The girls at the front desk do a GREAT job of ignoring you also, I had to stand at the counter and lean into their personal space to be acknowledged. Had a specific appointment time but that doesn't mean anything to them. I write this as I sit here waiting 30 minutes PAST my appointment time with no one in the waiting room. This will be my last visit.

That being said, I'll be finding another pediatrician (probably After Hours Pediatrics--I've heard good things) because I find the old-school medicine and closed-mindedness annoying. I've gotten condescending head shakes and glares when I mention co-sleeping, vaccinating on a selective schedule, not introducing solids until 6 months old, baby led weaning, etc. I understand that doctors went to school for this kind of thing (20 years ago--and a lot has changed), but please don't recommend rice cereal as a first food when I JUST read several articles about how terrible it is for babies. Not to mention talking about weaning a breastfed baby at 9 months old(?!). I would recommend Dr. Janet Samorodin if you're less of a crunchy parent and more traditional. She is great with kids and all of the employees are very friendly.

We got an appt the next day at Montgomery. My kid saw Jeff McCollum, CNP. My kid typically hides behind me from the doc. He becomes so stressed that he is hard to diagnose. He is typically very articulate and outgoing, but he doesn't respond to docs, becomes very anxious. Doc Jeff walked into the examination room, introduced himself, and my boy immediately started a conversation with him. Jack loves "Doc Jeff". It is wonderful when your kid "is himself" with a doc! Constipation, it's a very sensitive topic and my kid wasn't embarrassed as we discussed the issue... trust. Jeff McCollum's diagnoses was very clear. It is the first time that I have walked away feeling confident with advice about this issue. Follow up in a month. The appt was at 8:30 am. Shortly after opening in the morning. There was no wait, so no anticipation. The staff was very kind and no one talked to my kid in a "patronizing kid voice". My kid wants to go back. I'm serious, he want's to go to the doc now.

To be honest, I haven't visited him since 2022. But during the last two or three physical checkups in the past years, he kept saying the same old advice, which was not super helpful and personalized. He also couldn't identify a life-threatening stomach issue that my cousin had back in 2018 or 2019. And so, my cousin had to go to Presbyterian Hospital for urgent medical care, and luckily he was treated well there despite a weeks long hospital stay. Anyways, at first, when HE WAS MY PEDIATRICIAN both at the old address (10110 Spain NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111) and at the current address (3825 Eubank Blvd NE A, Albuquerque, NM 87111), for more than 20 years, he was doing alright, and he was initially helpful. But eventually over several years, the quality of his care and assistance declined a lot. I don't know why the New Mexico Medical Board didn't strip him of his doctor's license a LONG TIME AGO, especially due to his incompetence, ignorance, and age-related downfall.

The offices sometimes fill up fast, so there are no appointments left. They are open until 10 p.m. so your child can be seen after standard "banking hours" or urgent cares are closed. Their Holly office has a bit contemporary in design- they use cement benches for parents' seating in their treatment & waiting rooms, as they are easier to sanitize. But they are not necessarily as 'welcoming' to some. Personally, I appreciate knowing they clean & sanitize often. In their treatment rooms they do have standard treatment tables for the sick child. Rooms are very basic in decor. Which can get boring to look at, but bring a book to read or toy to play with. Or if you have kids like mine they will entertain you with their humor... My teens have seen multiple doctors and Nurse Practitioners in the Holly Office. Each one is very attentive, listens to you & the patient. Asks questions to get to the reason of the visit. Helps where needed and sends you on your way. The only thing that would make AHP better is if they had their own X-ray dept. If they see you for broken bones they will have to "refer you" to your choice of hospital or ER X-Ray Departments, not to sit in the ER itself. Depending on the time you are seen by them. Within a very short time, they was seen by another provider and diagnosed with a bilateral ear infection and pneumonia. What was most concerning was the response after I filed a complaint. Instead of acknowledging that something may have been missed, I was told they could have developed both conditions within hours. That explanation did not feel medically reasonable and came across as dismissive and defensive rather than focused on patient safety. This experience was not only frightening as a parent, but also eroded my trust in this clinic's clinical judgment and accountability. Based on this and prior concerns I've had here, I would strongly urge other parents to seek care elsewhere if they want a careful and thorough assessment of their child.
