We've had Bebe Han as our primary pediatrician for both our kids for about 2 or 3 years. Dr. Han is extremely sweet, he even visited us in the hospital when my daughter was born to check up on us. Every time I've gone to visit, my kids have been seen by the actual doctor himself, not a nurse practitioner or some resident that I've never seen before, but the doctor. I think it's important that kids have a doctor that they know and trust. I know when I was a kid I just went to the clinic and got whoever picked the next in line. I can see that there is not as much money in the pediatric profession so finding actual pediatricians instead of clinics is getting harder and harder. Indeed this harkens to a different time when a family doctor was somebody real and personal.
His style and philosophy falls well in line with mine in that I too fear the over- prescribed, and blind use of anti-biotics causes a plethora of unforeseen side effects and sometimes natural healing is best. Except... well sometimes my kids needed anti-biotics for ear infections, and bronchitis, and were sick for several weeks longer than they should have been until I took the kid to a clinic doctor who just gave her antibiotics and it was over in a couple days. There was another case of really bad eczema, Dr. Han prescribed moisturizing cream and it went on getting worse for a couple weeks longer. Ultimately a second doctor prescribed a steroid cream and everything got back under control. Now we just maintain with the moisturizing cream.
In spite of a couple misses, I still take my kids to Dr. Han and will continue to do so. I will also exercise my right to seek a second opinion of other professionals if I feel he makes the wrong call. Definitely with babies, you really can't over-prescribe medications, but you also can't let them stay sick so it's a fine line that needs to be walked. read more
