Took a recent rugelach class and want to offer some feedback. The set up was very nice and appealing. The presenters were very pleasant and the staff who cleaned up and served were very attentive. I'd like to give some feedback for purpose of considerations to improve on the attendees overall experience. 1. There were not enough Kitchen- Aid appliances . We had to wait for 25+ mins and basically sit around as there was only 4 appliances to share amongst a group of 15. Please keep in mind you are paired with another single person which is great , however still not enough appliances to accommodate class size. 2. I felt they could have gone over the recipe/ingredients and provided a printout card for future use. At this point, anyone can Google a rugelach recipe. The ingredients are premeasured by staff in advance , which is great, but a recipe printout would have been nice for future use when preparing at home. 3.Brunch time was part of the need to fill in for time needed, to allow for dough rising, and chilling the filling. I would have preferred educational opportunities about best tip practices for making rugelach, and other ways to prepare rugelach with filling varieties. Again no recipe for filling printout either. This is a wonderful way to connect with others that enjoy pastry/cooking, however it lacked in some main points that overshadowed the experience. Too many people at one time is impersonable plus lack of appliances to accommodate class size. People standing around while waiting for others to prep dough which is a process in itself was awkward. Either minimize the class size or provide enough appliances needed to prepare. A pricey event at 151.00 per person, with a class size of 15 people. This is an educational investment that one hopes to learn from and take home to share with family and friends. In some cases, such as this situation, less is more. Less class-size , and adequate appliance accommodations , with recipe printout. This adds a more personal touch than the latter. Thank you for the overall experience, it was lovely , just sharing my experience and food for thought. Mahalo

Our dumplings from The Dumpling Class! We each made 12.

I just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you to the Hana Kitchens team for such a wonderful experience! My partner and I had an amazing time at the Dumpling Class in June. Not only was Chef Britney THE BEST instructor (she's so funny, informative, and patient! PLUS her food was amazing!), but the team at Hana Kitchens was also welcoming, fun, and so thoughtfully ran the event from start to finish. Navigating health issues while trying to enjoy events like this can be tricky, but I felt genuinely included and cared for the entire time. From having a chair ready when I needed it to offering a dumpling filling I could eat despite my food intolerances to even having N/A drink options available, every thoughtful detail made such a difference. I used to be a huge foodie before some new allergies hit me, and hearing Chef Britney say, "I made something you can eat!" honestly meant more than I can say. I truly wasn't expecting any accommodations and would've been happy just to participate, but that gesture let me relax and enjoy the experience like everyone else, without having to ask for adjustments or draw attention to myself. Thank you again for creating such a warm, inclusive environment. I'm so grateful and already looking forward to the next class! Highly recommend these classes to everyone! Some tips: Parking entrance is on Bethel St. (you can plug in 847 Bethel St. to your nav to get there). The parking attendant told us that you can press either button upon entry (Harbor Court or CC) and it'll be fine. We parked on the fifth floor and took the elevator down to the third floor and waited outside. They let us in about 15 minutes before the class started.

This was one of the finest meals we've had in the five years we have lived on Oahu! Chef Ricky Goings is very talented and clearly enjoys his craft. He prepared a feast for the 14 of us who happily paid for the privilege of sitting at his table. The team kept the wine glasses full and each empty dish was removed in a timely manner. Chef is a colorful character who served each dish with a generous dash of humor. We recognize that this review may increase the competition for the seats in the next meal that he chooses to serve; that's a chance we're willing to take, as it was so good! Note! There is no signage,! We buzzed the building security guard, who kindly escorted us upstairs. Take the parking elevator to the third floor, and you will find your way to Hana Kitchens. Cash tips for the Chef and servers are greatly appreciated.

A Review of Hana Kitchens Chef's Table: A Night in Rome Chef Andrea Onetti was extraordinary as always, skilled, experienced, animated, authentic. He brings the heart of Rome to Honolulu. Chef Andrea generously shares his expertise, techniques, and personal memories offering guests not just a fabulous meal but an immersive experience. You listen, learn, & laugh as you savor each course. The venue is wonderful, the staff warm and knowledgable, and the experience is truly memorable. The five course meal, paired with exquisite wine tasting was a culinary journey through Rome. Tickets are released each month on the Hana Kitchens Website & go quickly. Chef Andrea & the Hana Kitchen staff are exceptional & never disappoint!

My goal this year is to do more experiences and if I have to do it solo, I shall! Now I'm a huge sucker for pasta so it only makes sense to learn how to make it from scratch right? Ok not really but I saw that they feed you afterwards so food here I come! You would have to follow their IG page for any updates regarding their classes. They'll let you know what classes will be coming up and when tickets will be released -- do note that spots are very limited (16 seats?) so be quick with purchasing. They're planning to expand and build another kitchen in the future which could mean more seats and classes. Once your purchase is confirmed, you can find all the details on their website. Ideally it would be nice if there was a follow-up email with instructions after purchase but their website is pretty straightforward as well Parking is located in the Harbor Court Plaza. It's $1/hour but the maximum on the weekend is $3 and classes run from 5 PM - 8:30/9:00 PM so no issue with that. MAKE SURE TO BRING CASH FOR PARKING. Park on the 5th floor and then take the elevator to the 3rd floor and you can enter through the double glass doors. If it's locked, don't fret. Just patiently wait outside and they'll come out when it's time. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes because you'll be working on your feet the entire time Class itself was pretty fun! It was a bit awkward for me at first since I was solo but everyone was so nice and next thing you know, we're helping each other out and cracking jokes. You have plenty of time to make as much pasta as you want. Once time is up, everything is kept in the refrigerator and then it's time to feast! As the chef is cooking, he tells you different stories and interacts with one another. I absolutely loved every course he served us and halfway through, I was so stuffed but I powered through because you couldn't resist. He evens offers for anyone to take home any leftovers and by the end of the class, you're basically taking home the whole kitchen -- jk but I recommend bringing a bag for easy transportation. My only gripe was the follow up communication. There wasn't a follow up email regarding your class after the initial purchase where it says they'll be "in contact shortly regarding the services you have ordered". This isn't too big of a deal since all their info is found easily on the website. Towards the end of class, they mentioned that they'll email us instructions on how to cook our pasta but I didn't receive one until about a week after? By then, I already googled how to cook fresh pasta. Minor things but for the price you pay, I'd say it's worth every penny because of the amount you get to take home!

Our first time making pasta from scratch!

My husband and I had a fantastic date night at Hana Kitchens. We did the pasta class with Chef Andrea Onetti. He was super informative, easily approachable to ask the dumb questions I had and just overall fun. He made sure we were all on the same track-- I found that to show a lot about our instructor. I've been in a totally different scenario like in a ski class and one person is literally struggling versus the group "getting it". Chef made sure we were in it together. Anyway we had so much pasta to take home afterwards and to enjoy at home but also enough to eat after the pasta making was done. You can tell it is not Chef Onetti's first time making pasta. (It was ours though!) the class was paired with wine so that was awesome to enjoy as a couple and let loose. I have some sillier photos of us in the kitchen but I don't think my husband wants that on the internet! Haha Okay so they provided to us additionally some fresh panna cotta at the end of the class (what a nice touch)! I don't think I've ever had panna cotta until then but now I know it is bomb! (I usually go for flan or creme brûlée at a restaurant--but now I know it tastes similarly in a way) Take the class! Have fun! Be opened to learning and meeting new people/friends in the class. We had so much fun!

On a Saturday afternoon we headed to Harbor Court, the former Palomino space, to take a Mediterranean Cooking Class. While Hana Kitchen has been operating in other states, they are still relatively new to Hawaii, acting as a commercial kitchen rental, an incubator, a ghost kitchen space, show kitchen, and hosting cooking classes. After checking in, we were taken to the commercial kitchen prep area. Everything was clean, and we were given aprons, as we staked out a work station. The time started with Registered Dietitian and PhD Bannan talking about the Mediterranean diet and the nutritional benefits of some of the key ingredients we would be using--if tahini isn't already part of your diet, go buy yourself a bottle! Then owner of Middle Eats and our teacher Askar started his demo on how to make a simple and delicious falafel mix. Recipe in hand we waited for our turn to measure our ingredients and use a food processor to blend up our mix. Once everyone had chance to make their mix, we shaped the falafels and then let them rest in a fridge. This took about half our time. Askar then demoed for us how he makes hummus, baba ghanoush, and Egyptian salad. With each dish he talked about where he likes to get his ingredients and what he looks for in each ingredient. I'm not sure if we were supposed to try these recipes ourself, but Askar had to move on to shallow frying our falafels. Each pair made at least a dozen falafels so it did take some time to get them all cooked. And finally it was time to eat! We each received a plate with falafels, hummus, baba ghanoush, salad, and the same pita Askar uses for Middle Eats. Other treats included a choice of either white wine, red wine, or hibiscus tea and baklava for dessert. After the class, were inspired enough to buy all the ingredients and recreate the meal (with the addition of grilled lamb chops) for our extended family. If you want to try a Hana Kitchen Cooking Class, they have different types, follow them in IG for their schedule. Our class was $151.37 per person and classes are on Saturdays from 4-8 pm.

We recently had our reception for our wedding at Hana's Kitchen. Working with Angela and Jo has been a pleasure in these past three months. Angela made sure that we had all the details and set up just exactly how we wanted it. We were able to bring in all of our vendors and the set up was beautifully done. I would recommend them to anybody for any events or occasions. We will be forever grateful for the experience that we got in this beautiful venue making our wedding reception vision come true. Thank you again, Angela for all your hard work these past couple of months you are truly appreciated. Sincerely, The Mangums

We went to the Quesabirria Class for date night and we had the best time. The class was so much fun, Chef Collin was knowledgeable and down to earth, and the staff were all so welcoming and helpful. The location is convenient and comfy, and the cooking space is beautiful. We learned new skills, cooked, drank, ate, and ate and ate lol. We definitely plan to take another class!

We went to Hana Kitchens for our Office Team Bonding Event, and it was great!!!! We had a large group of 18, and they were able to accommodate us. The space was beautiful, and the team there was friendly and attentive. The chef was funny, too. We all got to make our own pasta and take it home. Then, the chef cooked 3 dishes for us and incorporated us into different aspects of the process, teaching us techniques and tips along the way. We got to eat all 3 dishes that we prepared together with wine tasting, and a dessert was served too at the end. The experience was more than we imagined and definitely a MUST whether with friends, family, a date etc.. I would do it again and recommend them to all!!!

Gnocchi starting ingredients

Took a gnocchi cooking class with my friend. They are located at the Harbor court downtown where the old palominos restaurant used to be. Andreas the chef is fun, tentative, and generous. We each had our own space. We were given aprons, gloves, and fresh iced water. The cooking class took place in the back in a commercial kitchen. It was pretty cool to see and cook in a commercial kitchen. They are working on their show kitchen where future classes will be held. Andreas is Italian from Rome. So he is authentic and knows how to cook good food. The class was really fun and interactive. We were right by the oven and stove so we got to see a lot.In addition to learning how to make gnocchi we were able to try a Roman style gnocchi which tasted like a polenta to me. It was made with semolina flour. We also were served fresh cucumber slices topped with feta cheese, and sun dried tomatoes, and fried fresh mozzarella balls (delish)! We each got to make and shape our own gnocchi. We were able to take some home and enjoy gnocchi that Andreas made earlier for us. To finish we enjoyed panna cotta. It was some of the best Iv'e had. Dinner included 2 glasses of wine. We started with a white and ended with a red. Both were great selections! I would highly recommend taking a cooking class with Andreas it was great!!

Dear friends of mine planned a day for us with Lisa, who made everything look effortless! From the incredible setting in Lisa's spacious kitchen to the actual sit down meal served with a stunning view of Diamond Head, ocean and sky --- it was flawless! Our custom plant-based menu began with making dessert. Why you ask? A chef knows you start with the item that takes the longest to make. Everyone got to help make the strawberry peach fruit crisp, from slicing the fruit to making the crumble topping. The forbidden black rice with herbs, cashews and coconut was next, followed by green beans with a toasted sesame "dressing" and the ubiquitous miso soup with wakame, shimeji mushrooms and silken tofu. Meanwhile, Lisa also whipped up pan fried tofu with a scallion chili ponzu. Deeelicious!! Lisa patiently and eloquently explained the ingredients and where she sourced them. We tasted an amazing sesame seed found only in Kyoto and a flavorful soy sauce with a round mouthful that made all others pale in comparison. Needless to say we were awestruck and enlightened. Every bite was savored and every flavor stamped in memory! I'll not soon forget this amazing experience with a trained nutritionist who turned cooking into a culinary adventure! Even the pictures may not tell the whole story as all the ingredients held their own and shined in a way that turned the ordinary into extraordinary. The August class "Cooking Local Favorites: Korean" was taught by Chef Grant Sato, winner of the 2015 Global Taste of Korean International Cooking Competition. In the 4 hour class we cooked 3 recipes: Soondubu Jjigae (soft tofu stew) with tofu made from scratch!, Miyeokguk (Korean seaweed soup with beef), and Dakjjim (braised chicken with noodles and vegetables) Chef Sato's competition winning dish. Classes are held at the Culinary Institute of the Pacific's beautiful new kitchens on 4500 Diamond Head Road. Parking is right in front of the building and you are advised to wear close toed shoes and long pants. You can bring an apron if you want (I did not). All ingredients and cooking equipment are provided. Masks are required for participants. Upon arrival you are given the recipes and assigned to a station, 2 students to a station. My son took the class with me and we got the station right in front of the demo area which was nice. The stations each have two sinks, a stove, knives, pans, and the assistants bring you the ingredients for each dish. Chef Sato gives a demonstration at the front of the kitchen and everyone watches, then goes back to their stations to replicate what he just showed. The 4 hours pass quickly, there is much to do. I even learned how to cut up a whole chicken (my son would not touch it.) One of the things I really liked about this was finding out what exact ingredients Chef uses in his cooking so I took lots of pictures of the products. The resulting dishes were all delicious and we packed them up and took them home. There was a lot of food, enough for several dinners. I will definitely take more classes here! Here's the food we chose for the lesson: Team Veggies: *Balinese spring rolls *Gado gado salad rolls *Vegetarian Nasi goreng *Cauliflower chicken wings with buffalo sauce Team Chicken: *Balinese chicken spring rolls *Chicken Nasi goreng *Chicken satay My biggest recommendation is to start the cooking lesson early morning like 7am or 8am because you'll be cooking for 4-5 hours. Some of the sauces to add in the meats are tedious to prepare so Loliana premade it in advance to help cut down the hours but she will show what ingredients was needed to make it. It was a really fun hands on cooking experience! The dish that I enjoyed making the most was the Chicken satay! I would most recommend trying out this cooking experience!

I haven't tried them all but Baker's Heart have many variety of cookies made of quinoa and flax seeds and they even have a pack of individual desserts such as brownies, lemon bars, scones, Okinawan sweet potato, haupia, tiramisu and more. They make perfect gifts, omiyage, favors, office gifts and for events. It's only $5! Right now the hotels are closed and they are usually do business with them! You won't be disappointed with their bake goods! You will feel great supporting them knowing you are helping a good cause. Their mission is "to transform the lives of those who is facing barriers to employment by providing vocational training in a healing and nurturing environment creating pathways to job placements. " Proceeds will help expand their culinary training & apprenticeship program. I just love the espresso with white chocolate chips. The cookies are uniform in size and is pretty crispy since they are on the thinner side but the quinoa and flax seeds makes it so different and crunchy. The cranberry one is good and one with the ulu flour is great since it's gluten free. The peanut butter one was okay in my opinion. Scones was good and comes in a pair in a nice container. One day I need to try the individual desserts like tiramisu and brownies! Cookies make great gifts because of the shelf life. Cookies taste yummy cold when I keep them in the refrigerator :) They are still working out the catering side Touch A Heart but wanted to share mainly on the Baker's Heart side. See their website Or can email with questions to info@touchahearthawaii.org. Thanks for reading my review ! :)
