When he asked about my diet…read moreand I told him my ethnicity, he paused for like 5 minutes, and then he stereotypically guessed "rice", by looking at my appearance and skin color during one physical checkup. To be honest, I haven't visited him since 2022. But during the last two or three physical checkups in the past years, he kept saying the same old advice, which was not super helpful and personalized. He also couldn't identify a life-threatening stomach issue that my cousin had back in 2018 or 2019. And so, my cousin had to go to Presbyterian Hospital for urgent medical care, and luckily he was treated well there despite a weeks long hospital stay. Anyways, at first, when HE WAS MY PEDIATRICIAN both at the old address (10110 Spain NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111) and at the current address (3825 Eubank Blvd NE A, Albuquerque, NM 87111), for more than 20 years, he was doing alright, and he was initially helpful. But eventually over several years, the quality of his care and assistance declined a lot. I don't know why the New Mexico Medical Board didn't strip him of his doctor's license a LONG TIME AGO, especially due to his incompetence, ignorance, and age-related downfall.

Dr Sumner is getting older, and as much as I respect him as a man & Doctor, he doesn't always remember past visits anymore. His Nurse Practitioners are awesome & friendly but you don't always see them as they have multiple offices. They have allergy testing right in the office for allergy shots. All of this to say, all of my teens requested of us to take them to a different office and we responded by doing so. Office is *always* CLEAN and friendly.

Pediatric... my teens still see pediatricians and will probably do so until they are 18…read more After Hours Pediatrics (AHP) has at least 3 locations, and is your same day (95% of the time) place to be seen. The offices sometimes fill up fast, so there are no appointments left. They are open until 10 p.m. so your child can be seen after standard "banking hours" or urgent cares are closed. Their Holly office has a bit contemporary in design- they use cement benches for parents' seating in their treatment & waiting rooms, as they are easier to sanitize. But they are not necessarily as 'welcoming' to some. Personally, I appreciate knowing they clean & sanitize often. In their treatment rooms they do have standard treatment tables for the sick child. Rooms are very basic in decor. Which can get boring to look at, but bring a book to read or toy to play with. Or if you have kids like mine they will entertain you with their humor... My teens have seen multiple doctors and Nurse Practitioners in the Holly Office. Each one is very attentive, listens to you & the patient. Asks questions to get to the reason of the visit. Helps where needed and sends you on your way. The only thing that would make AHP better is if they had their own X-ray dept. If they see you for broken bones they will have to "refer you" to your choice of hospital or ER X-Ray Departments, not to sit in the ER itself. Depending on the time you are seen by them. Clean office, friendly staff. I love our new choice in pediatrics...

I was given a hand out regarding steam and humidifiers which quite honestly is a joke to give to a concerned parent. I had to beg for something to help her to which she was given an albuterol script. Well she also ended up having an ear infection and bronchitis requiring medication that was received elsewhere. Please save your sanity, copay, and children and seek care elsewhere, the office may be beautiful but your child will not receive the care they need until it's too late and they don't care because all they want is appointments filled. There is no care for little humans.

The reality is that our school does not require Vaccine A, and the colleges we have looked into do not require Vaccine B. The way you presented this to my child led her to believe that she had no choice but to receive both vaccines in order to return to school and eventually attend college. Is this how you routinely speak to your young patients? Do you regularly present recommendations as if they are mandatory requirements? I also find it concerning that the conversation focused so heavily on administering additional vaccines without clearly distinguishing between medical recommendations and actual school or college requirements. Parents deserve accurate, transparent information so they can make informed decisions for their children. Based on this experience, I have lost confidence in this clinic. I expected honest, evidence-based communication, not statements that my child perceived as misleading. This experience has caused me to question whether this clinic prioritizes patients' best interests, or mere profit.
