I don't think I can say I actually did "glass blowing" which I think is fine. Overall, would recommend this for events (but maybe smaller groups) and the staff is really skilled. They have a shop up front which I would recommend checking out!

This is a very popular holiday market that happens annually at the Richmond Raceway. There is also…read morea market in the spring, but I usually go to the winter market to get some holiday shopping done. There are a wide variety of vendors - hundreds of businesses fill the exhibit halls. Clothing, specialty food and beverages, jewelry, artwork, crafts, toys, home decor, and more. You can usually find something unique for yourself or others. It takes at least two hours to visit all of the vendors, but there are several areas with benches and chairs if you need to take a break. There are also a few vendors selling lemonade and snacks to eat while you wander. Each vendor is so different, but they were all friendly and eager to help.

This was our first time working on a wheel and we had a ball. Our instructor, Nila, was super helpful and provided clear instructions throughout the hour. The class has a max of 12 people and the space is well setup to allow for a personalized experience. You get to choose what color glaze gets applied. They fire your piece for you and you can pick it up in three weeks. There's a small parking lot, but I'd leave some extra time in the event you need to find street parking. We came on a Sunday and didn't have any issues finding street parking a few doors down. We'll definitely be back!

Still Life Studios has become one of my favorite places in the city to take ceramic classes. I like how the classes are organized because clay, glaze, tools, and kiln firings are all included in the cost of the class. The space is huge and has multiple tables and rooms to practice your ceramic skills. They even have a semi-outdoor garage area for potters to set up in. In addition to the great space, the staff are all super helpful. The owner, Jess, and teacher, Brooklin, make the space very inviting and informative. It's a great environment to ask questions and be inquisitive about the process. Also, all the other potters who go there, whether members or students, are happy to share their knowledge with newcomers. I would recommend taking the "Bowl in One" class first for just $60 before committing to a whole month of classes. But I promise, once you start at Still Life, you won't ever want to stop.

Located in the quaint, lively, historic retail district of Carytown, Merrymaker proudly holds the title of Richmond's oldest stationery shop. The space itself is small-but-mighty, with everything from locally-made greeting cards to an impressive selection of planners, calendars, and notepads in literally every shape, size, and color. They also have rack upon rack of specialty wrapping paper, and an entire corner of the store is dedicated to custom stationery. At the front of the shop, you'll find a jawdropping selection of pens (including fountain pens) in every shape, color, and price range. Of course, I couldn't leave here without a small notebook (or two), a couple of lovely postcards to send to friends back home, and the determination to start my own fountain pen hobby "someday." Bonus points for the super friendly woman at the front counter!

It's curated with love. The people who work here are extremely passionate and helpful. I came here with my manager and we had a blast. She ended up getting a few postcards and a travel planner. I fell in love with a small journal I got for about $16. I loved the journal because it reminded me of the Canal Saint-Martin, I'm excited to use it for card game scoring. There is really something for everyone here. There are lined journals, blank ones, squared one, and more. There is a huge variety of planners with different layouts. It felt like they had something for every preference. Not to mention, the fanciest pens I've ever laid my eyes on. I highly recommend checking this local gem out.
