I hate having to come online to complain about a trusted business, but such is the way of the world these days.
I purchased an Anderson storm door from Hancock. While it was being installed, I was told by the carpenter that Anderson isn't what it once was, and couldn't be counted on. I'd already learned that to some degree when its relatively new windows in the house purchased started going off track. When I called Anderson, I was told to "watch the video" to repair them.
When the new door was in place, I didn't try the lock. When I put in the screen a few months later, I knew I'd need it, but the lock would not engage at all. I informed Hancock and was told I'd have to contact Anderson. Though on my receipt, the knob and handle were separate items, I was told Hancock would not service it. This is the response I got:
"Unfortunately, this has become a common problem with a lot of manufacturers. We used to provide service for these years ago, but because of quality issues and problems we've stopped completely. Sorry you're having to deal with this. All the best to you."
I was told to look for the 800 number on the hinge side of the door. I examined the entire door and could find nothing.
I've run into this problem more than once. Why are reputable dealers selling products they can't stand behind. Word is that Anderson has declined significantly and yet here they are selling something that lacks quality. Now what? There's nothing on the door that even says Anderson though Hancock claims it is.
As consumers, we need to stop buying shoddy from companies that can't back what they sell. That's it for me and Hancock. read more
